《Cookies & Cuffs》XXII|"Mum and dad are fighting,"

"I said I'm sorry, how many more times do I have to apologise?" I groan, slumping on the couch.

Cayden stops pacing the corner and glares at me, "Do you know how many people I called? If you were a few more minutes late..."

I frown, "yes, I understand but, can we move along now, where is the-"

The sound of the door bursting opening causes me to flinch and duck my head, yeah I'm traumatised...

"We got here as fast as we could!" I hear smirks yell, walking into the room, the usual guys behind him, this time they brought Max again.

"Clearly not fast enough," I mutter under my breath, earning a glare of Cayden.

Max quickly walks around the guys and puts a big case on the table, while taking a seat on the floor, I decided to join him.

"I left 'find my iPhone' on so you guys should be able to track the car," I tell him, he nods, opening the case and pulling out a laptop

"Oh, Melody," I hear E call, causing me to glance up at him, he continues, "you were right about the shop, we managed to open the shutter and inside it looks like a normal shop, they didn't even bother cleaning it up,"

I nod and ask a very important question, "Did you guys at least steal the snacks?"

E rolls his eyes but Smirks, pushes past him, a bag in his hand, "of course, they did," he waves the bag around and takes a seat beside me, handing me a bag of potato chips.

"He's heading towards Jacksonville," Max announces, looking up at Cayden.

Cayden nods, "We better get going then," huh?

I stand up, "excuse me, are you feeling okay? How do you think you're going to go anywhere with that," I point at his ankle.

Cayden nudges his head at something behind me, cautiously I turn, oh no...

Max was holding up a tool in his hand, I shake my head at the two, "are you crazy?! There's no way you're going to do that, you literally reduced your time and now you wanna increase it! How is this even going to work?!"

I notice the sly smirk on Cayden's face as he stares at me,

"What?" I narrow my eyes at him,

"We just need a replacement," he shrugs.

Raising my brows at him, I ignore the guys amused faces, "and whose that? Do you have a life-size ant? What...? Ahh, you haven't watched Ant-man... Anyways, why are you looking at me like that? Wait... ¡¿Tienes que estar bromeando?! No quiero hacer esto. Estas loco? No! "

"Oh no, mum and dad are fighting," Smirks comments, "if they have a divorce, can I stay with mum?"

"Hey no, I wanna stay with mum," Nice teases, throwing a skittle at Smirks.

"Shut up you two, at this rate I don't want any of you," I snap, shooting them a glare. Oh, wait... Mum and dad??

Cayden sighs and pleads, "Melody please, you won't even get caught. we've done this before, it's easy,"

We stood there for a while, arguing about how wrong this was and as usual, I was very strong and kept my point forward.

"Can't believe me, estoy loca." I sigh, staring down at my new ankle accessory. I'm an actual fool...

"Alright we'll be back tomorrow, I promise," Cayden says standing at the door, I nod and watch him walk out, he stood by the car, glancing back at me. You promised.

Now, what do I do...?

.

.

Cayden came back 4:00 in the morning, I was asleep on the couch when I heard the door slowly creak open, causing me to jump up.

"Cayden?" I called out, standing behind the couch, waiting for him to enter the room, the sound of footsteps filling the silence.

"You're still up," Cayden points out walking into the room, hiding in the shadows, Max beside him.

"I was asleep, heard the door open," walking around the couch, I cautiously step forward, trying to get a good look at Cayden, "are you hurt?" I nervously ask.

Cayden shifts a little, the street light outside was the only thing making the room slightly lit. He walks out from the dark, there was no major injuries or blood on his face.

"Do you wanna take that off now?" Max asks instead, walking towards me with the case, glancing at Cayden, who was standing very still.

I shake my head, "it's alright, you can go wash up, we can take it off later," he nods, leaving the case on the couch and walking out the room.

I step closer towards Cayden who was just standing there, staring blankly at the side, "you're hurt," I comment, reaching forward to take a hold of his hand, his knuckles were bruised and bloody.

Sighing, I pull him along to the kitchen, he doesn't fight me and just lets himself be pulled along.

"Take a seat," I push him onto the counter stool, turning around to grab the first aid kit from under the sink.

Cayden doesn't say much or do much while I work on his knuckles, he doesn't even flinch at the antiseptic, but I could feel his stare on the side of my face.

We both decide to break the silence at the same time;

"Are you hurt anywhere else?"

"You never mentioned your brother?"

I gasp, my eyes wide as I looked up at Cayden, taking a step backwards, "what?"

Cayden's eyes narrow as he stares at me, a blank expression, "your brother,"

I feel an uneasiness in my chest, biting the inside of my lip I try my best to hide my hurt, it's been years, I've moved on. "How do you know?" I ask, my voice was low, while I moved back a little more, cleaning up the first aid kit.

"Warren. He tried to recruit your brother," Cayden says, I wasn't facing him, but I could feel his stare on the side of my face, he was trying to work out my reaction. I guess he probably doubts me again.

"Oh." Is the only thing I could say really, no matter how much I wanted to know about him, there was no point.

Instead, I decide to just tell Cayden the truth, "he left. They both did, left me when I was 13, haven't heard anything from them since. I don't know if you've noticed, but there isn't a single photo of anyone is this house, no family photo, nothing." I don't even know what he looks like anymore.

"I've noticed," there was never a homey feeling to this house and I'm sure Cayden probably realised, but it's hard making a house home on your own.

"Did you ever try looking for them?" Cayden asks,

I nod, "All the time, but then I figured they probably never wanted to be found. My dad came back from military and he tried as well but he couldn't, then he left, went back to his job and yeah, I guess," I take a deep breath, "things just moved on from there."

"You were alone?" All the time.

I shake my head, "had Aunt Jemma, even though at that time she could hardly look after herself," being 24 and divorced really took a toll on her and then having a troublesome 13 years old dumped on her, really added the cherry on top.

"I'm sorry," Cayden says.

I fiddled with the first aid kit zipper while responding, "Not your fault. Figured you probably have some doubts, so best to just tell you the truth,"

"Melody," there's a pause, causing me to look up and meet Cayden's eyes, they weren't as blank anymore, he looked understanding, "I trust you."

I stared at him for a few seconds before nodding, "thank you," I trust you too.

Cayden looks down at the counter, his hands reaching up to grab mine, he doesn't touch them though they hover before he drops it besides mines, just slightly touching the tip of my fingers with his.

He takes a deep breath after a long pause, he says, "He's my dad,"

What? Who now?

I stare at him confused, "huh? Who?"

He Jaw clenches before responding back, "Warren,"

A gasp escaped me as I stood there shocked, "that's-that's crazy. Did he tell you?" No wonder he looked wrecked.

He nods, glaring down at the counter, "he told me before, I had a whole year to think about what he actually meant, but today he made it clear what he meant,"

Hesitantly I take a few steps towards him, "are you okay?"

There's a pause before he says, "I don't know." This is the first time I had heard him sound so low and lost.

My hands itch to just reach forward and hold him, but I wasn't sure. Taking a deep breath, I push my doubts aside and step closer, wrapping my arms around him, while standing between his legs. Cayden freezes up at the sudden contact, before slowly relaxing against me.

"You're going to be okay," I whisper, we both are. I hold onto him tightly, his breath fanning against my neck. Hopefully, he can't hear my crazy heartbeat.

"Melody," He calls, I hum in response, he continues, "I need to tell you something,"

I pull away a little, "What?"

He grimaces, his face going a little pale, "I think I was stabbed,"

"CAYDEN, ¡Que demonios!"
