《Strictly Professional ✔️》Chapter 13

You know you're the best when you finish a party a day prior to the due date.

You're probably asking what I have been doing for the past two days, you know other than being there for a mourning Kate.

Since the hotel wasn't responsible for decorating the venue, I had to alternate my routine to consist of going to work, rushing to the mall, buying anything purple or blue

(with Mr. Reid's money of course), going to the venue, beg the staff to help, organize with them and direct them until around 12 am and then finally go home.

Now let me rant about my health, I'm not only physically exhausted but mentally too, Mr. Reid is not going easy on me with work, just when I think I'm done, I see another list in front of my face.

I really wonder how much work he has to do, I'm sure he's dumping it all on me.

Stupid, you saw how much work he has to do when you cleaned his office remember?

Conscious, I want to blame someone else please, don't make me feel guilty.

Anyway let's skip to the present, I'm currently sitting in Mr. Reid's limo with him beside me.

As the party is tomorrow, I'm taking him to go see the venue and hear what he thinks of it and I am nervous as hell.

The car stopped and my heart started beating rapidly, afraid of what he'll think, because I am in no mood to get fired and no mood to do everything all over again.

He is an arrogant man after all.

The driver opened the door and we both got out, I thanked him and Mr. Reid being the man he is just walked in without giving him a glance.

I rolled my eyes and followed him in.

When the staff saw me, they quickly recognized me and their eyes widened when they laid eyes on Mr. Reid.

I quickly nod my head and they got the message that I'm here to see the venue.

When they opened the doors, I was proud to see the work I had spent so much time on come to life.

It was difficult at first, I don't remember studying fabric in college because I wasn't planning on it.

But after multiple fabric stores and help from Nina, perks of having a sister that's studying design.

Yup I was able to accomplish a job I had not signed up for.

I quickly focused my eyes on

Mr. Reid to see if I can get a reaction from him.

And guess what? Nothing!

"Sir?"

"I don't like the colors"

I literally chocked on air, did he really just say he didn't like the colors?

"Well I did ask for your opinion Mr. Reid and you told me to do as I like" I said after regaining my breath.

"I had no idea you had such poor taste, otherwise I wouldn't have said anything"

Breath in Julie.

"And what do you suggest I do sir?" I gritted out.

"Change the color scheme" he said in a cold tone sensing my disrespect.

"Yes sir" I say with a sickeningly sweet smile, as though working, shopping and putting everything together is done with the snap of my fingers.

With nothing else to say he turned around and started walking out, the hotel staff gave me sympathetic looks and I just ignored them.

"Sir, can I have the day off as the event is tomorrow?"

"No, you've been asking for those a lot lately, getting used to the laziness I see Ms. Downs"

"But I need to do the preparations! Today is Thursday!"

"I'm paying you to be my personal assistant Ms. Downs, not my personal designer, just hire an event planner, you wasted amounts of money on decorations when it could've been spent hiring a professional"

"For your information Mr. Reid, this wasn't even half the price of hiring a 'professional' as you state"

"In any case it's not my problem, as long as you get the job done and it looks decent enough to not embarrass me in front of people and the media, do as you like"

You say 'do as you like' then you tell me I have poor taste!

Make up your damn mind already!

"Then choose between gold and silver" I told him pulling out two pieces of fabric out of my bag.

"What?"

"Just tell me which you prefer?"

"Gold"

"Then that's all I need to know"

We didn't say another word as I was busy calculating how long all of this will actually take.

I have to redo the work of the last two days and not to mention go on my knees and beg to the staff to help me agin and work until even later into the night.

Then go check everything again tomorrow to make sure nothing is out of order and everything is ready, from the waiters to the appetizers.

God, please let me survive until the end of the week.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

Mr. Reid was kind enough to drop me off at home since it was on our way, he's been excessively generous and merciful lately.

I walked in and instead of frowning about the fact that I have to do extra work, I grin like a idiot.

I knew he'd disapprove of something so I have backup!

Screw you Derick Reid!

I did a victory dance and rushed to catch a cab.

When I went shopping the first time, I had asked the store clerks to keep some fabric and decor just in case I came back.

My backup colors are gold and white, I had also chosen maroon to go with the silver, just in case he picked that one.

I paid the cab and went back to each of the stores I had previously went to.

I went to the fabric store and asked them if they still had the fabrics I had told them to put aside, they replied yes and showed them to me.

After exiting the fabric store with three bags of fabric, one containing sheer fabric, another with silk fabric and another with polyester chiffon.

I had to actually google 'Types of decorating fabric' the confusion was real, I had to go as far as making a face time call with Nina so she can tell me the difference between 'tulle fabric' and 'sheer fabric'.

I looked at my watch to see that it was 6 PM, I sighed deeply and made my way to the florist, the artificial kind.

Two hours later...

One good thing that came out of these two hours were these really cute white and gold paper lamps that I thought will look amazing just dotted around the venue.

Now on to the bad things that came out of these two hours, I had taken the fabric to the same tailors I had gone to the other time and gave them the same measurements for the chairs and tables.

They told me to come back tomorrow as they were busy making a wedding dress, aren't you supposed to take those things to a boutique?!

So I had to take it to a different tailor which took me ages to find.

I'm starting to panic as it is almost 9 PM and I'm tired and hungry.

But I can't afford to take a break, I still have to do a few more things.

My biggest worry is that I need to think about what to do with the fabric considering they told me they'd call when it's ready.

Even if it is done I don't know if I'll be able to pick it up and then go to the venue to arrange it again on time before the event.

Mr. Reid will probably make me work the full day and I don't think I'll even have time to get ready, the worst part is that it's mandatory, I have to be at Mr. Reid's beck and call at 8 PM.

Yay me!

I breathed in and closed my eyes to calm down a little and get ahold of my mind.

Let's start with the easy stuff Julie, you can do this.

I'll start off by calling the venue to tell them to change the bows on the champagne glasses since I asked them to just mix in the colors purple and blue.

They agreed saying it's good I told them that before they started, I then put a reminder to come back to my new found tailor in three more hours just before midnight so I can check the progress on the fabric and hopefully, it's finished.

Atta girl! Think positive Julie!

Next I need to carry all of this meaningless junk into a cab, then drop them and myself off at the venue.

After the anxious taxi ride, I walked into the hotel and some of the staff members helped me carry them inside.

I thanked them and I looked at the wasted decorations and how it'll take at least an hour to take them down.

Only one thing can get me through this evening and that's music!

I plugged in my headphones and started listening to Paramore's new song 'Fake Happy'.

I started on taking the decorations off the table in a beat and putting them on the floor until I'm able to find a box or something else to put it in.

I kept swinging my hips and ripping off fabric left, right and center.

I was leaping backwards and forwards on the dance floor, erasing any evidence of my hard work from existence...

So much for 'proud to see my work come to life' am I right?

After a few minutes of swapping fabrics to the ready made new ones and changing the many artificial flowers on the stands, one of the staff members I had come to know as Kim started helping me clean up and a few of the others also joined in.

I felt bad for making them do more work than they were supposed to but they all said it's no big deal.

I told them to do a few more things and in no time the venue contained only the colors white and gold.

I even got to use those really cute paper lanterns!

To celebrate we ordered noodles as I was going to die of starvation more than lack of sleep.

Feeling satisfied, I started packing up all the other unwanted stuff and decided to give them as a gift to my sister as thank you for helping me pick them.

The girl is designing clothes, you never know when you need purple sheer fabric.

My timer rang and I looked at the time, my eyes widened, wow time sure does go by fast.

I should go check on the fabric, maybe luck is on my side today and they'll tell me they were able to finish early and were quickly able to finish the daisy white silk table cloth and and the golden polyester chiffon that I was planning on decorating the chairs with.

I thanked everyone and said one day (after getting my paycheck) I'll take them out as a token of my gratitude and they all smiled.

When I got out of the hotel, the cold air hit my burning face and I breathed in the cold New York air as I saw a cab and hailed it.

The cabbie was suspicious of why I would go to a mall so late in the. night and I answered with a simple "desperate" and that shut him up.

I went into the store it was around 11:53 and they were just about closing when I stopped them.

They looked at me annoyed as they wanted to just go home and rest already but don't you think I want to do the same?!

The head tailor came out with two bags and shoved them into my hand just telling me to go.

Feeling extremely ecstatic and lucky I thanked them and rushed back home.

Tomorrow, right after I get off work, I'll go ahead and quickly finish everything off in the venue and I'll maybe even have time to dress up.

I can't wait for this nightmare to be over already!
