《Strictly Professional ✔️》Chapter 10

We came back to the hotel and when I opened the bedroom door I collapsed on to the bed.
I recalled the conversation I had with my brother and I didn't expect it to be this civil, I imagined it to go horrible and we'd end up hating each other.
But it was the exact opposite, all he wanted was my forgiveness.
The second I closed my eyes my phone started to ring, I groaned pulling my phone out of my jackets pocket.
My eyes widened and I gulped the ID on the phone read...
Mamá...
I'm so dead!
"Hey mom!"
"You stupid excuse for a daughter!"
"Ma-"
"I call you twice expecting my precious Juliana's voice to be on the other line, but no! of course you had more important things to do than speak to your old and worried mother, I had to call Katrina to make sure you weren't killed!"
"Mom, calm down, breathe in, you're over exaggerating, I'm sorry, I should've called you and told you I was going to Chicago"
I got my over emotional and anger issues from my mom, if you couldn't tell.
She sighed.
"How's Chicago?"
"Um, eventful?"
"Why am I sensing that was a question?"
"Because... I'm working on a business case" I'm not completely lying right?
"You're not a lawyer or a detective! Why in the world are you working on a case?!"
"Mamá, remember your health" I huffed.
"I'm not that old" she hissed.
I heard a knock on the door.
"Ms. Downs" came Mr. Reid's voice.
"Give me a sec" I yelled back.
"Is that a man's voice I hear? I swear, if I find out you didn't answer my call because of a man, I'll not only kill you but also that man!"
"Mamá, please he's my boss, don't quickly go ahead and assume things"
"Whatever, go see what your oh so important boss wants from you"
"Oh mom, please again I'm sorry, but you should know I'll always love you, so stop worrying, I won't leave you"
"Okay, okay, I forgive you, love you too"
"Adiós mamá" I chuckled
"Adiós"
I hanged up and made my way towards the door, Mr. Reid was standing there looking annoyed.
"What took you so long?"
"Sorry I just had to take the call"
"It's fine"
"So what is it Mr. Reid?"
"I never got to tell you in the car because of our little 'debate' I had just got off the phone with Peter"
"That reminds me, I had checked your schedule last night sir and it didn't say anything about a meeting, so where were you?"
"Why did you check if I had any meetings or not? I thought I gave you the day off?"
I blushed looking down.
"It's my job as your assistant sir, I do that even on weekends, to make sure you are on time and I haven't made any mistakes"

"Alright, back to your question, I had gone to meet with my lawyer"
Not even a freaking thank you! Okay!
"What did he say?" I gritted out.
"I told him to get the work done as soon as possible, as soon as in taking him to court and hopefully winning the case, the attorney is already doing his job by helping me file a civil rights suit against Grant"
I nodded this is slowly unfolding and hopefully we'll be able to quickly go back to New York and not only will I be able to settle my life professionally but personally too.
Getting my family back together is my main priority after getting things done in Chicago.
I was dragged out of my blissful thoughts by Mr. Reid's phone.
"Hello" ugh I really hate his stern business tone.
Now that I mention it he's never used that tone with me, stupid Julie, it's because you work for him, he knows he's going to get nowhere without his trusty assistant...
My self esteem just went down the drain... sigh.
"Ms. Downs, I need you to take notes of this conversation"
"Yes, sir"
I quickly grabbed the very conveniently placed paper and pen off the counter and got into a writing stance.
"Mr. Reid, you know how you said you wanted a place in court as soon as possible and i said that needs a lot of work? well I was able to get you one tomorrow morning, with the many sources I had might I add"
Full of yourself much? I scoffed.
"Yes, what time is it?"
"10:30 am"
"I'll be there thirty minutes earlier and I expect the same from you, do you understand?"
"Yes, sir"
"Percy, I'd like your opinion on something" he grunted in response.
"Do you think we'll win the case?"
"What do you think Mr. Reid?"
"From the information we were able to gather against Grant and two witnesses to defend against the case, I'll say we have a 98% chance of winning the case"
"What about the remaining 2%?"
"That is only possible if Grant somehow manages to cheat his way into the judge's heart"
I snorted, Mr. Reid really does have a sense of humor.
"I mean, I guess"
"You guess?" He said in a dark tone.
"You have to be sure of every possibility, people play dirty"
Oh he was being serious, so much for having absence of humor.
"Yes, sorry s-sir I'll take that into account"
Wow he can even scare a guy through the phone, who would've thought.
"Goodbye Mr. Cross"
"Goodbye sir"
He cut the call and turned to me.
"Did you get everything?"
"Yes sir"
"Then Ms. Downs you're free to do whatever you want"
"Thank you sir, but would you mind lending me your car?"

He raised an eyebrow.
"And why should I do that
Ms. Downs?"
"Because I hate using public transport to go places"
"Where are you even going?"
"Wherever the wind takes me
Mr. Reid"
"Aren't you hilarious Ms. Downs?"
"I've been told that by multiple people Mr. Reid" I smirked.
"Just take the car and get out of my sight"
Alright, this guy has more mood swings than a pregnant woman.
I still grinned and grabbed his keys walking out, I've been here for two days and I never got the chance to just walk around and see places.
I looked up a mall to go to and made my way there.
Twenty minutes later I was at the mall and looking at the random shops.
I'm not the type to crazy for clothes and stuff but I do have one thing I'm stupidly obsessed with...
Bags!
I swear I have so many I think I have a mental illness.
I walked into the first 'clothes' store I saw and looked at the cardigan section as I needed a navy one for work.
"Oh my god, that red jacket looks so cute! Where did you get it?!"
A girl around my age said.
She had beautiful blonde hair and cute brown eyes.
"Sorry I'm not really from around here" I smiled politely at her.
"It's fine, thanks by the way, I'm Lindsey"
"Juliana but you can call me Julie"
"Well Julie, did you come here by yourself?"
I gave her a weird look but shrugged it off.
"Yeah I did"
"You should totally hang out with me today! I came here with my hubby but he said he had work to do" she pouted.
"That'll be nice, I am feeling kinda lonely"
"Same, so you're going to help me get something for a newborn"
she grinned.
"You're pregnant?"
"Pft, Yeah right, do I look pregnant to you?" She raised an eyebrow.
"I'm sorry I didn't mean it like that"
"You calling me fat, ouch and I thought we had something"
"I'm so-"
"Stop apologizing already! Not a big deal"
I sighed in relief, I hate offending people.
We walked into the baby shop and in an instant my eyes hit the cutest yellow onesie ever.
Before I could pick it up I asked
"Is it a boy or a girl?"
"It's a boy, my cousin is expecting in a month" she smiled.
"Congrats"
"Thank you, if you don't mind me asking where are you from?"
"New York"
"No.Way. I'm from New York too!"
I laughed and we continued to pick out cute tiny clothes for newborns.
We left the baby shop and continued going through other stores and buying the things that caught our eye.
After a long while of trying on clothes and me buying two luscious bags, we got hungry and went to buy a snack.
We bought ice cream and were sitting on a bench, talking.
"So how long have you been married?"
"Almost a year" she smiled looking down.
"So you're still considered a newlywed" I smirked.
She blushed and a guy who I'm assuming is her husband wrapped his arms around her, startling her.
"Hello gorgeous"
"Hey"
"Who's this" he gestured towards me.
"Oh yeah! Kane! Come meet Julie, she's also from New York!"
Kane chuckled and put his hand out for a shake, I shook his hand and smiled politely.
"Thanks for taking care of her for me"
"No problem, she's been great company"
"Well I better get going, wait give me your number"
We exchanged numbers and I noticed I've been doing that a lot lately but whatever the more contacts the more I look like I've got friends...
Now I just feel plain lonely!
I got back to Mr. Reid's car and got into the passenger seat, I opened the window as there was a cool breeze outside.
I was driving and I saw a small park, it was almost sunset and I can't pass off an opportunity for a breath of fresh air.
I parked the car and got out, I went down different paths looking for a good angle to take a photo in.
I've always loved photography and thanks to Mr. Reid's generous gift, my phone now has a high quality camera.
I finally found the perfect place to take photo, it had three things I loved having in my photos.
People, there was a mother crouching on the ground tying her sons shoelace, nature, they were surrounded by beautiful trees and flowers and last but not least the perfect amount of sunlight from a sunset.
Not too much that it can ruin the photo and not to less to the point of making it look like any other photo.
I smiled as the picture looked amazing, my smile slowly faded as I wondered if I can someday do that too.
I suddenly felt envy fill my heart as I wanted something like that.
I felt a hand on my shoulder and saw the woman smiling at me.
"You'll have something like that too, someday"
"How do you know?"
I asked her she was perfect to be a mom, the motherly smile she gave me warmed my heart.
She looked at her son with so much love and turned to me.
"If you want something so badly, you'll eventually get it"
I thanked her and walked back to the car, when I reached the hotel the sky had turned a purple color.
I walked in to the suite (Mr. Reid gave me a key) and Mr. Reid wasn't around so I just went back into the bedroom and changed.
I ended up lazing in the living room watching TV until Mr. Reid came in around 10 PM.
As usual he ordered me around saying that tomorrow we have to wake up early so he 'advised' me to go to sleep.
Couldn't he just ask politely?
