《A Promise To The Beloved (Completed)》36. Another Storm...

As the driver pulled the car through the morning streets of Boston Lilly sat at the back all smiley and excited. Finally, after so many days she was going to see him, hear him. She smiled but just then she realised one thing. She hadn't even thought of what exactly she would say to him.
'Fight him and ask why he had left you alone for so many days. He neither called nor messaged and left you to worry in his golden castle, her brain suggested.
'No. When you meet him hug him tightly and make him promise that he would never leave you like that again, her heart interrupted.
"Stop near the cafe, please," Lilly asked the driver and he obliged.
"Ashton has a meeting so I will wait in the cafe here." She lied about the meeting and said, "So you may park the car somewhere and wait. I would give you a call when I'd need you." she smiled as she got out of the car.
"Alright, Mrs King." the driver nodded and drove away.
Five minutes later, Lilly found herself a chair in the cafe just some metres down Ashton's office. Placing the order she waited for her latté while searching her mind for what all available options were there for her to speak. Contemplating whether to get mad at him or hug him tightly.
"Lilly."
A very familiar voice interrupted her thoughts and turning her head she saw one person she wanted to see the least, especially at this moment. Elsie.
Elsie walked to Lilly's table and took the chair opposite her. Lilly still hadn't forgotten Elsie's behaviour and her accusations of Ashton.
Angrily, she was about to get up and leave but then Elsie placed her hand on top of Lilly's stopping her from leaving.
"Please, Lilly."
Not wanting to cause a scene in front of Ashton's office Lilly swallowed the boiling anger as she hissed, "What do you want, Elsie?"
" I have no ill will towards you, Lilly. I just -"
"Look, Elsie, if you are going to say something against Ashton then I am not interested in any of your talks."
"No, Lilly. I am here just to show you something."
" I am not interested." Lilly was about to get up and leave but Elsie's next words made her stop.
" Ashton hasn't come home for almost a week. Right?"
Lilly frowned as she looked at the old woman in front of her. Was she keeping an eye on them, she worried but then gaining her composure she said," And what does that has to do with you?'

"Nothing with me but it should matter to you," Elsie said looking confident of her words.
"And what is that supposed to mean?" Lilly asked raising a brow.
Elsie took out her phone and slid it in front of Lilly for her to see.
"You need to rethink some of your decisions. Especially when Ashton already has someone by his side."
Elsie's words and the picture on the phone caught Lilly's attention. It was a picture of Ashton and there was another woman by his side. Dressed in a green dress with a deep neck in front it was looking as if the dress was barely able to hold her bosom in and she was pressing those breasts against Ashton's biceps.
It looked like a picture taken at a party but all Lilly could see was the lust in that woman's eyes who was clinging to her husband like a vine. The blood boiled in her veins at this.
"This is Ashton's ex or maybe his present. Who knows?" Lilly looked at Elsie as she continued. "Her name is Mila. From the photo, you can see and feel the attraction between them. Even though he is married to you but he still goes and sees her or else why do you think he was absent for a week?"
"Why do you think I will believe your words?" Lilly challenged.
"Lilly, look at the picture again."
" I don't need your detectives to tail on my husband," Lilly said putting on a mask of confidence while inwardly her emotions were on a rampage. She wasn't going to let this woman have her peace of mind.
"Lilly-"
"Elsie, if I found your underlings anywhere near my house then I will call the cops. Stay away from my husband and my child."
The picture which Elsie showed her just now seem to be from some months ago, Lilly noted because the Ashton in the picture had clean shaved while the Ashton now had grown a light beard. Lilly was trying her best to rationalize the situation.
But what if he just clean shaved again and after glimmering and glamming himself he went to a party with that woman companion of his, doubts began to surface.
No, she didn't want to believe it.
"I will not doubt my husband because of your words," she said firmly looking straight into Elsie's eyes.
Even though she was breaking from inside with doubts, curiosity, helplessness and jealousy but she didn't show any signs of those emotions on her face. She didn't want this woman to feel victorious.

''But Lilly, he doesn't deserve you," Elsie said again as she saw Lilly turning around ready to leave.
"Whether he deserves me or not it's up to me to decide that. You are no one to interrupt in our matters. You lost all your rights to preach right and wrong when you raised your hand on a little boy and accused him of his mother's suicide."
Elsie was caught by surprise and that was evident in her eyes.
"N- no, Lilly. You misunderstood. I just-"
"I've understood everything correctly." Lilly interrupted. "I don't want a scene here and let's never meet again."
Saying this Lilly placed the bill on the table for a latté she didn't even touch and with one final warning glance to Elsie, she left the cafe.
Crossing the road she walked up the street and was now standing in front of Ashton's office. She needed to talk. She needed to solve this confusion. She needed to assure her heart and brain that her husband wasn't cheating on her. He would never do anything like that.
Taking one deep breath she walked into the building. She had never been to his office before so she stopped at the reception because she didn't even know which floor he worked on.
"Hello," Lilly greeted the receptionist. "I would like to meet Mr Ashton king."
"Do you have an appointment?"
"Er... no I don't have an appointment. But I'm his-"
"I'm sorry but he is busy right now with his girlfriend." the receptionist dismissed her with a professional smile and went back to her work.
She didn't even notice a Lilly who was standing there paled and rooted to the spot as the words of receptionist drilled in her head.
"With his girlfriend?" Lilly whispered the words in disbelief. No, there is something wrong. Lilly's heart denied those words.
Just then she saw John, Ashton's secretary coming out of the lift. She walked up to him and asked, "Which floor does Aston work on?"
" 23rd floor," John replied as if by reflex as his eyes still focused on the scrolling contents of the phone. Before he could realise what he had done Lilly had already entered the elevator and was on her way up.
John frowned at Lilly's sudden arrival. Ashton had spent the entire week in the office. He knew something was wrong with his boss but he just couldn't understand his glares. He had guessed that something must have gone wrong between the couple and his boss's ego was so big that John knew he would never apologize to his wife. This past week had been a hell ride for everyone in the office because of Ashton's foul mood but now seeing Lilly here in the office John smiled with relief at the possibility that everything was going to be solved soon and maybe he too would get a much-needed break from Ashton's endless row of meetings and orders.
As he walked to the reception he asked the frowning receptionist, "What happened?"
"Why did you tell her Mr King's floor number? She didn't even have an appointment."
"She doesn't need an appointment." John smiled but was completely ignored and left shocked at the receptionist's later words.
"Mr King is with his girlfriend right now and she is going to interrupt."
"No, you misunderstood." John tried to correct her.
"The woman who went in the elevator just now is his wife."
"No. The woman who came before her is Mr king's girlfriend. She even showed me a picture of them together and said that they are going to marry." The receptionist argued.
As the secretary and receptionist were busy arguing as to who Ashton was with Lilly got out of the elevator and walked straight to Ashton's office.
Placing her hand on the door handle she assured herself once again that her husband may be an idiot who behaves like a child and ignore conversations instead of solving the problems nicely but he wasn't a cheater. She smiled at the thought and pushed the door open only for her steps to come to a sudden halt. Her smile disappeared from her face as she felt life being sucked out of her at what she was seeing.
A woman wearing a tight bodycon dress was hovering onto her husband. Her hands rested on his chest while he was leaning back in his chair looking up at her. A posture that looked so close and intimate as if they were about to kiss and lose in each other's embrace. She was the same woman whose picture Elsie had shown just a few minutes ago.
Whatever blood of Lilly was left in her body evaporated at that sight. It felt as if someone had pulled the rug from beneath her feet and now she was falling into an endless pit. She bit hard on her lip so as not to let that sob escape her mouth but that attempt caught the attention of the two on the other side of the table and Ashton looked at her as his eyes hers.
"Lilly?"
