《Living with the Player》Chapter 26

"So you're going to the dance with Theo?" a voice asks, judging me.

I turn around with a sigh. "Yeah, I am," I answer.

Brian stares at me, betrayed. "We always talked about going to that dance together."

I roll my eyes. "Leave me alone. I don't wanna talk to you."

"I'll end things with Kenzie!" he exclaims as I start to pack up my bag faster. "Things with her and I aren't good anyway. We're practically broken up!"

"Do you hear yourself right now?" I ask, slamming my locker shut. Is this how he was throwing himself at girls when we were together? "You're so pathetic. I don't give a fuck if you're with her or not. We're done. We've been done."

He steps closer to me, eyes solemn. "Jennie, losing you was the biggest mistake I've ever made. I'm so sorry. I fucked up."

This is it. This is what I wanted, isn't it? For him to feel like shit and regret cheating on me. Yet, the moment is here now and I couldn't care less.

"Get out of my face," I say, stone cold.

"Come on, Jennie. I miss you. Can we at least talk about this?" he begs, reaching for my hands.

"Don't fucking touch me. I swear, you have five seconds to walk away before I start getting really mad," I say. I'm pissed. As much of a bitch as Kenzie is, I can't help but feel bad for her. What is this shit show?

He drops his hand, his face turning angry when he realizes that I'm dead serious about not taking him back. "He just wants you because of the fight. Because you suddenly got clout and dress nice. I've always been there for you, Jennie."

My jaw tightens. Honestly, I've been suspicious of that, too. How Theo always wants us seen in public, how he urges me to fight Kenzie again. But this isn't about him right now.

"You've never been there for me. And you know what?" I look straight into his eyes. Those brown eyes that used to make me melt. Now, they're dull. "I don't need you to be there for me. I have myself."

"You're gonna regret this. He thinks you're the shit now but I know the real you. You can't fight. That haircut, your popularity, that's all fake. And when they see that, they won't want you anymore. Especially not Nico Accardi."

I take a breath, clenching my fists before letting them go.

"Go fuck yourself," I say. I don't bother looking back as I walk out the door.
