How did she do it? How was she able to survive my deadliest of blows? I have immense power. I have the capability to destroy half the world in just a blink but she survived it, how?

How could a mortal like her survive my power? I must find out. I head towards the pack she belongs to. After reaching the Alpha's house, I climb into her room through the window to find it empty but as soon as I step inside, this particular scent hits my nose that makes my wolf lose control.

He's pacing impatiently inside me to find out the source of this scent. It excites him, it calms him. It's making him lose control. He wants to take over me and follow the scent to find out its source. I have come to this room before as well, but I didn't find this scent then.

I try to fill my lungs to the brim with it, it's so addicting. I can't help myself. I want more of it. If I get the source of this scent then I am going to keep it. Listening to my wolf, I follow it outside the room and downstairs. This scent leads me outside the house through the front door and thence to the pack house.

As I step towards the pack house, the wind changes its course, flowing from the direction of the forest. A stronger trail of the addictive scent reaches my nose from the forest. Without thinking, I turn on my heels and start marching towards the forest. The scent is fresh here, undisturbed and intense.

My wolf is getting more impatient at me and urging me to walk fast. He cannot wait to find the source of this scent. He's already craving it so badly and a major part of me is craving for it as well. I want to know what on this mortal realm has the power to affect me this way.

As I step deeper into the forest, several sounds of grunt and growl float in the air and a faint light is escaping from between the trees. Fire. I can tell it from standing here that its fire, wildfire but it's very unlikely and impossible for the trees here to catch fire due to the weather and temperature until and unless someone lit it.

The scent leads me to the fire. As I near it, the fire starts to grow massive, its flames reaching higher than the trees. It looks more like fire from hell. Regal and destructive, turning everything to ashes that ever dare come its way.

Howls and painful cries now fill the air along with the crackling of the flames. I am standing in the midst of destruction. Something catches my eyes. A figure wrapped in fire flames running in zig-zag paths as it cries out in pain. I zero my eyes at it and instantly recognize the creature.

Goatmen, the servants of Ishtar but what are they doing here? I feel my chest rumble with a growl thinking about that goddess of fertility. She pairs my wolves. The matchmaker or whatever the other gods like to call her. I don't like her a bit, in fact, I loathe her. We're enemies.

I step in the fire that fails to affect me and follow the scent that leads me into it. Many burned goatmen are lying on the snow, turned into ashes. I step on the ashes, my nose held high in the air, tailing the scent that calls to the beast inside me. I'll stop only when I get to its source.

Finally, I reach the epicenter of this massive fire where the intensity of the flames is more than destructive. What I see next, knocks the breath out of me.

Surrounded by the flames, she lies on the ground, her midnight black hair spewed on the melting snow. Her eyes are closed and besides her lay a huge executioner's sword. My insides light up with intense desire and passion.

'Mate.'

In the next moment, I am pulling her in my arms. Sparks explode all over my skin wherever her skin makes contact with mine. I am overcome with such feelings and want that I never knew existed in me. My beast is fighting for control. He wants to have her and take her away to our place and keep her forever. She is ours.

My insides are blazing with a fire that is more intense than the fire around us.

Why?

As I look at her innocent face, I can't help but think of the reason she has been given to me. How? I was cursed to I not have a mate. It was a result of one of my rivalries with Ishtar and other gods. Ishtar cursed me to never pair me with a she-wolf and now when she did, of all, she chose her for me. Why?

I don't know what to do.

My beast wants to keep her and according to my instincts, so do I but why? Why is she given to me? Is she a blessing or another curse?

Pondering over the past events, now, I understand how she survived my wrath. She's immune to me. My wolf could never bring itself to hurt her. Her wolf must have matured recently because earlier my wolf didn't recognize her but now he does. She is our mate and we want to have her.

She is our ultimate destiny.

Looking at the executioner's swords and the burned goatmen, the realization dawns upon me. Ishtar sent them to kill her!

She wanted to kill her so that she could get to me. A growl rumbles my chest thinking about her plan.

Suddenly, black smoke appears in front of me and out of it, steps out the three goddesses of Fate (Moirai), namely- Klotho (Clotho), Lakhaesis (Lachaesis) and Atropos.

Klotho is 'The Spinner' who spun the tread of life. Whilst Lakhaesis was said to be the 'Appointer of lots.' She measured the threads and decided the length when one was going to die. And Atropos was 'she who cannot be turned'. She severed the threads, ending the life.

My insides light up with rage realizing why they're here. All these gods are trying to get back at me by taking my mate away. First, they cursed me so that I couldn't have a mate and when that wasn't enough, they decided to give me one and then take her away from me.

Losing a mate is really painful and they know that and hence they gave me a mortal being that'll die in some years or could be easily killed and taken away from me.

I won't let them take her away from me. She is mine and I am keeping her.

"Hand her over to us!" Atropos bellows at me. At her words, my wolf growls and I pull my mate closer in my arms. Handing my she-wolf to them would be the last thing I'd do.

"She stays with me." I declare, my tone making it clear that they won't get to go anywhere near what's mine. They'll have to fight me to get their hands on my mate.

"Look, her thread has been severed already and she has lived the whole length of her thread." Lakhaesis steps forward and explains making me growl at them.

"Present me her thread," I growl.

"No!" Klotho, who was silent all this time, bellows.

"Why? Are you scared that I might uncover one of your scandals?"

"This is not a scandal!" Bellows Lakhaesis.

"She stays with me!"

"It was decided that she will die-"Atropos' voice is cut with a thunder splitting the sky in half. An uneasy air fills the environment. Atropos' lips curls into a smirk.

"The grim reaper is here." She declares and a thundering growl escapes my chest. I won't let them take her away from me, not now when I have got her. She'll stay with me and be my queen.

"I will take this to Zeus."

"Her demise was decided. We will get her either way." Lakhaesis said shrugging. I growl at them because she is right. If I take the matter to Zeus then they'll win which is the last thing I want. Zeus is upset with me currently and I won't be surprised if he decides to take my mate away and give her to them.

I look at my mate in my arms. Her eyes are closed and life is slowly draining away from her body. I won't let her die. She is mine and she'll live to be my queen and rule by my side. I wanted a mate all this time and now, when I've got one, I am not going to let go of her soon.

"She is a wolf born," I state.

"Yes we know that." Atropos says.

"And hence she belongs to my Kingdome and I get to have a say in this decision."

"You bastard!" Atropos bellows.

"You are attached to this mortal, aren't you?" Klotho asks grimly. Her words hit me like a wrecking ball. Yes, I am attached to her because she is the driving force of my existence, my other half. Made only for me. There's no way I can deny the pull I feel towards her already but all my feelings towards her is a crime. My attachment to her is a crime.

It is considered to be a crime when gods attach themselves with mortals. It is the biggest of crimes and right now, I've committed just that. I've meddled with a mortal's life and now my wolf has claimed her to be ours.

"I think he is attached to her. Look at this beauty. Which man wouldn't want to keep her for himself? After all, ruling alone for such a long time he must be in search of a queen." Atropos muses.

Yes, I want her. I will keep her. She'll be my crown queen and rule beside me.

"She's mine!"

"That doesn't matter! Hand her over!" Atropos demands.

"Her fate is already decided!" Klotho adds.

"This time I decide her fate." With this, I summon my Holy Veil, woven by Klotho herself and gifted to me by the moon goddess when I was crowned as the king of wolf borne. I pull out the longest thread out of it the silky cloth.

"Now, she's immortal," I say while tying the ends of the thread, forming a circle before the ground shakes with a sky shattering thunder.

I have committed yet another crime.
