《Save My Hope》45 | Birthday

Phoebe
Noah left the apartment, and my sisters are currently staring at me.
"You lost your virginity?" I ask McKenna, and she instantly looks away from me.
"Kin, did you?" I ask, and she shakes her head.
"To be honest, Pheebs. I'm uh- I'm into girls." Kinley says, biting her bottom lip. I nod my head, sitting next to her.
"Does Mom or Dad know?" I ask, and she shakes her head. "Only me and Ken know?" And she nods her head.
"I- I wanted to tell you sooner but-"
"Kinley, it's perfectly okay. You can love whoever or whatever you want. I support you. And Kenna, did you protection at least?" Kenna nods her head, making me feel relieved. "Okay. That's all I need to know."
"And are you protected?" Kenna asks, and I nod my head.
"But enough about this, let's discuss your birthday's. What do you girls wanna do?" I smile, grabbing their hands.
They look at each other and then at me, "We want to go clubbing." They say in unison.
"Clubbing? Are you serious?" I ask, in shock.
"Yes." They both say, "We know how you feel about it, and you don't have to go-" Kinley says, but I interrupt her.
"Let's do it," I say, making them give me a confused look.
"Wait- are you serious? There will be people with cameras there and everything." Kenna says, making me instantly regret agreeing to this. But I decided I need to suck this up and deal with this.
"I'm serious." I nod my head, making them smile and get excited.
"Yay! Oh- I'm so excited!" Ken jumps up from the table, clapping. I smile at her excitement, but I quickly tell her that I can't drink. "Wait. Why?" She stops jumping, looking at Kinley then at me.
"Um- I just can't," I say, unsure what to say. I can't tell them the truth, but I don't know how to lie.
"You can just have some drinks; it won't kill you." Kenna chuckles, and I stand up and pick up their empty plates. I washed all of our dishes and put them away.
I know the girls want to go clubbing, but right now, I just want to buy them presents, a cake and maybe I should bring Noah some lunch... Yeah, that would be nice.
Kinley is on the computer, doing homework and Kenna is on the phone with Mom.
"Mom says she needs to talk to you," Kenna says, trying to hand me the phone. I shake my head, trying to push away the telephone, but she practically tosses it in my hand. I give her a mean look, sighing and answering the phone.
"Phoebe, you haven't talked to me since you left the hospital with that man. Are you okay? The girls say that you are dating him and that he's a Surgeon."
"Mom, I'm okay." I answer, "His name is Noah, and I like him." I smile, making her chuckle.
"Oh, my sweet girl." My Mom laughs, "I don't think this is the right man for you. You cant like a surgeon their schedules are hectic. You need a man who can stand by your side-"
"You may be my Mother, but you do not run my life." I quickly say, drawing looks from the girls. I shake my head, go into my bedroom and close the door. "Please stop acting like my parent, because you don't act like a parent." I hang up as I hear her start to call me by my full name.

I take a few deep breaths, trying to relax before I hand the phone back to Kenna. Once I am positive I won't cry or yell, I gave Kenna her cellphone and sit on the sofa.
"What was that about?" Kinley asks, "What did Mom want?" Kenna asks as they sit next to me.
"Girls, I don't want to spoil your birthdays. Please, let's just have a great day before you leave." I smile, and they nod their heads.
I am headed to Times Square to shop for the girls. I saved up a lot of money throughout the years, thinking about how to run away from Jay... But that never happened. I also need to see if Mia will hire me back.
I park on the side of the road as in front of a few shops, and within minutes I have people taking photos of me getting out of the car. I put my sunglasses on, cluch my bag closer to my chest and walk into a shop. I am browsing around when I see a purse that Kenna would love. I tell the lady I would like to see it since it is on the wall and I can't reach up that high to get it...
The lady kindly hands me the expensive purse, and I nod my head. "I would like to buy this." The lady nods her head, staring at the crowd of people taking photos of me through the glass windows.
I pay for the purse and thank her for being so helpful. She nods her head, giving me a big smile. I leave the shop, getting panicked by the crowd of people.
"Guys! Give her some room for fuck's sake!" A man's voice says I look up to see Detective Justin Reed pushing people away. I give him a thankful smile, and he starts protecting me from their grabby hands. "I am Miss Marshalls security. Back off!" Justin yells, and only a few people listened.
He helps me into another shop that is Kinley's style. Once I relax, I start to walk around the shop with Justin walking carefully behind me.
"What are you doing here?" I whisper, facing towards the wall of clothes.
"Don't you remember, I told you I would be watching over you? It was an effortless job until you decided to be an actual person today." Justin chuckles, looking around the shop.
"It's my sisters birthday. Gotta get them presents, but I bet they have already seen what I got them." I look up at the camera's and frown slightly.
"Well, I hope they have a great birthday. Where are we all going tonight?" Justin asks, still following me around the store.
"What do you- oh." I quickly remember that he has to follow me everywhere I go. "Um, the girls want to go to a nightclub."
"I'll make sure to bring extra det- security." Justin quickly catches himself as I pick up a nice pair of boots from the shelf.
Silence...
"Thank you for uh- helping me out there." I awkwardly say, making him nod his head.
"It's my job to make sure what happened last time, doesn't happen again." Justin's face turns from alert to guilt then back to alert.
"It wasn't your fault, Justin. I mean, Dect- fuck." I groan at my inability to communicate.
"You can call me Justin." He chuckles, making me give him an apologetic look for dealing with my stupid self.
"Um- excuse me. I would like this pair of boots, size eight." I yell to the people talking gossip behind the counter. The one-person hurry to my side and takes the shoes from me. He leaves and comes back quickly with the shoes. I make sure they are size eight, and I pay for them.

"Ready?" Justin asks, and I nod my head. He helps me out of the shop and into my car. I give him a nod, and he waits a second until I can get out of the parking spot before getting into his car.
I drive to the supermarket, parking near the door. A car parks next to me and I immediately see Justin. Wow, he must have caught up to me pretty fast. Well, I drive like a grandma apparently to Kenna.
We walk into the market, and I see a beautiful cake I want to order to be made by tonight. I write my sisters names down as well as the age they are turning today so the elderly lady can write it on top of the cake.
"Will this cake be ready by seven?" I ask, and she nods her head. "Thank you, Judy." I give her a big smile, and she returns it.
I pick up a few things for Noah's lunch, and Justin watches me closely as I do so.
"So he's your boyfriend?" Justin asks, catching me completely off guard.
"Um- I don't know how to answer that." I honestly say, making him nod his head.
I leave the supermarket with Noah's lunch, I drive to the Hospital realising that I have nowhere to go. Should I text him or should I ask a nurse?
"Hey, I'm at the hospital." I texted Noah, quickly realising I shouldn't have just texted that. I am typing to him when I get a call from him.
"Where are you? Are you hurt? I'm coming to you now." Noah quickly says after one another, and before I say anything I see Noah racing down the hallway. "Phoebe, where are you hurt? What happened?" He stops in front of me, examining me with his eyes. How did he find me so fast?
"Noah, I'm fine. I- I'm stupid. I shouldn't have texted you, without explanation. I'm sorry." I show him my phone that I was texting him the explanation and he starts to physically relax. "I'm so sorry." I shake my head, feeling extremely embarrassed.
"Hey it's okay, it's okay." Noah tries to touch me, but stop when he sees someone behind me. "Hey man. You okay?" I turn around and it's Justin.
"Noah, that's- let's talk in private," I say, making Noah look from Justin to me. But walks us to an empty room.
"Who was that?" Noah asks, looking confused and honestly quite worked up.
"That's Detective Reed. He has been following me since the whole incident." I say, making Noah nod his head. Noah starts pacing slightly, making me tense.
"So if he's been watching you, he let you get attacked?" Noah is pissed, clenching his fist. "If he's been watching you, why is he now all of a sudden following you in person?"
"Noah," I whisper, walking up to him. "Noah, it's okay." I pull him into a hug and he calms down immediately. "Detective Reed will have plenty of people watching over me to make sure nothing happens. So between you and them, I'll be fine." I pull away enough to see his face and give him a kiss on the lips.
"You sure you're okay?" Noah asks, looking over me again. "Whatever it is, I'll examine you right now." Noah gives me the sweetest look, making my heart so full.
"Gosh, I am in love with you," I whisper, making him smile big. "I brought you lunch." I hand him the bag in my hands, and he looks in it. "I was out getting the girls their birthday cake and I thought it would be nice to bring you lunch." I blush slightly, moving my hair out of my face.
"Thank you, baby. Looks delicious. I actually want you to meet someone. Do you have time?" Noah asks, grabbing my hand and kissing my knuckles. I nod, and we walk out of the room. Justin is waiting across the door, giving Noah a look. What was that about? I ask myself as Noah grips my hand a bit tighter.
We walk into the elevator and head upstairs. As we exit, I see a long hallway filled with nurses and carts with computer screens attached. I squeeze Noah's hand and he looks down at me. He immediately stops what he is doing to face me.
"You're okay." Noah gives me a reassuring smile, and I nod my head. We continue walking for another minute. We stop in front of an open door, and I see a girl in the bed also, what looks like her mother reading a book. And a blonde man in a chair next to the bed.
Noah knocks on the wooden door, drawing their attention to us. The mother looks up smiling and waving at Noah and the girl doesn't look too happy to see him. But the blonde looks at Noah then at me, then back at Noah.
"Is this?" The blonde says, standing up. I immediately see he has a prosthetic leg. Before I can say anything, he pulls me into a tight hug making me gasp for air and wince at my messed up ribs.
"Mike, careful!" Noah yells, making the blonde names Mike quickly back away from me.
"Sorry, hun. I'm a very passionate person." Mike chuckles, putting his hand on the back of his neck.
"It's okay, Mike." I give him a small smile, I'm just not used to that...
"Let's get some lunch," Noah says, saying bye to the family. We leave the room and head to the elevator. We all head to the cafeteria and sit down at a table. I look to find Justin and he is waiting by the double doors.
"So this is Phoebe?" Mike asks Noah, and Noah nods his head. "I see what you mean, she is very beautiful. Good job, man."
"Um, I'm right here." I chuckle, feeling uncomfortable for a second.
"Sorry, sorry. I'm just shocked that anyone can love this hardass. Did you know everyone was terrified of him? Our whole unit!" Mike shakes his head, "Everyone would call him-"
"Mike." Noah interrupts him and they both laugh. It's so strange to see Noah with someone from his past. I've heard about his sister and a little bit about him Mom. But this is-
"Phoebe, what are you and the girls doing tonight?" Noah asks as Mike gets up to get lunch.
"Um, they want to go to a nightclub." I sigh, "I really don't want to go but it's their birthday and I promised."
"Are you sure you should be around alcohol and cigarettes? You're still recovering." Noah asks, grabbing my hand.
"I- I can't give you an answer." Honestly, I wish I was strong enough to refuse them but I don't think I can.
"How about I come with." Noah takes a bite of his sandwich.
"You would come?" I ask, shocked. I can't imagine Noah at a nightclub. "I don't want you to come if you don't want to. Plus, after a long workday."
"Baby, it's no problem. I don't want you to be tempted."
"Tempted by what?" Mike sits down with his lunch.
"Nothing," Noah answers, "It's a conversation between Phoebe and me."
"It's okay." I tell Noah, "I am recovering from Alcohol and Cigarettes. I had to quit cold turkey." I give Noah a soft smile.
"That's incredible!" Mike practically yells, "Seriously, that's amazing. That crap is deadly."
We all sit around the table, as Mike and Noah get into a deep conversation about being overseas. About Mike moving to New York and how Mike wants to come out tonight too. I sit there, staring at Noah. Completely memorised by him. After a while, I realise Justin isn't around anymore but I know I will see him again tonight.
