《Save My Hope》14 | Awkward

I cook an early dinner, not sure what she likes to eat. I don't even know if she eats meat or not. Also, I hope she isn't allergic to anything I cooked. Damn, I should have asked her-
I made some Chicken, Asparagus and Grilled Mushrooms. I haven't been able to go shopping. I have been spending a lot of time at the hospital to be with her. Honestly, it was to make sure she doesn't try to escape.
After the first time, she tried one more time after that- I think back to the second time it happened...
"Phoebe!" I yell, pushing her back onto the bed. She is fighting me, almost punching me in the face, "If you don't stop this, I will strap you to this bed! Do you understand me?" I look into her terrified green eyes. Phoebe nods her head and stops fighting against me.
I swear that I scared her so much she chose not to escape. Now, I am afraid she will try and flee my apartment.
I walk up to her door, about to knock but I hear her talking on the phone with someone. I didn't mean to listen, but I overhear her saying bye to her mom. Phoebe sounds annoyed and exhausted. I waited a few minutes before I knocked on the door, not wanting it to seem like I was eavesdropping. I lightly tap on the door, not wanting to scare her. I slowly opened the door, and I see her sitting in the chair, staring right into my eyes.
"Dinner is ready." I smile, making her bruised lips form into a smile. I look at her face, seeing the cuts starting to heal and the bruises starting to turn a shade of yellow.
"I'll be right out." She says, making me nod my head and leave the door cracked. I walk to the kitchen and wait for her to come out. When she does, she is holding her left arm to her side, slowly walking next to the two-seater sofa. She looks so anxious and unsure of what to do.
"You can sit wherever." I point to the island in front of me. "At the kitchen island, the table or even the couch." I turn around to the cabinets next to the fridge, pulling out two porcelain plates and glass cups. I turn around, and she sits down at the table slowly, probably starting to feel pain and puts her hands in her lap. I walk over to the table, set down our plates and go to the kitchen to grab silverware and something to drink.
"What would you like to drink?" I ask, stopping in front of the stainless steel fridge.
"Do you have wine?" She smiles, knowing how I don't want her to drink anything alcoholic. "Just kidding, water is fine."
I grab a pitcher of ice water and walk to the table, setting it down as well as the silverware. I sit down across from her, and we both dig in. At first, she struggles to cut into the Chicken with the brace on her arm, but she eventually manages. I internally sigh, thinking I should have cut it for her. I watch as she avoids the mushrooms and eats everything else.

"You don't like mushrooms?" I finally asked, trying to start a conversation, not liking this awkward silence.
"No, I'm sorry." She shakes her head, looking down at her lap. This made my heart ache slightly.
"No need to apologise." I give her a small smile, "What other food's, don't you like?" I ask, successfully making a conversation.
"Um-" She looks down at her plate, "Olives and Brussels Sprouts-" She stops, chuckling slightly, "I want to be a vegan, but I don't think I can." She finishes off the Chicken and puts down the fork.
"I couldn't do that-" I smile, chuckling. "I love meat too much," I admit, finishing my dinner and filling our glasses with water.
"I-" She starts, then stops. "I should take my medicine." She sits up, groaning slightly and goes to pick up her plate.
"No. I got it." I quickly say, standing up and reaching for her plate. "Go take your medicine."
"I can handle dishes." She is determined, grabbing the plate, silverware and her glass cup walking into the kitchen. I swear she was going to drop them, but she managed to get them all into the sink without breaking anything. She grabs her plate, scraping the Mushrooms into the trashcan.
I stand close behind her, making her stop what she is doing as I place mine into the sink. I can tell she has stopped breathing, completely frozen in place. I take a few steps away from her, and she lets out a deep breath continuing to wash the dishes. I walk to the dining room table, cleaning it and she finishes up with the plates.
I don't know how she managed to clean them with a wrist brace on, but she did. She steps away from the sink as I go to the sofa right next to the table and sit down. She walks next to the kitchen island and stands there awkwardly.
"Thank you for doing the dishes. You didn't need to." I get comfortable on the sofa, facing her.
"I know." She gives me a small smirk, looking around again. "I'm gonna go take my medication." Phoebe presses her arm against her healing ribs. She walks up to the kitchen counter and grabs her glass cup filled with water. She heads into her room, leaving me alone on the couch.
I decided to give her some space grabbing the remote on the coffee table and turning on the television. I flip through some channels putting on the news. I watch as it goes through the weather, sports, and then it gets to the breaking news. Instantly, photographs pop up of Phoebe and I as we left the Hospital.
"Phoebe Marshall, daughter to the Australian actress, left the Hospital with a tall male today. Why was she there? Who is the guy holding her waist? I will tell you guys soon, stay tuned!"

"It's funny how they have nothing better to talk about." I jump slightly, hearing Phoebe talk behind me. She stands there, looking up at the tv as they continue to talk about her. They are showing more photos or Pheobe an I.
"We have noticed Phoebe hasn't been working lately. Has she been hiding out with her new man? Yes. He is a doctor from Mount Sinai Hospital. We don't know exactly why she was there. But we noticed a bruised lip and a few bruises on her face. Was she hurt? We tried to contact her directly, but no answer."
"They could be talking about the starving people of Yemen, the fires in California, even the President for fuck's sake. " She sighs, closing her eyes and shaking her head. "But they talk about me because of who my mother is."
"Would you like to sit?" I ask, and she nods her head sitting next to me. We sit there listening to the people talk about her.
"In other news, paparazzi caught the Marshall twins leaving a club last night- McKinley was wearing a form-fitted skirt ripped and a sequence top, both from, 'Alice and Oliva'and McKenna were wearing a black Prada dress."
"They just can't get enough of your family." I look at the photographs of two brunette girls walking out of the club holding hands. Her sisters don't look alike, signalling to me they are fraternal twins. I feel bad for Phoebe; she has no privacy.
"It never ends." She whispers, sounding sad as she stands up from the sofa. Her eyes are glossing over, signalling to me that the drugs are in her system. "I'm gonna get some rest. Goodnight, Noah." She gives me a grin and saunters to her room.
"Goodnight, Phoebe." I smile, watching her enter her room and close the door behind her. I go back to watching the news, but I turn on Netflix instead.
I go to the kitchen, grabbing a cold beer and a bag of chips as I watch the movie "Black Panther." I heard it was a good movie from other coworkers, but I never had time to watch it.
I'm an hour into the movie when I hear a loud thump coming from Phoebe's room. I pause the video, rushing to the room, and I see Phoebe asleep on the floor. She is in the clothes she was wearing earlier, and the bed hasn't been touched. I notice a pillow is missing from the bed, but then I see it is in the chair with a blanket on the floor next to Phoebe. Was she sleeping in the chair?
I grab the pillow from the chair and put it back on the bed. I undo the blanket and pick Phoebe off the floor. I lay her down on the bed, pulling the sheets over her up to her shoulders. I had a habit of putting my hand on Phoebe's wrist, but I stop myself. Noah, she is fine...
I give her a last look as I leave her room, closing the door behind me. I turn off the lights around the apartment as I walk into the living room to finish the movie. When it is over, I am dumbfounded at how amazing the film was.
I go into the kitchen, tossing the beer bottle into the trash. I place the half-empty bag of chips on the counter and go to the closet outside of the bathroom. I open the closet and see all the medical supplies I have hidden away and grab a towel off the shelf. I head into the bathroom and turn on the shower making it hot as possible. I lock the bathroom door behind me and undress, I walk into the glass shower and wet myself down.
I wash my hair and body turning off the shower when I am done. I wrap a towel around my waist and head into my room. I change into black sweats and sit at the end of the bed, thinking about work and Phoebe.
I fall back and stare up at the ceiling, knowing how early I have to get up for work. I took off work today to be with Phoebe wanted to take her home. I picked up her prescription, made her dinner and made sure she is okay with her new living conditions.
I fall asleep, thinking about how sooner or later Phoebe will need to go back into her apartment and grab her things. Clothes, pictures and things she needs for work. I don't want her going back there- I hope she waits until this pathetic excuse of a man is put into prison before she decides to go back to work... But something inside of me knows that Phoebe isn't going to do that.
