《Save My Hope》07 | Confused

Beep. Beep. Beep.

What is that annoying sound? Make it stop- my head hurts.

I try to open my eyes, but it feels like they are taped down. A few more tries, and through blurry eyes, I can tell I am in an unfamiliar room. My eyes get too heavy to keep open, and that's when I feel something over my nose and mouth. I take in an uncomfortable breath, smelling clean oxygen flows through my nose.

I go to move my hand to take it off my face, but I feel someone holding onto my right hand. Who could it possibly be? I hear the monitor beeping faster, signalling my sudden fear, and my eyes snap open. I look down at my hand, seeing Noah clasping my hand.

When I realise it is Noah, the monitor starts beeping slower. He is asleep in a light tan recliner chair, facing towards me in the bed. Noah is wearing dark blue scrubs with one arm wrapped around his waist and the other holding my hand. His dark curly hair is messy as his head is leaning up against the back of the chair.

I want to move my hand out of Noah's, but it feels as though weights were placed all over her body. I am only able to move my finger, instantly waking him.

"Phoebe?" Noah's sleepy voice makes my heart do something funny, "I am so glad to see those eyes of yours." He sighs in relief, squeezing my hand tighter.

"How are you feeling?" He lets go of my hand slowly, places it down on the bed and stands up. He places a large hand on the side of my cheek, making me move away from his touch. "I'm not going to hurt you." He whispers, giving me a small smile. I am so confused...

I finally have enough strength to my hand up to my mouth, pulling the mask off my face. "What-" I try to say, but my voice is too raspy making me cough slightly.

"Your throat is dry from being intubated," Noah says, knowing my discomfort. He takes the mask off of my face, placing it behind me. I look up at him, his body close to mine. He wraps a clear chord around my face and behind my ears, placing the curved prongs into my nostrils. "You still need oxygen, okay?" Noah smirks and walks to the cracked door opening it and asking a nurse for water.

Noah walks to the end of the hospital bed, standing there and looking at me. He is about to speak, but a Nurse knocks on the door. The nurse moves the table from my feet up and over my hips. She places a cup of water on the table, looking directly at Noah.

"Anything else, Doctor?" She asks, waiting for his response. He shakes his head, and she leaves, closing the door behind her.

I take this chance to look around the hospital room. I am in a private room- They must know who I am... I turn my head to the right of me, seeing a couch in front of a double window watching out into Central Park. Of course, the tan recliner Noah was sleeping in.

I turn my head to the left to see a cart with a screen connected to it - a curtain, and of course, the door. I look up at Noah, and there is a flat-screen television hanging from the ceiling behind him.

"Phoebe." Noah snaps me back from looking around the room. I try to grab the cup, but my body still feels weak. He walks to the left side of me and presses a button attached to the hospital bed. I feel and hear the bed's motor as the bed helps me sit up without hurting myself.

"Here, let me help you." Noah moves the table away from me, grabs the cup of water and brings the straw close to my lips. He is so close to me; I can see his actual eye colour. Greens and browns intertwine with each other so beautifully... So beautiful- I hear the monitor beep faster, matching my heart.

Noah chuckles as I open my mouth, letting him place the straw into my mouth. I sip the water, feeling quick relief in my throat. After a few sips, I've had enough, moving my head away. He puts the plastic cup back on the table and puts his hands in his scrub pants.

"Noah-" I say, making him look directly into my eyes. "What happened?" I ask, not remembering anything. Oh no-

"You passed out due to blood loss." He starts, looking down at my hand as he brushes my knuckles. I like that feeling... "You have two broken ribs, your left wrist is sprained," I look at my wrist, looking at the wrap. "I removed your spleen since it was ruptured, the rupture caused you to have severe internal bleeding. Luckily we were able to stop the bleed and fix you all up." Ninety per cent of what he said went over my head- the thought of his fingers inside of my body invades my thoughts. I look at him confused, not sure what to say-

"You also have a mild concussion, a busted lip, eyebrow and even-" Noah stops, looking me in the eyes. He stops brushing my knuckles, seeing his eyes change from relaxed to serious. "You had a tear in your uterine wall-" In my what? I look down at my legs, pulling the blanket closer to me.

"You lost a lot of blood, Phoebe," Noah says, sounding frustrated, "That fucker almost killed you!" He lets go of my hand, quickly standing up and walking away from me. He runs his fingers through his curly black hair, taking a deep breath.

"Noah," I say, forcing myself to sit up more. My unwrapped hand jumps to the side, holding my ribs; instantly, it's getting harder to breathe. "Doctor McGuire." I correct myself, "It's not what you think, I-"

"Bullshit!" Noah yells in disbelief, making me close my mouth tight, "I heard everything happen that night! I heard you groaning in pain; I heard him slam the door and leave you there. I- Fuck! I didn't go up there and stop it!" He yells, pulling at the end of his hair, stressed and visibly upset. Why is he acting like this? He only talked to me twice before... One in the stairway and the other outside the parking garage. I've never seen someone, mostly a man react this way before...

"Doctor-"

I hear a noise go off and Noah shakes his head looking down at a small black device hanging on his waistband. He reads it and sighs in relief. "The police are here to take your statement." He says, walking to the door. No! This can't be happening-

Noah leaves me alone, and I don't give it a second thought. I throw the blankets off of me, hearing the monitors beep faster. I pull all the wires off my chest, as well as the chord in my nose. I rip the thing off my finger and the dark blue cuff off my arm throwing everything on the bed.

I move my legs off the hospital bed and scream in pain as I slide myself off the bed. I hesitate, looking at the needle in my arm, right when I am about to pull it out the door slams open. My green eyes meeting his dark brown-

I look behind him seeing two male cops, Noah lunges for me and I quickly grab the first thing I see.

A filled syringe-

Hiya! I hope you enjoyed this chapter. All I can say is, poor Phoebe. So much has happened to her, but at least Noah will be there to take care of her. But the way I ended it... This should get interesting.

Questions:

1. How do you think Noah will take care of her?

Thank you, everyone!
