《Sugar And Spice》Chapter forty-six: Get out

"You just keep messing up, don't ya babe?" Hayley spoke through the phone.
"You're not helping. I should start considering calling Daniel for advice, he sure helps a lot more than you do," I rolled my eyes. We got back home and hadn't said one word to each other since.
He was up in his room, I was down here in the living room.
"What're you gonna do?" she asked.
"If you haven't noticed, that's what I called you for," I replied.
"I think you should just apologize and admit you were wrong because frankly honey, you were."
I clicked my tongue, "I could've been right if it wasn't for stupid Amber. Why is it so difficult for people to be honest?" I groaned.
"You aren't being honest with Alex either, you're not admitting you were wrong," she scoffed.
"I already did admit that I was wrong. Admitting that I was wrong does not mean I have to apologize. I'm not sorry that I decided to help her," I replied.
"Are you sorry you and Alex fought because of it?" she questioned.
"Yeah," I said slowly.
"Then freaking apologize!" she groaned. We had been having this same argument for the last twenty minutes. "Look, you never mess with a girl's character and a boy's ego. If you were to apologize, you'd boost his ego. Consider it a favor for him," she said.
"And what does that say about my character, honey? That I'm easy and one to give in? Absolutely not. A girl's ego is just as important as a guy's." I huffed.
"Sure it is, but is it harder for you to break down your ego a little than admit you were wrong and give him his rightful happiness and right to tell you he told you so?!" she sighed.
"Alright, give the phone to Daniel," I said while standing up to grab some water.
"Hey," his voice echoed through the phone.
"What do I do?" I asked.
"Before I answer that if it comes down to it, would you be okay with apologizing?" he questioned.
"If it comes down to it? Yes," I answered.
"Alright, clearly you wanna keep this going for a little bit, your ego does at least, and I'm sure he wants you to cave in. Being on your team," he paused, "I say play it out a little longer. See how irritated he gets and if he starts genuinely getting upset then just apologize. From what I hear, it sounds like a petty fight."

"Thank you, that's how you give advice, Hayley. I'll see you guys soon, bye," I hung up. I know she puts her phone on speaker when she's with him, who the hell couldn't figure that out? Now all I have to do is see how far we can take this petty argument.

We both had pizza for dinner and were now lying in his bed backs facing each other, not saying one word. I bit my lip in thought before sitting up in bed and grabbing one pillow and my phone.
"What are you doing?" he grabbed my wrist before I could get up.
"I'm gonna get out," I replied. "I'm taking the couch," I sighed while slipping my flip flops on.
"Are you kidding?" he scoffed.
"Do I look like I'm kidding?" I arched an eyebrow at him.
"Fine," he let go of my wrist, "If you wanna take the couch then you can take the couch." He turned his back to face me and pulled the blanket up to his chest.
I nodded to myself before leaving and taking the couch. Maybe this argument isn't so petty after all.

I woke up in the middle of the night to muffled footsteps. I rubbed the sleep out of my eyes before sighing. His room was above mine so clearly, he was pacing. I rolled my eyes and walked up the stairs and to his room. "What are you doing?" I asked, my voice hoarse and raspy.
"I couldn't sleep," he shrugged.
"Okay well, could you please stop pacing so I can sleep? Thanks," I turned around and went right back downstairs.
x-X-x
I woke up the next morning to the inability to move. I huffed and looked down at my waist to see Alex's arm draped over it. I looked behind me to see him fast asleep, his chest pressed to my back.
He was breathing at a steady pace so he was in a deep slumber while I struggled to slide out of his grip.
I looked at the time on my phone and it was nine. His parents had left for work after seeing us like this. Great.
I was almost out of his grip but he stirred and removed his arm, causing me to fall onto the floor with a thump. I winced in silence before getting up and trudging up the stairs, to the bathroom. I brushed my teeth, washed my face and stepped out, getting startled by Alex who was just standing there.

"Sorry," I mumbled before slipping past him.
"Faith, I-" he began but the doorbell interrupted him.
"I'll get it," I said quickly before going downstairs and answering the door.
"Come on in," I sighed and stepped aside, letting Hayley and Daniel in.
"Still going?" Daniel asked.
"Yup," I answered.
"I don't get why you're taking this so far, it's unnecessary," Hayley shrugged.
"She's on his team," Daniel mumbled.
"Hmm, I see," I nodded while narrowing my eyes at her playfully.
Alex came downstairs after a minute and went to the kitchen with Daniel while Hayley and I sat on the couch. "You're getting more frustrated than he is," she snickered.
"A little," I admitted with a huff.
"So, how long are you gonna wait?" she questioned.
"Not too long. Tonight? Maybe tomorrow morning, I don't know," I shrugged while Daniel came and sat beside Hayley while Alex sat beside me.
"So, what do you guys wanna do?" Daniel asked.
"Let's just watch a movie," Alex shrugged before grabbing the remote.
x-X-x
We just finished our fourth movie of the day, A Quiet Place and I looked to my right to see Alex fast asleep, his head on my shoulder. I didn't even notice he did that. I looked to my left to see Hayley asleep in Daniel's lap. Daniel and I looked at each other before I turned the TV off, grabbing the remote from Alex's hand.
"Do you just wanna crash here?" I asked him.
"I'll take her to the guest room in a second," he nodded.
"Alright," I sat up slowly, lifting Alex's head and resting it on the couch. "Alex," I shook him slightly. He stirred but didn't wake up. "Alex," I said a little louder. His eyes opened slowly and he sat up. "Come on," I stood up and held my hand out for him to take.
He took it and followed me up the stairs, with his eyes closed. He tripped but caught himself.
"There wasn't a step there," I bit back a laugh while opening the door to his bedroom. He stepped inside and fell on the bed right away.
I grabbed the pillow to crash on the couch after I heard Daniel open the door to the guest room but Alex pulled me down beside him.
"Where are you going?" he mumbled sleepily.
"To the couch," I whispered while biting back a smile that was threatening to form on my face as he wrapped his arms around me and rested his head in the crook of my neck.
"Why?" he whined, hugging me tighter and pulling me closer.
"Because we're fighting," I answered.
"Why are we fighting Faith?" he huffed.
Noted, he gets drunk when he's sleepy. Seriously though, he's acting like he's two bottles down.
"Because we disagreed on something," I stated.
"So we fought?" he questioned, his eyes still sealed shut.
"Yup," I replied.
"Why?" he asked again. "Why did we fight? Why didn't we come to a conclusion with a solution?" he pouted while I ran my fingers through his hair.
"Because we both are just too petty," I chuckled softly.
"Too damn petty for our own good," he sighed. "I don't want to fight anymore," he mumbled while dozing off.
"We just got started," I smiled.
"Yeah, but I don't want to," he whined while shuffling. "I miss kissing you all the time," he sighed. "And hugging you, and cuddling like we are right now. I miss telling you I love you," he pouted.
"In one day?" I questioned in slight confusion.
"Yeah, that's all I can take away from you."
Don't squeal, Faith. Don't squeal.
"You know, I'm really proud of the fact that we've never fought badly and that our arguments don't last more than a day or two."
I smiled as he continued.
"You know what that means though?"
I inhaled, "What?"
"That means we are going to have this one huge fight in the future. Maybe during the summer, or the winter, or the fall, or the spring. Maybe if we don't land in colleges near each other. Maybe when one of us thinks the other is cheating, but you know what else that means?"
I sighed, "What, Alex?" I asked.
"That we'll have this huge fight that we would have worked out. A fight that we can brag about to our kids. A fight that pulls us together, stronger than we are now."
Yup, that's my heart melting.
