《Sugar And Spice》Chapter eighteen: Poison

"Bye!" I kissed my mom and dad's cheeks before running out the door. "Hey," I raised my eyebrows while walking up to Alex who was leaning against his car.
"Morning," he smiled while walking to the passenger side with me and opening the door for me.
"Thanks," I kissed his cheek before getting in.
"You seem chirpy," he chuckled while getting in the driver's seat and beginning to drive to school.
"Something's in the air," I shrugged. "How's the bruise?" I turned him.
"It's better, it should be gone within the next two days," he glanced at me.
"I'll ask you again, how's the bruise?" I could see through his lie. I don't know how, but I could.
"Hurts like a bitch but nothing I can't take," he admitted.
"Can I see?" I asked. He nodded while turning the corner. I lifted his shirt and oh my god was that nasty. It was all shades of purple, blue, red and black and it looked worse than yesterday but that's how bruises heal, don't they? They happen and look all red and yellow and then look horrifying before disappearing.
"Looks better," I lied.
"I looked in the mirror you know," he gave me a pointed look while parking the car. I smiled at him innocently as he turned the car off. "Still hurts to the touch?" I questioned.
"Not as much," he replied. "Do you wanna hang out here for a while? We're pretty early," sipped on his coffee.
"Sure," I shrugged in response. He handed me his coffee while going through his bag, looking for something and I made the mistake of taking a sip and lord have mercy. "What the fuck do you drink?" I looked at it in disgust while my nose scrunched up.
"Coffee?" he looked at me.
"That is not coffee. That is poison, buddy." I handed it back to him.
"It's black coffee." He looked at me like I was exaggerating.
"I know what black coffee tastes like, I don't like that as it is because I don't drink coffee but this is too much. You are not having this from tomorrow," I ordered.
"Oh, what will I have then?" he leaned his elbow on the armrest, inching closer to me.

"I will make your coffee every damn day if I have to but this- absolutely not," I shook my head.
"Well, I would love for you to make me coffee every damn day," he smiled cheekily.
"Do you really want me to?" I asked because I would love to make him coffee every day.
"Yeah," he nodded.
"I'll bring you some tomorrow, you can try it out, tell me how you like it." I shrugged.
"Well, if you make it I'm sure I'll like it," he smirked while grabbing my hand and holding it in his.
"Someone's feeling flirty," I laughed while turning to face him completely, crossing my legs and sitting up.
"Mm-hmm," he nodded before puckering up. I laughed and pecked his lips before noticing the parking lot filling up. We grabbed our stuff and headed into the building and we were at our lockers when I noticed Daniel and Hayley walking in together.
Am I missing something?
Alex and I looked at each other before turning to see Hayley and Daniel flirting with each other. Their body language gave it away very clearly. We gave each other the look before walking up to them, using the opportunity to tease them.
"Heyyy," I stretched out my words while linking my arm with Hayley's.
"Hi," Hayley laughed awkwardly while an embarrassed blush coated her cheeks. I felt bad doing that because she'd never do it to me so I nodded at her before unlinking my arm from hers. "Alex, walk with me?" I asked.
He smiled at me before walking to my side. Alex and I slowed down our speed to let Daniel and Hayley get back to it.
"What do you have?" he asked while kissing the side of my head as he threw his arm around me.
"Math," I pouted.
"Want me to walk you?" he offered.
"And then walk back to the other side of the school? I think you should pass," I chuckled.
"You sure?" he asked and I nodded in response. "See you in bio," he kissed my cheek before walking away to his class while I continued walking to mine.
I was walking to class when one of the classroom doors opened and an arm reached out, dragging me inside.

"What the hell?" I gasped while I was thrown into the room.
"Long time no see," Cody smirked at me.
"What do you want?" I rolled my eyes while he backed me up against the wall.
"I'll get to the point, you and Alex need to break it off," he demanded.
"Did I ask for your opinion? I think the fuck not," I tried pushing past him but he had me trapped between him and the wall.
"I know what you're doing," he smirked at me and it was nothing like Alex's.
"And that is?" I arched an eyebrow at him.
"You don't have to use him to get back at me, Faith. You could have just asked," he leaned in.
"You wish," I pushed him back.
"Don't you think it's a little fucked up? Getting over someone so fast? Do you realize what people will think about that?" he lifted a brow.
I opened my mouth to say something but no words came out. "Leaving me and hopping to someone new so quickly makes you a little bit of a..." he trailed off. "Don't you think?" he asked.
"And what does cheating make you, Cody? That's a lot worse than what you call me," I glared.
"Is it really?" he arched a brow.
Don't Faith, don't. Don't let his words trick you!
"I mean, all that kissing a PDA is really making an impression. You agree, don't you?"
Son of a bitch.
"Is that all? Can I leave, I have to get to class," I rolled my eyes.
"If you will," he stepped back and mocked surrender as he put his hands up. I began to walk out but turned back.
"Just one more thing," I turned to him. He was leaning on the desk, smirking when I grabbed his shoulders and kneed him in the balls. He winced and I fucking booked it and ran. I got into class right before the teacher did and I sighed while falling into my seat.
"You okay?" Daniel chuckled.
"What does Alex have right now?" I asked while breathing heavily.
"Um- basketball," he replied.
I huffed as the lesson began and I got to work.
x-X-x
Hear me out, I know I shouldn't let Cody's words get to me and yes, he is a dick and a motherfucking asshole, but he was my boyfriend and I couldn't help but let his words hit me.
Did I really move too fast with Alex?
I know at first it was just to show people but now it's more than that and Cody's words are making me question it.
"Hey," he leaned in to kiss my cheek but I backed away. "Everything okay?" his smile faltered.
"I need to talk to you," I sighed.
"Right now?" he asked.
"Yeah, do you mind if we skip?" I asked hesitantly.
"Sure yeah, let's go." He led the way to the field. It's easy to hide out there but because one huge tree hides everything in the corner. We sat down behind that tree and I took in his appearance.
He was a little sweaty, his hair was damp so he probably poured water on himself and he looked a little worn out.
"Alex," I sighed. "I need to talk to you about the conversation we had yesterday," I stated.
"Which conversation?" he asked while drinking water.
"Two plus two," I smiled at the moment replaying in my head.
"Want me to ask again?" he smirked.
"Alex," I sighed and he sobered up. "I think we need to slow down," I breathed. He stayed silent, waiting for me to continue. "We started with a plan and clearly, we didn't stick to it, we can't. I do think that I like you, but we're moving too fast. It's just- it's too much. It doesn't look real and-" he cut me off.
"Why does it have to look real? It should just feel real, right?" he asked me. He's already sounding hurt and upset.
"Hold on, that's not what I mean. I'm just saying that we're going way too fast and I think that's because when we started, it wasn't real at all but now that possible feelings are involved, we should go back and actually use the time that we spent scheming on getting to know each other now. If you think about it, how well do we really know each other?" I sighed.
"How do you suggest we get to know each other?" he asked after nodding in the understanding of my words.
"Maybe we should talk more about ourselves. I mean, we don't have to fake it anymore, do we?"
He shook his head in response.
"One more thing," I said hesitantly. "Less kissing. A lot less kissing."
And that was me digging my own grave.
