《Sugar And Spice》Chapter eight: Give me your hand

"Ready to step out?" I asked while turning the car off.

"It's not that big of a deal, no one's probably even here y- oh my god!" her eyes widened as we stepped out of my car. Everyone was here freakishly early and everyone was staring at us. Funny, don't you think? "Whoa, what is going on?" she asked as I walked over to her and began walking into the building with her.

"Well uh- you see th- there's a problem," I began explaining awkwardly.

"Oh no, what did you do?" she asked.

"I told Daniel that I like you," I stated.

"And?" she questioned.

"He told Hayley," I added.

"And the entire school suddenly knows how?" she pressed further.

"Well, Amber heard it," I informed.

"She is going to kill me, you do understand that, right?" She looked at me wide-eyed.

"You two talk?" I asked in confusion.

"No. But we don't have to talk for her to-" The voice I hated yet was so familiar with, broke in.

"Hi, Faith!" Amber's heels clicked as she trotted over.

"I will kill you," she whispered to me before turning to face Amber. "Hi?" she said but it came out like a question. "Can I help you with anything?" she cleared her throat and all nervousness and fear was gone.

Or she just concealed it really well.

"Can I have a word with you please?" Amber asked.

"Oh, sure," Faith shrugged.

"Oh, I meant alone," Amber glared subtly.

"Oh, um- alone?" Amber nodded. "Yeah, no." Faith shook her head.

"I don't think you understand, I need to talk to you," Amber said through gritted teeth. The girl has a little bit of a temper.

"And you can. Here," Faith replied.

"Alright then, I hear you're going out with my boyfriend, is it true?" she asked, being straightforward while intentionally gathering a crowd.

"No. I'm not going out with your boyfriend. I'm going out with Alex," she answered confidently.

"Who is my boyfriend," Amber scoffed.

"Mm- yeah no, he's not. Last I checked you cheated," she shrugged.

Whoa.

"Excuse me?" Amber spat.

"Yeah. Last I checked, you cheated on Alex. With my ex-boyfriend, Cody." Faith said casually as people began whispering.

"Is this some petty game you two are playing? I mean come on, Faith. Be mature and just talk it out with Cody. Don't ruin our relationship just because-" Faith cut her off.

"Just because you ruined mine?" she glared.

Alright then.

"Your boyfriend kissed me!" Amber tried to defend herself.

"Oh, I know. That's why I broke up with him." Faith nodded.

"W-well, Alex never broke up with me so technically, he is still my boyfriend!" Amber reasoned.

"Oh, is he? Okay," Faith shrugged before turning to face me. She grabbed my shirt and smashed her lips on mine. She kissed me and boy did she do it right.

"Is he still your boyfriend?" she pulled away and turned to face Amber.

"Oh Faith, did you really have to be a whore to get back at Cody?" Amber asked tauntingly while people gasped.

"See, I would call you a whore, but I think we both know, nobody's gonna pay for that." Faith replied.

"Okay, the show's over." I cut in and grabbed Faith, pulling her away. "What just happened?" I asked while pulling her back to my car.

"Nothing happened," she shrugged casually while picking up her pace.

"Faith." I jerked her back, making her collide into me. "What are you doing?" I asked softly.

"I don't know! Okay? I don't know! I didn't ask for this to happen to me. I didn't ask to be cheated on, I didn't ask to lie about being in a relationship, I didn't ask for a confrontation with that plastic Barbie and I didn't ask to be stuck here in this mess with you!" she snapped.

"Nobody asks for this stuff, okay?" I replied.

"You did! You asked me to do this."

I rolled my eyes, "I didn't hold a gun to your head, Faith. If you didn't want to do it then you could've just said so." I answered. "But clearly, you do wanna do it." Her eyes snapped to mine.

"You're trying to convince yourself that you don't want to do this, you don't want to be petty, you don't want to pretend like you're happy, you don't want to make him mad and jealous and you just want an apology and respect but that's not true! You do want to see him mad. You do want to make him jealous and you do want to hurt him as he hurt you, even if you can't!" I countered.

"You don't know that!" she argued.

"Yes, I do! Because I did not care about Amber and I still wanna do it!" I explained.

"Faith, you're not stooping low just because you want to be respected and you want to get back at someone for hurting you. That's not what this is," I sighed. "You're not a whore, you're not a bitch and you're not stooping low, okay?" I raised my eyebrows at her.

"I'm leaving," she huffed.

"What?" I asked.

"I can't be here today just- give me your hand." She demanded while digging through her bag.

"Huh?" I thought out loud.

"Just give me your hand," she repeated. I placed my hand in hers and she flipped it over. "Here's my number. Now you know how to reach me, please tell Hayley I felt sick and left, bye!" she quickly wrote her number down and began marching to the exit.

"Wait!" I called out.

She stopped and turned to me, "What?" she huffed.

"You're gonna walk home?" I asked.

"I'm not going home, my mom is the principal! If you need me, then you know where to find me," she replied.

"No, I don't," I stated.

She sighed, "I'll be at the park," she rolled her eyes before walking off.

"Fuck's sake," I sighed before sprinting to the principal's office. I left a note at the door stating that she wasn't feeling well so she left and I went with her. Her mom is the only person that needs to know right now.

I ran back out to my car and got in frantically, I drove and found her walking on the sidewalk, moping. I slowed down until I matched her pace.

"Faith, get in!" I called out.

"You're supposed to be at school," she picked up her pace.

"And so are you! Just get in. I won't take you back there, I swear!" I replied.

"So you'll take me where?" she interrogated.

"Somewhere secret, will you come?" She didn't reply. "Come on, clumsy," I whined. She sighed before getting into the passenger seat.

"Where are we going?" she asked almost immediately.

"Dearborn Park," I answered. We fell into silence and it was not a comfortable one.

"I'm sorry for throwing a fit," she said in a small voice.

"It's okay, you had every right to," I replied while pulling into the park.

"Not really, I didn't," she chuckled.

"Don't go all shy on me now, clumsy. I think we're close enough, don't you?" I teased before stepping out and jogging to her side to get the door for her.

My dad taught me to always be a gentleman, even if the lady is a bitch and this one certainly isn't.

She laughed while stepping out and entered the park with me. There were only a few kids here and other than that, it was pretty empty.

"Alex, I'm sorry." She huffed as we sat on a set of swings. "Seriously, I made that a huge deal when it didn't have to be. I shouldn't have done that and I'm also sorry about yesterday. You do know that I don't hate you, right?"

Are you kidding me? She's still thinking about that?

"Yeah, I think I understood that pretty clear when you said I was amazing," I smirked while looking at her.

"Now, I know we're dating to the human eye but uh- friends?" she asked while extending her hand out for me to shake.

"We've kissed," I replied. "Thrice," I added. She rolled her eyes and glanced at her hand then back at me. "But yeah, friends," I placed my hand in hers and shook it.

"Can I ask you a question?" I asked and she hummed in response. "Do you want him back?" I asked hesitantly.

It was clearly a sensitive topic but I had to know because if she does and if she's using me to help get him back, then that changes the whole story, it changes everything. But if she doesn't want him back and only wants revenge, then that's different too.

"No, I don't want him back." She shook her head, "I just want revenge," she shrugged. "Why does that matter?" she asked.

Well, if she doesn't want him back then maybe, just maybe, I can have her?

No!

Scratch that, nevermind.

I can't.

We wouldn't last, would we?

"I was just curious," I lied.

She is messing with my head without even trying and that needs to stop.

Immediately.

I am fucked.
