《Sugar And Spice》Chapter seven: Come on in

"Thank you so much for driving me home," I leaned on his window.

"Bye," he kissed my cheek. My eyes widened and he laughed.

"Bye," I chuckled before walking over to my front door. I rang the bell and while I was waiting, I noticed he was too. "Aren't you gonna leave?" I called out.

"I have to make sure you get in safe," he replied.

My mom opened the door, looked at me and let out a sigh of relief. "You owe me an explanation, Faith Hughes. Oh, hi Alex!" my mom waved like a maniac. "Come on in," she ushered him over.

"Oh, I don't think I should," he smiled softly.

"Oh hush, come on!" she repeated. He looked at me and I just stared back.

"You should come," I said honestly. He sighed and unbuckled, hopping out and locking his car, walking over to us and following us into the house.

"Faith, where were- oh," my dad came strolling over before stopping in his tracks when he saw Alex. "Were you with him?" he asked.

"Yeah, he had practice and I stayed back to watch," I sighed while putting my bag down by the counter and grabbing myself and Alex some water.

"Why'd you stay back to watch?" my mom asked in confusion. I froze and then luckily Alex answered.

"She was thinking of how to organize the game this Friday so she stayed back to watch to just see where things could be placed. We were talking about it, actually," he lied smoothly.

"Oh, what's the new idea?" my dad asked.

Did he really have to?

"Um- I was thinking that maybe we could uh- switch the cheerleaders out for a stand." I blurted out the first thing that came to mind.

"A stand?" my parents asked.

"I think it's a little annoying for girlfriends and you know close people who cheer to sit in the bleachers with a huge crowd where they can't even go down to say hi to the members without tripping over someone else. Maybe there could be a stand with one person for each player or something?"

This idea is so stupid.

"Like personal cheerleaders?" my mom asked. Oh, this is so stupid.

"Mm-hmm," I nodded while chewing the inside of my cheek.

"That's actually not a bad idea. But then where would the cheerleaders go?" she asked.

"Well um- the cheerleaders could do their routine by the benched members and people cheering for specific players could be there in the stand." I shrugged.

"You want to build this stand by Friday?" my mom asked in confusion.

"No! Just the first row of the bleachers would work. Just like three-fourths of it is a stand and the rest remains the same." I explained. Okay, that doesn't sound so stupid anymore.

"I think we should only do it for soccer because that has the most attendees, right?" my mom asked while grabbing her phone.

"Mm-hmm, right." I nodded in agreement.

"I'll let the board know," she smiled. "I think it's suitable for girlfriends of the players, what do you think Richard?" My mom smiled at my dad.

"Who's cheering for you this Friday, Alex?" my dad asked straight up.

That was rude.

"I am," I replied quickly. "There are no cheerleaders for this game, they're going with the football team for the game in the opposing school so I'm cheering for him. Amber's not here." I said. It's true, the cheerleaders will be gone.

"I think it's a great idea, Monica. I think everyone will really enjoy it."

Phew.

"I should head out, it was nice seeing you Mr. and Mrs. Hughes," he smiled.

"I'll walk you out," I lead the way. Once we were out, I smacked his shoulder. "Do not ever put me on the spot like that, oh my god," I sighed.

"You handled it really well, that idea is great," he chuckled.

"Not really, what happens to the people who actually sit there?" I asked as he leaned against his car.

"Oh come on, they'll find some space. It's not that crowded. We should try that for this week's game," he nodded.

"Cheerleaders move to the benches, attendees move over and we move to the stand, great," I groaned.

"By the fence! Some attendees could sit by the bleachers by the fence," he suggested.

"Those little bleachers we have?" Our school has a few bleachers on the other side of the field as well just in case.

"Yeah! Or the people cheering could move there." That makes more sense.

"Why didn't you say that there?" I smacked his shoulder again.

"Well, you can go in and take credit for it," he shrugged.

"Ha, I'll go in and give you the rightful credit for it," I said.

"So, you're gonna cheer for me then?" he smirked.

"Should I not?" I arched an eyebrow. "I could make you a new sign but I guess not," I shrugged.

"Please do it?" he asked. "The sign needs to be made by you."

True.

"Okay, I'll make one." I sighed. "I'll see you tomorrow, bye," I smiled.

"Bye," he smiled before getting in his car and driving away. I walked back in to see my parents sitting on the island, waiting for me to walk in.

"Why didn't you kiss him?!" my mom whined.

"What is going on?" my dad interrogated.

"What? Why would I kiss him?! Nothing is going on!" I answered quickly. "I do not like him. We just figured since we argue all the time while organizing games, it's better to become friends, that way we won't disagree on everything," I lied.

"Hmm, I guess that makes sense." My mom shrugged. "Well, dinner's ready!" she said in her usual cheery tone.

"Be careful with that boy," my dad said as I sat down beside him after washing my hands.

"Nothing is going on, dad." I sighed.

We were done with dinner and I had just stepped out of the shower and came into my room in a towel. I grabbed my pajamas and went back in. I got dressed, brushed my teeth and then hopped into bed.

I sighed until a paper ball flew in from my window. I stood up to see Alex standing there.

"What're you doing?" I asked in confusion before throwing his paper ball back.

"I don't wanna have to call on your house phone to reach you so can I have your number?" he asked.

"You couldn't have waited until tomorrow morning?" I questioned and he just shook his head in response. "Well, too bad you're gonna have too," I shrugged before closing my window, pulling the blinds shut and getting back into bed. I watched a little bit of Friends before closing my laptop and falling asleep.

I woke up, did my morning routine, picked an outfit, grabbed my food and got downstairs.

"Here you go," my mom handed me a plate with two hashbrowns.

"Why aren't you dressed?" I asked her in confusion.

"I'm going to get to school late today," she replied.

"Oh, okay," I shrugged I ate and then stood up to grab my car keys.

"Honey, no." She exclaimed.

"What?" I looked at her weirdly.

"You're not driving."

I sighed, "And neither are you, so how will I get to school?" I arched an eyebrow at her.

"You have a ride waiting outside." I don't remember Hayley saying she'll pick me up.

"Okay then, bye," I kissed her cheek before heading out. I put my keys in my bag and stepped off my porch, stopping dead in my tracks when I was greeted by Alex leaning against his car.

"Morning clumsy," he smiled.

"What're you doing?" I asked while looking at him weirdly while walking to him.

"You look pretty."

What is he doing?

I was wearing black ripped skinny jeans, a white titanic shirt, a red flannel with open buttons and black combats with my hair in a side braid.

What?

"Alex, what are you doing?" I asked while raising my eyebrows in anticipation.

"Complimenting you?" he shrugged.

"With your car. Why are you here?" I asked while walking over to him and standing in front of him.

"Oh yeah, I'm driving you to school." He's what now?

"Why?" I asked in confusion.

"Because why not? Come on," he stepped aside and held the door open for me. Someone has gentleman habits. He got into the driver's seat and began driving.

"Why are you driving me to school?" I asked in confusion while eating a strip of gum.

"So he notices. And also because you still haven't given me your number and now you can't delay that anymore," he smirked.

I rolled my eyes and bit back a smile.

"Well, you can't make me give it to you so you'll just have to play the waiting game," I smirked.

We small-talked the rest of the ride and before I knew it, we reached.

Wish me luck.
