《Sugar And Spice》Chapter three: Liar

"Go, Alex!" I screamed. I mean, if I said I'll cheer I might as well, even though I really didn't say I'd cheer.

"Alex!" This girl beside me has been trying to cheer for him a lot louder than me and that is not what is bothering me. What's bothering me, is that she's trying to take the sign.

"Okay listen here, you wanna cheer for him? That's fine. But the sign's mine, okay?" I said to her, snatching the sign back.

"You're not his so why is the sign yours?" she asked me accusingly. "Unless you're cheating on-"

I didn't get a chance to respond when Hayley snatched our sign back before the football actually just flew and hit the girl in the head. I stood there, my jaw hitting the ground.

"Oh, my gosh! Are you alright?" I bent down and helped the girl up while Alex jogged up to us.

"Sorry about the ball!" he screamed, quickly taking the ball back and jogging back before shooting me a smirk. He definitely did that on purpose.

The nurse came and took the girl and we got back to cheering as nothing happened. The game came to an end and we won, of course with nine to three.

"Do you think that girl is okay?" I asked Hayley.

"Who cares?! She was being a bitch," Hayley shrugged.

"Okay," I mumbled.

"Do you want to hang out tomorrow?" Hayley asked.

"Sure, what time?" I asked as we walked down the bleachers.

"Noon at yours?" she asked and I agreed. "Are you staying back to clean up a little bit?" she asked.

"Yup, so I'll see you tomorrow?"

She nodded.

"Alright, bye!" I hugged her bye before she walked to her car and I stayed out to help start cleaning up. I helped some people clear up. "Bye guys!" I waved them bye once we had cleaned up the majority of the stuff and I was about to leave but then I realized I should probably give Alex his sign back. So with that thought, I grabbed the sign and headed to the locker room, not going inside this time, of course.

I was about to enter the building when I saw a silhouette of a car. I tried to look harder and saw that the car was Cody's. "What?" I whispered to myself while taking steps closer to it. I looked harder and jumped back when the light inside the car turned on. "What a fucking liar," I scoffed while shaking my head when I saw him in the car making out with someone.

With Amber.

I turned away before either one saw me and began walking into the building.

"I am calm, I am calm, I am calm. It's no big deal, he wasn't worth it anyway, fucking asshole." I mumbled to myself while entering the building. I kept walking and just as I was about to turn the corner to the boys' locker room, I broke down.

I fell against the lockers to the ground while tears ran down my face. I put my hand over my mouth to block out the sob that was trying to break through and placed the sign on the ground beside me. I leaned the back of my head against the locker and let out a cry.

x-X-x

I don't know how long I was there for but I had cried everything out in the dark hallway. I heard faint footsteps but I wasn't able to act quick enough to stand up and look normal.

"I thought you ran away with my sign," Alex chuckled.

"Nope, still here," my voice cracked.

Fuck.

I sniffed quickly while wiping my tears away.

"Faith?" he called out.

"Here's your sign," I quickly handed it to him. I was about to turn around and leave but he grabbed my wrist, again.

"Faith?" he asked again. He reached his arm behind the lockers and flicked a switch, turning the light on.

That's where the light switch is?

I kept my head down. "I have to get home, Alex. Congratulations on the game," I tried to get away but his grip only tightened.

"Faith, are you okay?" he asked, sounding concerned. This feels weird. He lifted my chin to look at him and brushed my hair out of my face. "Have you been crying?" he asked.

"No," I said too quickly. "Maybe," I said. "Yes," I admitted.

"Are you alright?" he questioned.

"I-I'm fine," I tried to sound normal but my voice was hoarse.

"What happened?" He placed the sign back on the ground and sat me down beside him.

I groaned into my hands, "I am such an idiot!" I screamed.

He stayed quiet and listened.

"I actually thought he was a good guy! I actually thought he liked me! He said he loved me! He's a fucking liar!" I shouted into the air. "What am I gonna do?" I held my head in my hands. "Oh my god, what am I gonna do?" I asked myself panicking.

"Who's the girl?" he asked.

"Oh no. Oh no, no, no, no, no," I mumbled.

"What?" he asked.

"I don't know," I lied.

"Faith," he said my name slowly and warningly.

I slowly turned and my eyes met his, full of guilt.

It clicked in his head and he leaned his head against the locker, chuckling coldly. "Fucking bitch," he scoffed.

"Me?!" I asked in surprise.

"No!" he said quickly. "Amber. It was her, wasn't it?" he asked.

I kept my head down and nodded slowly.

"I should have known, he didn't come for the game, she didn't come for the game. I am such an idiot!" he groaned as I did just a second ago.

"Please don't take this the wrong way," I began, "But you're a player, and uh- you didn't see it coming?" I asked very hesitantly.

"I did," he nodded, "And I ignored it."

Oh, I see. "Well," I sighed, "Congratulations."

He turned to me, "You already said that for the game," he replied.

"Not for the game. We both got played congratulations." I scoffed at how pathetic I was being. When I see him again at school on Monday, I'm going to have to face him even though I don't have one fucking clue how.

"They really cheated on us with each other?" he chuckled humorlessly.

"Well, that's our luck, right?" I ran my hands over my thighs before standing up. "I should go, I'm sorry you had to find out well, from me." I smiled down at him sadly.

"Wait, wait, wait!" He quickly stood up and grabbed my hand. I looked at our hands and when he realized he quickly pulled his away. "Can I come over?" he asked bluntly.

"What?" I asked, stunned.

"I need to talk to you," he replied.

"Um- I'm right here!" I gestured to myself.

"Please, just trust me," he sighed pleadingly.

I stayed silent, thinking it over in my head. "Fine," I sighed in defeat. We left together, getting in our own cars, driving to mine. Once I got to my house, I slowly opened the door to see my parents sitting at the kitchen counter, having wine. "For fuck's sake," I whispered to myself.

"Honey?" my mom looked at me in confusion.

"It's not what you think! He wanted to discuss some ideas for the next game," I quickly grabbed his hand and dragged him up to my room. Kill me now. I peered down the stairs, "Don't!" I said to my parents warningly. I got to my room and shut the door. "What?" I huffed, leaning against the door while he sat at the foot of my bed.

"I think we should go out," he said.

"Go out where?" I asked in confusion.

"Jesus," he chuckled. "I think we should date."

Oh. Oh.

"What?!" I shouted.

"I'm taking you out," he replied.

"Bu-but you're not my type!" I reasoned.

That is such a big lie.

"I smell smoke because somebody's pants are on fire." He gave me a knowing look.

"This is not the time to quote 'Friends'!" I screamed. "You're asking me out? Are you forgetting who I am?" I asked.

"Listen to my proposition," he began, "They cheated on us. Don't you want to get back at them? Don't you want to get revenge on him? Make him a little jealous?" he asked.

"Even if I do, why would you help? You didn't even care about her," I pointed out.

"I didn't care about her but she cheated on me, I have every right to be mad. Plus, I don't like the guy," he shrugged nonchalantly.

"Alex, is this a fucking joke to you?" I asked, folding my arms across my chest.

"No! I'm trying to help you. You helped me out today. You help me out with every game you organize. I want to help you too."

And then I asked the question I'd been wanting to. "Is this who you are when no one's watching? Someone who wants to help?" I asked.

"Not really, but I want to help you. Will you take the offer?" he asked while standing up and walking over to me.

"Why do you want to help me?" I questioned.

"Because you don't deserve to be cheated on and get hurt the way you did. I kinda do so..." he said the last part to himself. "So are you in?" he asked, standing right in front of me.

"Yeah," I inhaled, "I'm in."

He smiled at me slightly and oh my god, I think I melted.

Shut up, get a grip.

"See you tomorrow?" he asked.

"Tomorrow." I nodded. "Wait, tomorrow?" I questioned.

He chuckled. "I'll see you tomorrow, Faith. Goodnight." He kissed my cheek before moving me out of the way and leaving.

What just happened?
