《Going For The Goal》Chapter One

Savannah's POV
I stood defence waiting for the starting whistle. Looking over to see my best friend Brooke as she gives me a thumbs up, I return it by giving her a sly smirk mouthing a "We got this" she gives a quick nod and the referee blows his whistle. I fix my captain's band a watch as my team breaks down the field playing a very strong offence. Julie, our right forward, makes a break down the middle only to be slide tackled by the sweeper who then plays a through ball down the field to their left winger it's my time, I start yelling for Brooke and the other defenceman to cover as I sprint towards the girl slide tackling the ball out from her feet and sending it to a Jessie, a midfielder. The game keeps a tie until half and the ref blows his whistle, we walk off the field to Coach Kyle
"You girls look like shit out there" thanks coach! "I'm expecting a win or you all will be doing laps next practice. Understood? Good, now go out there and kick ass"
The ref blows his whistle again and before going back on the field we give a quick cheer that the team had made two years ago. We get into our positions and the game starts again, within the first ten minutes our striker, Jackie, had gotten a goal putting us in the lead. When we score again the other team starts to get pissed and has become extremely aggressive. Their same forward from before comes sprinting with the ball towards me, I chase after her, just as I came close she passes the ball but doesn't stop knocking me right to the ground. In the collision she stomps on my ankle making me scream in pain. I fall to the ground and the ref calls for coach Kyle as remain still the other girl gets up unharmed.

"Talk to me White, can you move it at all?"
I attempt to move my ankle in a circle only to double over in pain "No" I say through gritted teeth. Brooke comes running over to my side and her and Coach Kyle pick me up and bring me to the bench. "I'm calling an ambulance, Brooke get some ice" Coach Kyle says, Brooke gets the ice and returns back to the field finishing off the last five minutes. We won 2-0 and the girls all rush off the field asking if I'm okay, after reassuring the team I'm fine the ambulance comes and the paramedics lift me up on the stretcher. "Wait" I say before they wheel me away "Brooke will you come with?" Brooke is the closest thing I have to family now. My mom died ten years ago from a car accident and my dad now thinks of me as a human punching bag, Brooke knows everything and is basically a sister.
"Of course" She says and grabs our bags. We climb into the ambulance and drive to the hospital in silence, it smells due to my and Brooke's sweaty jerseys and it doesn't help when they remove the cleat of my injured ankle. We finally arrive at the hospital and I am taken into a room. Brooke keeps assuring me I'm fine and will be back on the field in no time but you can hear the fear laced through her voice. An older man walks in the room "I'm doctor Stevens, mind me asking a couple questions?" I nodded a yes, his final one caught me off guard and I answered without thinking
"Where are your parents so we can contact them?"
"My mom is dead and my dad's probably off doing a drug deal high off his own ass" I froze. Shit I wasn't supposed to say that.

"What was that about your father?" Doctor Stevens eyed me intensely
I sighed "Nothing" I mumble
"Savannah"
He goes nothing "My dad is a drug dealer, normally comes home late high or drunk. When he's high he leaves me alone, when he's drunk I'm basically a human punching bag"
"Where is your father now?"
"Probably at home drinking, waiting for me to come home and make dinner"
"Miss White I must notify the police on this"
"You can't!" I panick
"Why not?" He looks extremely confused
"If you arrest him I'll have nowhere to go" I say shyly
"Savannah you will not be left on the streets, I can assure you that. You father is a bad man and needs to be in jail. Now as for your ankle, you will be needing crutches for about three weeks and I suggest you don't play soccer for about four" my heart dropped and he walked out of the room. Brooke and I sat there mostly in silence until a nurse comes in with crutches and a police officer is waiting to take me to the station. Once we get there a female officer greets me. "Hi Savannah, I'm Officer Peyton" she then takes me to her office
"Hi" I greet with a forced smile "This is my best friend Brooklyn Peirce"
She smiles at Brooke then turns back to me "Savannah do you have any scars from your dad?"
"Yes" I say and she motions for me to show her and I did. I showed her the ones on my neck from beer bottles to the one on my stomach where he once stabbed me. After writing a few things on a notepad she looks up at me.
"Savannah if you don't mind I would like to talk to you in private" She turns to Brooke "If you don't mind going with officer Dylan" she points towards the door where a good looking guy that can only be a year or two older than us is waiting, he gives Brooke a smirk and Brooke smile widens
"No not at all" Brooke says looking directly at the man "I'll be waiting for you when you're done Savvy" She walks towards Officer Dylan shooting me a quick thumbs up before leaving
"So Savannah" Officer Peyton starts "Your dad is going to jail, for a long time"
"I figured" I mumbled under my breath
"Yes and now that leads us to you. We have gone through your file and it has shown no close relatives"
"Yeah well no one really wants a broken teenager" I sighed "I'm an orphan, a broken, teenage orphan"
"No Savannah you aren't an orphan"
I raised an eyebrow accusingly "Well I have nowhere to go so that kinda makes me an orphan"
"Savannah we looked in your mom's will to see if there was anything about a guardian in case something were to happen and it turns out there is. You will now be going to live with her high school best friend Lauren Court and her family. She was more than happy to take you, someone does want you honey"

Noli Me Tank in a Mall
Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo are important cultural works that ignited the Philippine Revolution against Spain. They are novels that exposed to the populace the abuses and the injustices of their Spanish colonial rulers, the hypocrisy of their priests, and inherent cruelty of their class structure over the powerless masses. Unfortunately, they rose up in the middle of the Spanish-American War, one which saw Spain lose most of their overseas colonies and decisively end as a World Power. The war ended in the 1898 Treaty of Paris, in which Spain also sold the Philippines to the USA for the sum of twenty million dollars. The revolutionary government was then crushed by the overwhelming military might of the United States and the Philippines turned into a territory. While the Philippines stands as the USA's greatest successes in nation-building, their early occupation left almost one-fifth of the population dead from combat and disease. Jose Rizal was executed by the Spanish long before knowing what might happen to his country. The world presented within The Noli and the El Fili is therefore stuck frozen in time, forever caught in that moment before a Revolution. Now let's see what happens to this nation if we give it the Light Novel treatment and jam the entirety of the Internet into their protagonist's skull and watch him try to fix things with his unfortunate tendency to sound like a supervillain. Updates Mondays and Fridays. Note: The Noli and El Fili have been public domain since 1946. This is completely fair game.
