《Love & Business》Heir

I woke up and got dressed. I didn't feel like dressing up today so I threw on an old uniform. I heard my stomach growl and headed downstairs. I hadn't been eating regularly for the past few days because I'm still trying to adjust to my new schedule.
"Good morning Mrs. Lodge."
"Good morning Ms. Turner."
"Good morning Mr. Lodge," she said with a smile.
"Morning," he replied dryly.
"I made you guys breakfast. I hope you don't mind."
Hunter and I both looked at each other then at her.
"That's well above your paygrade Ms. Turner," Hunter said.
"Think of it as a late wedding gift."
I hugged her. "Thank you, Ms. Turner," I said then went to eat.
We sat and ate. Things felt a little awkward from last night. I wasn't mad at him or anything but he could've at least said something or maybe I shouldn't have overshared.
"You should come down with me this morning," he said.
"Why?"
"To reduce the carbon footprint. You are supposed to spend the day at my office anyway."
I knew Hunter. He didn't care about carbon footprint, he owned 8 cars.
"Okay fine."
"Good, let's go."
"I haven't even finished eating my-"
"Walk with it," he said then walked out.
He always makes sure he gets the last say, doesn't he? I picked up my bag then walked to the car. I got in and he drove off.
"About last night..." he started.
"Hunter, please. I don't want to go back there."
"I'm putting up Buddy for adoption."
I turned to him. "What? Hunter if you're doing that for me-"
"I'm not. I don't have time anymore to take care of a dog."
He was doing it for me. If he wasn't, he would've made one of his many workers take care of the dog.

"Whatever you say, Hunt."
"Would you stop calling me that?"
"Would you stop hating me and finally forgive me?"
He didn't answer. "Alright, I guess you have your answer then."
The rest of the ride was dead silent. We came out of the elevator and I followed behind him. Some of the employees waved and smiled at me while the others kept their heads down.
He sat in his chair while I sat on the sofa.
His assistant knocked then opened the door. "Mr. Lodge, your 9 o'clock appointment is here."
"Thank you, Selena. Let him in."
She gave me a disgusted look and then left.
"I can't believe you slept with your assistant Hunter. It's so unprofessional." I said as I looked at my nails.
His face turned pale. So it is true. I was just guessing because she was being way too territorial for just an assistant but now his reaction confirmed it.
He was going to say something but his appointment walked in.
"Mr. Lodge." he shook Hunter's hand then came to me. "I am Mr. Quinn. Nice to meet you, Mrs. Lodge."
"Nice to meet you too Mr. Quinn."
Hunter offered Mr. Quinn a partnership for a small project he wanted to work on. I had nothing to do with it other than to sign off on it. The meeting finished quickly due to the fact that Mr. Quinn just agreed with everything Hunter said and didn't add any remarks of his own. Hunter was offering money that seemed like millions to him.
It was now just Hunter and I alone again in his office.
"How did you know about Selena and I?" he asked.
"Hunter, it's obvious."
He narrowed his eyes but stayed quiet.
"But are you still doing it though?" I tried not to sound jealous because I'm not. I'm just curious and want to make sure he's not making a fool out of me.

"When would I have the time to do anything when you're constantly annoying me?"
"But would you? Technically we aren't really together."
He ignored the question and went on his computer. "Hunter answer the question."
He looked at me then sighed. "I'm not a cheater so no."
Hearing him say that actually made me feel a little relieved.
"What about you? Any secret boyfriends I should know about?"
"Why? You want to know if you have any competition?"
"No, I just would rather hear it from you than finding out from the internet."
"Well, I'm not a cheater either so no."
I saw a smile on his face for a second then it was gone.
Selena knocked then came in. "Both of your dads are outside waiting."
Hunter looked at me. "Did you know they were coming?"
I shook my head. "I thought they went to The Bahamas."
"Let them in Selena," Hunter said as he ran a hand through his hair. We haven't even reached halfway through the day and he already looked exhausted.
"Hello, my children!" John said as he walked in with my dad.
"What are you guys doing here?" Hunter asked kind of rudely.
"Did you forget who owns this business?" John said.
"And did you forget that you're retired?" Hunter roared back.
Mr. Lodge shut his mouth as he gave Hunter a death glare. They were clearly mad at each other. My dad definitely picked up on something as well since he stepped in.
"Alright John, how about we do what we came here to do."
"Which is?" I asked.
"To talk about your future," he said as he and John came and sat in the chairs.
"What future?" Hunter asked while he sat down next to me.
"Well, you two can't be the CEOs forever."
"Dad don't start this again. I already said no." Hunter said looking highly annoyed.
"What are you guys talking about?" I was completely in the dark.
"You two need a heir. Mr. Bass and I just want to make sure the business will still be operated by the bloodline in the future after we're gone."
I turned to Hunter. "You knew about this and didn't tell me?"
"I didn't tell you because we're not having a kid. End of story."
"Well, that's not just your decision to make Hunter," I said.
He looked at me as if I had just said the stupidest thing. He stood up. "You three can go and plan to have a kid but it won't be mine," he said then walked out.
"Don't worry about Hunter. He's just scared that he wouldn't be a good dad. I was too and Hunter turned out pretty okay to me. All you have to do is convince him." John said before he followed Hunter.
"I can't believe you're going along with this," I said to my dad.
"When you were little, I use to always have to buy you baby dolls. You cleaned them, fed them, and even sang to them. You cried when we told you that you can't have a real baby as yet. What changed?"
I stayed quiet because deep down inside, I knew I still wanted a baby.
"I want to be a grandpa before I die. You out of all people you should know that life isn't promised. Just think about it pumpkin but don't take too long." he kissed me on the forehead then left.
