Suddenly the door burst open making me and Leo jump in our place. Valentino entered the room with Kai behind him. He looked at both of us before his eyes trailed down to my hand where Leo's knives were, he raised an eyebrow and turned to Leo.
"Why does she have your knives?" He asked stepping closer to us while Kai jumped on his bed.
"He gave them to me." I responded furrowing my eyebrows.
He clenched his fist and turned to look at me with a stern look. "I wasn't talking to you."
"Bu-"
"Shut it."
I narrowed my eyes and pressed my lips together.
"Okey." Leo interfered walking in between both of us, "How about you both stop arguing and start packing." Leo suggested tilting his head.
"Were leaving tonight at 10." Valentino blankly said walking to his bed and laying down with one leg laying lazily and the other hanging off the bed. He looked at me, "and you better be ready by then or I'm leaving you here."
I scoffed and sat on the floor crossing my legs and started thinking about how my life has been flipped. To me hacking then to me being kidnapped and now I'm here, about to go on a mission to destroy the Russian mafia. What would my mother say? Oh, God.
I stared at the knives and started flipping them in my hands bored, Leo was putting his clothes in a suitcase. Kai was just laying in his bed and Valentino was just starting at his phone. I sighed and flipped the knife higher and when it started to come back down, I nearly caught it, almost cutting myself in the process.
"That's not how you do it." His deep voice said making close my eyes irritated.
"Really? I would've never guessed." I sarcastically said with a wide smile on my face.
"Passami il coltello" He said irritated pressing his thumb and index finger on the corner of his eyes.

"Huh?"
"Pass me the fottuto knife." He growled looking at me with his grey eyes. I groaned and threw the knife to which it landed on top of his head on the headboard. The headboard slightly shook and he clenched his jaw making his jawline stand out and I glared.
He reached out and pulled the knife out of the wooden headboard and he started flipping it with his rough hands and each time he elevated the knife higher. He suddenly threw it in the air and when it was mid-air he kicked it with his leg making the knife go bolting towards Leo as it whizzed on top of his head and implant itself on the wall.
My eyes widened as I stared in shock and amazement but I quickly composed my self and stared like it didn't amaze me at all seconds ago.
I hummed and walked towards the knife pulling it out the wall, I looked at Leo expecting him to be a bit shocked or at least finding a reaction. "How are you not fazed?" Such a fucking dumb question, Athena.
He paused folding his clothes and looked at me as he shrugged. "I'm used to it."
I hummed sitting down again on the floor. I stared at my hands and just started fidgeting with them. "You can sit in my bed if you want." I heard Leo say. I rose my head to find him already looking at me. I nodded and muttered a thanks before walking over to him and sitting down next to him on his bed.
He started folding his clothes again and I decided If I should help him or not. "Need help?" I asked looking at his side profile. His blue eyes turned to me and he fanned his dirty blonde hair out of the way.
"Yeah but if you don't what to do it, it's fine re-" He started rambling making me pat his shoulder.

"Its fine, really." I said grabbing one of his shirts and started folding it.
I heard a scoff and both me and Leo raised our heads towards Valentino who was looking at both of us with narrowed eyes, but more specifically at me. As soon as our eyes met he went back to his phone.
"What?" I asked him.
He raised his head and looked at me for a second but he went back to his phone. "Nothing."
"Doesn't sound like it." Kai muttered making Valentino's head snap to him. Valentino groaned throwing his head back and ran a hand through his hair frustrated.
"Non ricominciare con questa merda." Valentino growled looking at Kai. Kai didn't even raise his head to look at him but instead he was still laying on his bed with his front downwards.
We could here Kai chuckle and he started picking at his curly hair, "Damn, Rilassati, non stavo parlando di Melissa o altro."
I stayed cluelessly folding the clothes and from how Leo tensed, he understood what they were saying. Well of course, they're Italians.
I paused and scrunched my eyebrows. They mentioned the name Melissa. That same name was carved into Valentino's gun. She must be his sister or someone related to him, someone special. I wasn't going to ask who she was, it isn't my business. I know how it feels for people to ask about that specific person and considering how her name was carved into his gun meant she is special to him.
Suddenly Valentino stood up and stormed out the room clenching his jaw and fists. I raised an eyebrow and started folding clothes again but Leo didn't seem to have calmed down by what they said. His Adam's apple was bobbing up and down and his eyes were getting watery.
"You should go outside to the fresh air if you're not feeling well." I sighed looking at his side profile. His frown broke into a small sad smile as he turned his head to look at me.
"Thanks for not saying 'Are you ok?' because that really pisses me off." He chuckled but it slowly died down leaving me not knowing what to say. "You remind me of someone I wish I met." He sighed resting his head low.
My brows furrowed as I stopped folding the clothes. "What do you mean?"
He turned to me with his blue eyes that were swirling with sadness and frustration. "It's a story my mom told me since I was young but that's for another time." He croaked out.
I hummed folding the last piece of clothing and setting it into his suitcase. "Uh, I was wondering how long I'll stay with you guys?"
"I heard until we finish the mission but to finish this mission it may take weeks or even months."
"Months? What about my college!?" I asked surprised. Even though I didn't like going to college I was going for my future, I wasn't planning to stay old and live with cats. I was planning to become a CEO of some sort.
He sighed and looked at me in pity, "You shouldn't worry about that, Lincoln will take care of that. You should rest." He paused taking his phone out of his jeans. "It's 9:30pm and we'll leave around 1am."
"Why so late?"
"Because the road will be free from cars." He walked towards the door and paused. "You can sleep in my bed if you'd like. I don't mind and thanks for you're advice. I'll use it."
I smiled and nodded, then for the first time all the panic I felt inside vanished and I let myself go into a deep slumber.

War is coming - And when it comes - And where it comes - And whence it comes - The living shall envy the dead One to carry their sword in the name of their goddess and lady, to protect their land and people against the threat of the wicked. They know their path to be the righteous one. One to roam the land, hunting for all apparitions, and be scorned by man and beast alike. They know their path to be an arduous one. One to wander the realm in search of power, to protect themselves and what they believe in. They know their path to be the only one. Writers note: The first chapter will set the standard in terms of mood for the remainder of the story. It also comes to no surprise to me that half the people who read the first part stop reading any further. It has quite a bit of the good ‘ol ‘ultra-violence’ mixed with a great deal of realism. As much as I could fit into it from my own knowledge and experience in the elite forces. The first few chapters will be slow, after, but starting from ‘Restless Destroyer’ the remainder of the world will start to open up, and when we hit ‘Adronitis’ the prologue is largely finished. The novel is well thought out and filled with hidden lore, culture, history. So even if my word choice appears random – it’s not. There is a reason why these chapters take as long as they do. Vermodalen is fantasy adventure, with magic and heroics in an as realistic setting as I could fit. Things are rarely what they seem, and the ugly nature of people bleed through the letters at the turn of every page. I hope you can give this story a fair chance, even if it isn’t immediately to your taste. Lastly, english isn't my first language. It isn't my second one either. So, if you find errors in grammer and spelling, wordplay and sentance building, do let me know, and you will be rewarded by a surge of dopamine that will be released inside your brain for helping someone whom you haven't even seen or heard.

8 241Midnight Origins: Arrival
On a lush planet known as Bhar, Verun is now the leading nation in the development of the rivaled schools of Magic and Science. Having brought forth an era of peace and prosperity for themselves through the development of Magitech, The High council was eager to spread their knowledge and beliefs to the furthest reaches of the continent, with the goal of ending senseless conflicts and prioritizing advancements in Magitech and improving the quality of life. This ambition, however, is not without opposition. Most followers side with one school or another, believing it is superior in nature. This conflict dates back to the very beginning of civilization itself, where it is believed by both sides that their gods descended from the heavens, bestowing upon them the knowledge that would bring the world into a new age. And though some took great interest in their differences, others would seek to convert each other through any means necessary. That being the case, The High council, leaders of Verun, had made the necessary preparations to handle threats and attempt diplomacy between the remaining opposers. Talented volunteers were hand chosen to be among the military, tasked with protecting the nation from both internal and external threats. And although non-biological creations have improved quality of life, they are not yet capable of replacing the military. The necessary research and development for such a thing was thought to be decades away, until Councilman Eranor encountered an anomaly in his facility…
