《What I Want ✔》Chapter 36

I was all set to leave. Haden had already gone to work and I was prepared to go meet Xavier. While Haden was showering earlier, I managed to get Xavier's number off his phone.
I took a cab and while I was traveling I decided to call him.
The phone rang but he never answered. That's strange I guess he's probably busy.
The only person's number I have is Haden's. I had no other friends so it's not like I could hang out somewhere. I sighed and thought about what I could do. Then it hit me and I realised that the only way to find Xavier is to go to Haden's company. I knew it was risky but it was worth the try.
I put on my hat and walked into the company. The secretary smiled when she saw me.
"Mr. Vanderbilt is here today. He's in his office." She said immediately.
"No no, that's not necessary. I was sort of hoping that you would give me some information about Xavier Vanderbilt, Haden's brother."
"He doesn't work here but he is part of the company. He is more responsible for construction. He is currently constructing a new building. I'll give you an address to his workplace."
"Thank you, I appreciate that."
She scribbled down the address and passed it to me.
"Thanks again."
"You're welcome." She called as I left.
I reached the address in 15 minutes. There was a woman with auburn hair sitting there.
"Yes, can I help you?" She questioned rudely. What's her problem?
"I'm looking for Xavier Vanderbilt."
"He isn't here yet. By the way, Do you have an appointment?"
"No I don't but-
"Then this is a complete waste of time." She snarled as she typed away.
"But I really need to find him."
"Not my problem. The exit is over there." She pointed and I rolled my eyes.
I walked out of the building. Well it's not like he was in anyway.
Walking along the road, a woman bumped into me and all of her files scattered.
"Here, let me help." I said as I picked up the papers and passed them to her.
"Thank you very much." She smiled as she took them. I realised that she worked for Haden. She was the woman Haden had yelled at.
"I know you work for Haden. Do you happen to know where his brother Xavier lives?" I questioned.
"Um yeah. I have his address." She scrolled through her phone and gave it to me.

"Thank you soo much."
"Wait, what are you to Haden? I saw you with him. She stated.
"I'm his wife." I replied and a look of confusion washed over her.
"What? Really? What's your name?"
"I'm Aubrey. I really have to run so maybe we could chat some other time." I didn't wait for her response as I darted off and took a cab to the address.
I got to the neighborhood in 20 minutes. It was really beautiful. There were so many villas and they were all soo pretty. I pulled up in front his house and got out of the cab.
I knocked on the door and rang the doorbell but no one came out.
Turning the doorknob, I realised that it was open. I walked inside the house and looked around. It was beautiful with the art pieces hanging up.
"Xavier! Xavier are you there?" I called out to him but got no response.
I walked upstairs and went into a room. There was a king sized bed in the middle of the room that was made perfectly. What if he never came home at all?
There were pictures on his nightstand of his family. I looked at one that was of Haden and Xavier hugging each other. They were around 5 years old in that picture and they were absolutely adorable.
I walked downstairs and saw a woman standing there.
"Good morning. I didn't know that Mr. Vanderbilt had a guest. Can I make you anything? I'm Kate, his maid." She smiled. She looked around 30 years old.
"No it's fine. I was looking for Xavier actually."
"When I came here to clean up last night, he wasn't here. I thought he would have been back by this morning."
"So he never came home?"
"I'm afraid not."
"Well thank you for your information."
"You're welcome. If he shows up here, I will let you know." We exchanged numbers and I left.
I decided to return home and call it a day since he was nowhere to be found.
I took a long shower and changed into some shorts and a T-shirt. I walked downstairs and decided to watch some TV.
I was halfway through the show when I heard a sound. I muted the TV and listened carefully. The sound was muffled but it sounded like it was emanating from the basement.
I ran upstairs to find the keys but Haden had already moved them.
'Damn it.' What the hell is wrong with him?

Knowing Haden, where could he possibly have hidden it?
I searched the entire room and eventually found it under the rug.
I ran downstairs and opened the door to the basement. My heart dropped at the sight and I felt sick to my stomach.
Xavier was sitting on floor. His hands and feet were tied up and his mouth was gagged.
I removed the gag and touched his face. There was dried blood on his forehead.
He took a deep breath and looked at me.
"Aubrey, you have to believe me. Haden isn't who you think he is." He sighed.
"I'm starting to see that now."
"Instead of talking to me, he knocked me out and dragged me to the basement."
"Why would he do such a thing?"
"Because he's despicable, he is sick and twisted. He actually took you and had everyone thinking you were dead." He explained while I untied his hand.
"That's awful."
"Aubrey look out." Xavier yelled but it was too late.
I felt a cold metal collide with my head and I lost consciousness.
We went to Xavier's house early but he wasn't there. Caleb was now with us.
"I think we should inform Haden of this." Caleb suggested.
"Yeah. I think that's our best option." Nicholas added.
We drove to Haden's company and went in. I realised that he changed up the place a lot and it looked pretty good.
He was sitting behind his desk when we entered.
"What can I do for you?" He smiled as he greeted us.
"We were looking for Xavier. Thought we might inform you. I think he's missing or something." Caleb said and Haden's eyes widened.
"What? He's probably out of the country or something." Haden stated.
"I highly doubt it. He asked us to meet yesterday but he didn't show up." Nicholas pointed out.
"That is a bit strange. But I doubt it's anything to worry about though. He probably went out drinking. You guys know how he is." Haden chuckled.
"Aren't you the tiniest bit concerned about him?" I asked and Haden stared at me.
"I am concerned. He is my brother after all. But I'm telling you all that you shouldn't be worried about it. Just go back to your lives. Next thing you know he's coming back from Vegas or something. I'm sure he's fine. Now, I should really get going. I have somewhere to be."
I stared at Haden, something was off about him. He was acting different.
"Haden I don't think-
"It's fine. You're right. We should go guys." I cut off Caleb.
We walked out of his office and stood outside.
"I'm gonna use the washroom. I'll meet you guys downstairs."
After using the washroom I washed my hands and walked outside. I heard sobs from a room and I walked in. It was Haden's assistant, well girlfriend, since he was dating her. I think her name is Camille.
"Um, are you okay?" I questioned and she spun around. Her makeup was smudged.
"I'm f-fine." She stuttered.
"It sure doesn't seem that way. You're Camille right?"
"Yes I'm Camille and you're Vincent." She wiped her tears and I nodded.
"What's wrong? Did Haden do something to you?" I questioned.
She looked unsure. She opened her mouth a few times and closed it. It looked like she was debating on whether she should tell me or not.
"I know how Haden is. I know how he can be sometimes. Did you guys breakup?"
She took a deep breath.
"We didn't break up. At least not yet. I found out that he has a wife."
"What? Haden doesn't have a wife."
"Yes he does. I met her. She has short blonde hair."
"Are you sure?"
"Yes I'm sure." She sobbed.
"I have to see this for myself. I have no idea where he lives."
"I have his address. This explains why he never once invited me to his home." She sighed as she wrote down the address.
"Thank you. This will work out. Don't worry about it." I smiled and left the office.
I met the guys in the car waiting for me.
"What took you soo long?" Nicholas asked.
"I think something's going on. You know how he is dating his assistant right. Well turns out he has a 'wife'."
"What? Who told you that?" Caleb inquired.
"Camille, his assistant. She gave me his address."
"I say we have enough time to check out this mystery woman." Nicholas smirked.
"I agree. Haden never cease to amaze me. That guy is always doing something." Blake sighed.
"Why did he act like he doesn't care about Xavier? It's like it doesn't matter that his brother is missing."I stated.
"He's definitely hiding something." Caleb added.
"I feel the same way. Let's swing by his place." Nicholas suggested and I nodded.
I started the engine and followed the address.
Haden Vanderbilt what could you possibly be hiding?
