"Bye Haden." I pecked his lips and sent him off to work. He smiled warmly at me and left.
As soon as he was gone. I decided to check the basement again. However, I was stopped short in my tracks as I realised it now had a lock on the door. I ran to the room we shared to look for the key.
'It has to be here somewhere.' I thought frantically as I searched.
Opening his drawer I searched through his socks. Eventually I found the silver key that would fit perfectly. I didn't know he was this serious about shutting me out.
I opened the basement and went through the boxes. I found other stuff such as photos of me when I had my memory. There was a photo of Haden and I at our wedding. It was similar to the one on my nightstand. We rarely had photos together . He told me that we have been to a lot of places but when the accident happened my phone was destroyed and all of our pictures were lost.
I stumbled upon a box filled with pictures of Haden and Vincent. There was a range of photos from when they were younger and there were other guys as well. It was the six of them. The picture was really blurred so I couldn't really see their faces properly.
I'm sure they were alive. I'm Haden's wife, therefore I must have met them at some point. They could have pieces of my past. How can I connect to them? I have the feeling that Haden was trying to hide me from my past. I don't know what was going on and I'm starting to question everything. Why don't they ever visit, if they were his friends? Why doesn't he ever call them? Were they not on good terms?
But I trust Haden. He was the only one here for me. Maybe I should just drop all of this. Haden is my only family. Afterall, he did take care of me. As I was packing the boxes, I found a picture with a broken frame. It was Haden and a blonde girl. Were they lovers in that past? Was that his ex-girlfriend? She was really beautiful. They looked so happy together. I didn't know how to feel about this. I wasn't really hurt. Should I be hurt seeing them like this?

Some part of me felt like I've seen this picture before. I felt a light pain in my head. So I put back the photo and left.
I put the keys where I found them and sat alone. So much thoughts ran through my mind.
I knew where Haden was working. Maybe I should pay him a visit. I'm sure he would be happy to see me. I took a shower and got dressed. I brushed my shoulder length hair and wore some shades. When I first cut my hair, I missed it but I guess I grew into in. Haden insisted I dyed it blonde which I did.
I took a deep breath, this is the furthest I'll be going for the first time in years. I had to walk all the way out the road then wait for a cab. Fifteen minutes later I was on my way to Haden's building.
"Haven't seen you around here before." The driver glanced at me in the mirror as I was sitting in the back.
"Oh I don't go out much." I chuckled and he nodded.
A couple minutes later, I arrived at Haden's workplace.
I walked into the building and greeted the secretary. She looked at me with a smile.
"Hi, can I help you?" She asked politely.
"I'm here to see Haden Vanderbilt."
"Sorry, you just missed him."
"Do you know where he went?"
"I'm afraid not."
"Alright, thank you for your time." I smiled and left.
I went to Starbucks and bought a latte. I sat and drank it while I thought about what I should do next.
I really don't wanna call him. I knew he'd be upset.
"Is this seat taken?" A handsome redhead smiled as he sat opposite me.
"No it's not." He sat opposite me and took out his laptop. He looked frustrated. I took off my shades and put them on the table.
He stared at me and I quickly looked away.
"Is something the matter?" I muttered and he shook his head.
"No, it's fine. I just thought of something that was practically impossible. You kind of look familiar." He smiled. Suddenly, my head began to hurt.
"Oh I see. Well, I've got to run." I grabbed my purse and left.
I took deep breaths as I walked along the streets. The throbbing in my temple wouldn't stop. I held on to the wall for support.
"Hey, are you okay?" That voice I've heard it before. It felt soo warm and caring.
"I'm fine. Thank you."
Looking up, I saw him, Vincent. He is alive. Or maybe I'm mistaken.

"Sir, we really need to go or you'll be late for your meeting." A woman beside him said.
"Oh yes, let's go." He smiled at me and left.
I wanted to follow him, so I did. At a safe distance ofcourse. He went into a building that had McKnight Co. written on it.
So, this is where he works. Maybe I could pay him a visit. That is if he would want to see me. Heck, I don't even know that it if he was actually Vincent.
Haden was probably back at his workplace. It would make complete sense to check.
A couple minutes later, I arrived there.
I spoke to the secretary again but she shook her head once more. I know he is a busy man but where the hell was he?
Walking out of the building, I bumped into someone.
"Aubrey. What are you doing here?" Haden whispered frantically.
"I came to surprise you, silly." I smiled.
"Look, we are going home now!"
"Haden, are you okay?" A woman asked as she walked up to him.
"I'm fine. I need you to go run some copies of the file on my desk."
"But Haden I-
"Do it now!" He barked and she scurried away.
"You ought to be nicer to your employees." I poked his chest and he chuckled.
"Let's go." We got into his car and left.
"Where are we going?" I inquired.
"Home."
"What? I wanna do something fun Haden. I can't stay in that house forever."
"I know but it's just not the right time."
"When exactly is the right time?"
"Aubrey, I've been wanting to tell you something. I want us to move."
"We're moving? No, I don't want to."
"All I have are bad memories here and I just want us to start our lives over." He argued.
"Can I atleast get to think about this?"
"Sure, but we're moving in a week."
"You can't be serious! That's too sudden. Don't you think? I mean there's your company and everything."
"Don't worry about that. I have that under control."
"What about your parents?"
"They disapprove of our marriage, remember? So it's best we stay away from them."
"Oh yeah. But you didn't explain why they didn't like me. Did I offend them or something?"
"No Aubrey. You're from a poor family and my parents didn't think you were good enough for me."
"Wow. I'm sorry I ruined your relationship with your parents." I sighed.
"You didn't Aubrey."
"It sure sounds that way."
"Could you just drop it Ivory!" He yelled.
"Ivory?"
"What?"
"You just called me Ivory."
"I didn't."
"Yes you did. Who is Ivory?"
"Someone I use to know."
"Was she your girlfriend? Before we were married?"
"No, she was my friend. She was a little hard headed and stubborn just like you."
"Was?"
"Yes. She is in jail now. So she's practically dead to me."
"Oh, what did she go to jail for?"
"It doesn't matter. I don't wanna talk about it."
"That's fine."
"Aubrey, I want you to know that I love you soo much. You mean the world to me."
I couldn't say it back to him. Not yet. My mind was in a frenzy. Who was this Ivory? What did she do that landed her in jail? Is she the girl in the photo I found earlier? I have soo many unanswered questions.
I looked out the window as we drove home, I was thinking about Vincent. I don't know why but there was something about him that just made me feel different.
We arrived home shortly after but Haden had to leave because he got a call from the office.
I was home alone once again. This time he warned me not to leave.
If that guy was really Vincent then that meant Haden lied to me. But why would he lie about something like that? It just doesn't make sense. It's baffles me.
I stood in front of the mirror. This wasn't me. That blonde hair, it just isn't who I am. It's like I was hiding myself from the world. But Haden loves it so I'm gonna keep it this way.
There was a knock on the door.
Who could that be? We never have visitors.
I rushed downstairs and opened the door. I almost thought it was Haden. The guy standing there could practically be his twin.
"Hey, is Haden here? I'm soo lucky I found his address."
"No, he isn't home."
He looked at me intently. He strode up and I took a step back. His lips quivered a bit and he took me in his arms.
"Oh my gosh. I can't believe this."
"What's going on?" I asked puzzled.
"Aubrey, it's me, Xavier. You're alive." He cheered.
What in the world did he mean by that?

The Simulacrum
"He who fights with harem tropes should see to it that he himself does not become a harem protagonist. And if you gaze for long into a narrative, the narrative gazes also into you." --- Friedrich Nietzsche (probably?) How would you react if one day you woke up inside an environment running on tropes and clichés? For allegedly average high-schooler Leonard Dunning, this question became quite relevant when one day he woke up in a pristine city on a strange island in the middle of the Atlantic, without any memories, surrounded by classmates who are barely more than characterless placeholders, and with a classic indecisive harem protagonist and his impossibly beautiful love interests for friends. That would be hard to deal with already, yet his investigation into the tropes governing the world, trying to avoid harem shenanigans, and his odd blend of outside-context knowledge, unique abilities, and a penchant for causing trouble wherever he goes ends up dragging him into the center of the action anyway. Disclaimer: This is a tongue-in-cheek, slice of life romantic comedy, with occasional sprinkles of combat and mystery to spice things up. Please do not expect a straight up deconstruction beyond some in-universe meta-commentary by the characters.

The Stormcrow Cycle
Once a powerful and lauded witch, Ba'an salu-Ba'an now lives alone in a cave in the desert, waiting to die. When she rescues an outlander from certain death she becomes embroiled in a deadly game of politics and empire, of heart and soul, but worst of all--of hope and love and a chance at a peaceful future. Can a disgraced witch find a reason to live her life again--and if so, what price must she pay? The Stormcrow Cycle is a trilogy comprising of The Exile, The Lion, and Abomination. Tags or genres for each book: The Exile: romance, slice-of-life The Lion: romance, slice-of-life, politics Abomination: tragedy, high/epic fantasy (aka "Everything is on fire!") Updates once a week whenever I have time. Cross-posted on Wattpad and Scribble Hub. The CBMokedi cover will return! Excerpt: She looked down at him again. Young. Healthy, from what she could see, except for the wound that was killing him. He was handsome in a way that suggested a life of wealth and plenty. She did not think he had ever starved. Someone important. Her shadow fell across him, and he frowned. Blearily, he opened his eyes. They were amber and bright, even as he lay dying in the dirt. She could feel his soul, blazing inside of him like a fire refusing to die even as his body began to fail. He met her gaze, eyes widening in what she guessed was surprise—or shock. But he never looked away, staring up at her as though transfixed. Ba’an made her decision. She raised her hand and covered his eyes. In another moment, a murder of crows cawed as they took wing. The man and woman were gone from the road, leaving only the dead staring up into the sky. Note: This is a high-fantasy set in a low-magic world. The first book is largely character-driven and we really only hit the real plot in Book II, so if you're not fond of long epic yarns you ought to skip this one. I also don't include trigger warnings, but mind the "traumatizing content" tag--all societies minus one practice slavery and the world is indeed, rather grim!
