《What I Want ✔》Chapter 33

Vincent
It's been over two years since Aubrey's accident and I still hadn't gotten over her. I still love her just the same and I knew that would never change. Damien was now 3 years old and I made sure and kept the memory of Aubrey alive to him. He often looked at the pictures of her and mumbled 'Momma'. It broke my heart everytime.
I dropped him off at preschool everyday before I headed to work. I didn't even bother dating other people. It wouldn't matter. I still want Aubrey.
Everyone grew distant. Most of them moved out of town and did other things. Emma moved to an entirely different country. Aubrey was like the glue that held us all together and now that she was gone things fell apart.
I rarely saw Haden but when I did he would have this look on his face. He looked tired and frustrated. We barely spoke. It was awkward. We both played huge roles in Aubrey's life. Besides I had no idea what to tell Haden or what we should talk about.
Last time I heard, he was dating his personal assistant. I was glad he moved on with his life.
As for the gang, we still kept in contact but we rarely get to hang out. Caleb opened 7 additional branches of his company. His first daughter is on the way.
Derek finally settled as well. He is visiting historical sites with his wife.
A baby boy was born to Alex a year ago. He is engaged and his wedding is next two months.
Nicholas on the other hand was getting pretty serious with his girlfriend Cassandra.
"Hey Vincent. I got your files for you." Julia smiled as she gave me the files. Julia has been working with me for the past two years.
"Thanks Julia."
"Hey, I was wondering maybe we could grab some dinner this evening."
"I'm busy."
"C'mon Vincent. Just one dinner. Besides you said that your son is spending time with your mom."
"Fine." I gave in. I could do with a break from all this work. I can't remember when I actually went to dinner with someone.
~
Julia was waiting for me. I noticed she had her blonde hair down. It reached a little past her shoulders. She had hazel eyes that were much more prominent because of the dress she was wearing. Her eyes are pretty but nothing compared to Aubrey's. I had no idea why I compared her to Aubrey. No one could measure up to her.

"You look nice." I stated as I walked over to her.
"Thank you." She blushed.
We went to a seafood restaurant and the evening was enjoyable. We mostly talked about work.
"I'm telling you I'll have to fire that guy. He's ridiculous." I shook my head and she nodded.
"Yeah Tony is the worse. He leaves all his assignments to pile up and then he complains. That guy is crazy."
"Plus he is never on time and does a sloppy job."
"I had to work with him for two months and it was the worst." She sighed.
We continued talking about random stuff and then we went for a stroll.
"Vincent this was nice. Thank you."
"You're welcome."
She leaned into me and I knew she wanted to kiss me but I couldn't let her. I stepped back and she stared at me confused.
"What's wrong?" She asked.
"Look Julia, my heart belongs to someone else."
"I'm sorry I misread the situation. I had no idea. She is really lucky to have a guy like you."
"She passed away two years ago."
"Oh I'm so sorry to hear that. You still love her."
"Yes I still love her. I can't move on."
"I understand. Thank you for tonight. I appreciate it."
I dropped her off at her home and went to the bridge Aubrey had crashed. I looked into the water. I stared at nothing in particular.
"Hey Vincent. Long time no see." Blake, Aubrey's brother said.
"Hey man. What brings you here?"
"I just came to reflect. It's still hard to believe she's gone."
I watched the water below and suddenly it hit me.
"Dude, let's go down to the river. I wanna check something out."
Blake looked confused but followed me anyway.
"Forgive me if I'm wrong. They said that the current swept her away. They searched this river throughly. Aubrey's dad paid for a special search for her body."
"What are you trying to say?"
"Don't you find it strange. Let's say the current really swept her away. Why did they find her purse? They even found her engagement ring but not her body? Something is terribly wrong about this."

"You're right. If the current is strong enough to sweep away a body. Shouldn't it be strong enough to sweep away the items?"
"Exactly. Not to mention that this river is always calm unless there is a storm."
"So there was no current, not in this area at least."
"And the water isn't very deep."
"Someone else was part of the equation because this isn't adding up."
"Alright even if someone is part of it. How do we even know if she is alive?"
"Because Aubrey wouldn't just die on me."
Aubrey
Haden and I have been living together for the past two years. He has treated me amazing and tried helping me get back my memories but nothing had worked. I won't say I'm in love with him but I believe I'm getting there.
However, something has been bothering me lately.
There is this song that keeps popping in my mind. I could sing it all day. It evokes this feeling inside of me.
"I'm lying on the moon
My dear, I'll be there soon
It's a quiet and starry place
Time's we're swallowed up
In space we're here a million miles away
There's things I wish I knew
There's no thing I'd keep from you
It's a dark and shiny place
But with you my dear
I'm safe and we're a million miles away
We're lying on the moon
It's a perfect afternoon
Your shadow follows me all day
Making sure that I'm
Okay and we're a million miles away"
I didn't tell Haden, I kept it to myself. After he told me he was the only I had I knew I would have to stay with him. He said that my parents died 5 years ago and I had no siblings.
I didn't know how to feel about all of this. I would have dreams of some guy. I felt like I've seen him before.
Haden had gone to work and I was bored alone at home.
I needed some candles for a dinner I'm gonna prepare tonight. Haden works soo hard and he is patient with me so I thought it would be nice to do something for him.
I went into the basement in hopes of finding candles.
There were lots of boxes that were unpacked. I searched through them one at a time. My breath caught in my throat as I took up a picture. It was the same guy that I saw in my dream. The exact same features. His hand was around Haden's shoulder and they were both smiling.
I was drawn to the picture, drawn to him. I kept the picture and decided to ask Haden about it. Maybe if I met this person I could figure out some of my past.
I didn't manage to find any candles so I just prepared dinner as normal.
Haden arrived home late as he usually would.
"This looks delicious Aubrey."
"Thanks."
While we ate I decided to show him the picture.
"Haden, who is this guy next to you?" His face paled and he looked like he had seen a ghost.
"Aubrey, that's Vincent, my friend."
"He looks so familiar. Like I had seen him somewhere before. Maybe I could meet him and-
"He's dead. I'm sorry."
"I had no idea."
"Aubrey you shouldn't be going through my stuff. Do you understand?"
"Yes."
"Good girl."
"I was thinking, maybe I should get a job."
"No! You aren't leaving this house. I work and I provide for you. That's enough."
"I'm cooped up here all day Haden. I have nothing to do."
"You wanna leave me. Is that it?"
"That's not true. I just want a little freedom."
"I can't lose you again. Damn it."
I was shocked at his words.
"When you crashed on that bridge and almost died. I couldn't bare the pain. So please don't do this to me again."
"Hey it's okay. I understand."
"It's for your own good baby."
"I know."
I went to bed after our conversation but I couldn't sleep. Something told me that Haden was hiding things from me. I have to know about that guy, Vincent.
I to know about him.
