《Come Back To Me, Kiwi.》Chapter 63 - Search and Find

We had come to the Island a few weeks after we got Splash. Rosalie was with us, enjoying the beautiful sun instead of the cold winter in Vancouver. Kiara had done an amazing job with the interior design for our building. We were launching the business soon. We already had clients lined up for landscaping and interior design and one for an architecture plan. It was really exciting. But for now, we had some free time to enjoy on the Island with everyone.

Theo had just left for the city. He needed to check on the animals and make sure they all had their food and then he was coming back to spend the weekend with us. But I took this golden opportunity to gather everyone in the living room. Everyone in our generation to be exact.

"What's going on?" Kiwi asked, petting Splash who was happily lounging on her lap.

"We're looking for Mabel. I'm done watching Theo sulk." I said.

"I thought you said that you'd never do anything without his permission." Arabella said.

"That applied except in cases where he's only hurting himself. Our birthday is coming up. Let's find her for him." I said.

"He's going to be so mad!" Evan said, rubbing the back of his neck.

"He doesn't have to know. Nobody tell him. Just keep it between us. Got it?" I said.

"Ok. And if we find her with a boyfriend... then what? He'll be mad if we tell him we looked and tell him what we found. And I can't not say anything and watch him suffer and find out himself." Gabriel said.

"She's not going to be with someone else. I know the girl. She was so madly in love. She's a really determined and committed girl." I said.

"Yeah. Except she herself hasn't tried reaching out." Remi said, shaking his head.

"Reaching out... how? How is she meant to reach out if your idiot of a cousin hasn't even made any social media accounts?!" I said.

"Ok... fair point." Remi nodded.

"I just don't want him to get mad... or hurt." Arabella said.

"Guys. I'm telling you... she's not with another guy. Mabel wouldn't do that to Theo." I said, feeling very confident.

"Everyone moves on eventually. It's been a long time..." Ava said hesitantly.

"I know Ava... but what happened with you was different." I said softly, having heard Ava's story.

"Sure, it was different. But she was probably more hurt by it... My situation was a complete disaster, but I could just be mad at the people involved. I didn't still love them like she did. She's probably not going to have a good reaction to this if she's anything like me." Ava said.

"Uhm... she's a lot like you... but a tad bit less serious." Evan said nervously.

"Evan you know she'd never move on. Sure she might be mad. But how can she be? It's not Theo's fault." I said.

"He should've looked for her already." Rosalie said.

"He should've. I agree. But she can't be mad because she didn't either. It wouldn't have been hard for her to at least find me or Evan. She knows us from back then and she knows we're inseparable." I said.

"He's not wrong." Evan told everyone.

"Guys listen to me, please. I know Theo the best out of all of you, and I dare say I know a lot about Mabel. Neither of them have moved on, it's impossible for her to have found someone that makes her feel the way Theo did." I said.

"Are you certain, Vidal?" Juliet asked.

"I'm completely certain. Let's find her for him! Please!" I said. "We have three months until our birthday, so please, let's go for it and bring her back on our birthday for him."

"Alright. If you're sure, I'm in." Ari said.

"So am I." Evan said.

"Me too." Rosalie agreed.

"I'm down to help." Micah nodded.

"I'll help!" Kiara giggled excitedly.

"Why not?" Ava shrugged.

"Alright." Gabriel nodded, leaning in to kiss his girlfriend.

"Of course I'm in, are you kidding me?!" Remi exclaimed, making Juliet chuckle.

"I'll help too." Juliet said.

"Great. Who's going to try to find her on Instagram? I asked.

"I'll do it. I just don't know what she looks like." Rosalie said.

"Just search for Mabel Cirigliano." I said. "Evan and I will recognize her. And that girl better not have cut her hair, Theo will throw a fit!"

That made Kiara chuckle.

"What's her last name?" Juliet asked, leaning over and watching Rosalie type.

"Cirigliano." I repeated.

"Woah... you're gonna have to spell that." Rosalie chuckled.

Evan laughed and helped her type it in.

"There she is!" He said, tapping on Rosalie's phone.

"Let me see!" Ari said, grabbing the phone.

She looked at the phone and scrolled through. Then her jaw dropped.

"No way! She's gorgeous!" Arabella said.

"Let me see!" Kiara said.

All the girls huddled around Rosalie who had reclaimed her phone and Rosalie followed her.

A few minutes later, Rosalie got a follow back and she immediately smiled.

"Wow! This is easier than I thought!" Rosalie said.

"We've found her! And we got a follow back in like five minutes!" I said happily, rubbing my hands together excitedly.

"We need to DM her, but she doesn't know you and doesn't know that you know us.... so we need to not be creepy, because she will block us with immediate effect if she thinks we're weird." I said.

"I like this girl." Ava chuckled.

"You're going to love her once you meet her." I laughed.

Mabel and Ava both had strong personalities, kind of like Aunt Em. But Mabel was a little softer at heart, just quite prone to smack you for the simplest of things.

"Alright... what should I say?" Rosalie asked.

"That is something I don't think I can help with." I said, chuckling nervously.

"Alright. Something normal... but probably don't just say hi." Evan said.

"Hi?! Don't say that... it's weird." Ari said. "Use hey instead."

"No. Hey makes it sound like you know her." Juliet said.

"True." Ari agreed.

"Uhm... Hello is just creepy though." Ava said.

"Agreed." Arabella laughed.

"What other variant of hi are you all going to overanalyze?" Remi laughed, looking at me in confusion.

"Howdy." Arabella laughed.

"Do not use howdy!" Ava said in horror.

We all burst out laughing at that and then we continued to brainstorm what we were going to say.

All of a sudden, Rosalie's phone made a sound. We all jumped up to look at it and Rosalie gasped.

"It's from her!" Rosalie said in shock.

"Oh wow. Mabel reaching out... this is strange." Evan said.

"It is." I agreed.

"What did she say?!" Kiara asked excitedly.

"Uhm... let's see." Rosalie said, opening the message.

M - Hey. I saw your follow request and when I followed you back I saw your profile... you're so pretty! Just wanted to say that and thank you for the follow, I guess.

"Wow. She's so nice!" Rosalie smiled.

"Consider yourself lucky. She's not nice to many people." Evan laughed, kissing Rosalie on the forehead.

Rosalie smiled and looked down at her phone.

"What should I say?" She asked.

"Answer the way you would normally answer someone who said that to you." I told her.

She nodded and started typing.

"Guys. Let's move to the theatre." I said.

We all got up and moved to the theatre and I help Rosalie hook her phone up to the large screen so we could all see what was going on.

We all read what Rosalie sent back to Mabel.

R - Thank you so much! You're also gorgeous! Thank you for following me back.

"Good. Do you think she'll say anything back?" Juliet asked.

"She will." I nodded, knowing Mabel always had to have the last word.

And sure enough, Mabel responded.

M - Aw, thanks. I have a question, if you don't mind me asking.

R - Sure, what is it?

M - This is going to sound weird but do you have a boyfriend?

"Oh.... That's weird.... Why would she ask that?" Evan asked.

"I'll just say yes. There's no need to lie." Rosalie said.

"Agreed. But ask why she asked about it." Ari said as Kiara sat down in my lap and let me hold her while we watched this unfold.

R - Yes, I do. Why?

M - I just saw your pictures and I immediately thought of this kid I knew way back in junior high. You seem like you'd be a good match. It was just a random thought.

"Wow." Evan laughed.

"Ask his name." Ari said.

R - Who? What's his name?

M - Evan.

"Oh my God." Evan said, a smile overtaking his features.

"I have to tell her, I can't stall anymore." Rosalie said.

"Go ahead." I nodded.

R - Ok. I'll admit, I followed you because I've heard of you.

M - Heard of me? What?

R - I'm sitting with a whole group of people who are looking for you.

M - Who's looking for me?

R - Well for the record, you're a great matchmaker. My boyfriend is Evan. He knew you in junior high too.

Mabel started typing then stopped and then started again and the cycle repeated ten times before she finally sent something.

M - Theo's cousin, Evan.... And you know Vidal?!

R - Yeah. They're both sitting here with me, along with everyone else in the family.

M - You're lying. I want to see a picture of him.

R - Like one from now or can I use an old photo? He's currently not here.

M - An old photo for now. But I want a photo from now as soon as he gets there.

R - Alright. Let me just get the boys to send me a picture.

I sent her three and she picked one and sent it off. He was alone in the picture, he had his hands in his pocket and he was looking down. He looked miserable, but it was hard to find a picture that wasn't miserable.

M - You're lying.

R - I'm not lying. How else would I know so much?

M - Tell me something only the guys would know.

"Something only you would know." Rosalie said, looking up at Evan and I.

"Uhm.... the little cafe by the school, what is it called?" Evan asked.

"Sugar something." I said.

"Oh... Milk and Sugar!" Evan said.

"Yeah... but what about it? Lots of people know that Theo and Mabel loved that place." I said.

"But they don't know that they would sit in the third to last booth from the back corner because the view was best from that window. And they don't know that they ordered a carrot cake every single time and shared it because the serving size was huge." Evan said.

"He would always feed it to her... God, of all couples it had to be them that got separated?! They were almost tighter than Mom and Dad." I said.

"What? How? Mom and Dad are like stuck to each other." Remi said.

"If you saw these two, you'd understand. And it was so innocent. He just wanted to be around her. He wanted to take care of her and be around her all the time and she just wanted someone who understood her and really cared how she felt about things. He listened and he gave her good attention when she was used to the bad kind. They were perfect together." I said.

"Wow. My brother is the sweetest!" Ari chuckled, tears streaming down her face.

"Why're you crying?" Evan asked her.

"Because that's so sad... they got separated." Ari sobbed, making Micah pull her into his lap to calm her down.

"Alright I told her." Rosalie said.

I looked up at the screen to see a new message.

R - You used to sit in the booth that was third from last in the back corner because the view there was best. You always used to get the carrot cake. One serving for two and Theo would feed you.

M - They remember that? Where's Theo?

R - He's in the city, but he'll be back to his family Island soon to meet us all.

M - Why did you reach out?

R - Because we all think you're meant for each other. Are you currently in a relationship?

M - Once a man feeds me carrot cake and brushes my hair, there's no one else in the world I'd look at.

R - Alright... so you're single?

M - No. Theo and I never broke up.

R - Alright.

M - So he still lives in Vancouver?

R - Yeah.

M - I want to see him, a picture from now.

R - Alright. Let me check if he arrived.

"You think he's back by now?" Rosalie asked us.

"I'll call him." Ari said.

Arabella called Theo and then found out he was in the soccer field with Uncle Rico and Uncle Killian. So we all got up and in smaller groups we joined everyone else's. Theo had Mia on his shoulders and he was standing near the bleachers.

Rosalie immediately took a picture and sent it off to Mabel.

I sat beside Rosalie with Kiara in my lap and Evan sat on her other side.

M - He has kids?!

R - No! That's his niece.

M - Oh. He's not with anyone is he?

R - Of course not. But, why didn't you reach out yourself?

M - I made the Instagram account. I was working my way up to trying to find him, but the fear of seeing another woman with him was too strong for me to actually go through with it.

R - When a guy feeds you carrot cake and brushes your hair, you're the only girl he'll ever see.

M - I really like you. Your name is Rose?

R - Rosalie. But you can call me Rose if you'd like.

"No! Only I call you Rose!" Evan objected.

R - Nevermind, apparently only Evan can call me that. You can call me Rosie like everyone else.

M - Thank you, Rose. Tell Evan I said he can get lost and find another nickname. Today has been amazing because of you. I don't think I've been happier since I left Vancouver.

R - Don't thank me. We were all tired of seeing Theo sulk. Are you still in Canada?

M - I'm in Nova Scotia.

R - Oh. That's pretty far, huh?

M - I guess. British Columbia is so much better. I wish I never left.

R - It's ok. Because we're bringing you back, and if you can't come, I will fly over there myself and drag you over here.

M - I can come. I just have to wait until the end of April, then I can come.

R - What's happening until April?

M - My parents want me to go to Italy with them. I took the year off, but normally I'm a teacher.

R - Oh. That's awesome. You get some sun, and look your best and then come over here.

M - Sounds like a plan.

R - Also, quick question. You didn't cut your hair, did you?

M - Never. How could I be Theo's Rapunzel if I cut my hair?

R - Aw. He calls you that?

M - He called me that before he knew my name. Anyways, my mom is calling me, I will get back to you in a few hours if you're free. It was great talking to you and not just because I heard about Theo.

R - Sounds good. It was great talking to you too. Text me later.

"Wow. We found her." Evan said, looking up at me.

I gave him a high-five and then Theo walked over, making Rosalie immediately lock her phone.

"You four.... What do you think you're doing without me?" He asked.

"Nothing." Kiara said in horror, hiding her face in my shirt because she didn't know how to go about keeping this secret.

"So you're doing something weird then, because Kiara's acting very strange."

"Fine. We are. We're planning your birthday gift." Vidal said.

"Interesting." Theo said, looking at Kiara.

"I won't tell you anything, Theo!" Kiara said, hugging me tightly.

"Sure you won't, Baby Sister." He smiled.

I made a mental note to keep Kiara away from Theo until we could get Mabel over here. I also needed to plan how I would be proposing to my Kiwi. Because it was about time we took this further.
