《Come Back To Me, Kiwi.》Chapter 58 - Nieces and Firefly

I had just witnessed a woman with a kid running into my brother's hospital room. The little kid called him daddy and the woman looked about ready to drop dead at the sight of his injuries. I never knew Romeo could be so secretive. Or maybe I was too lost in thoughts of Kiara to ever notice any mention of this.

The little girl was so adorable. I wouldn't mind being an uncle to that angel. She was so cute. Seeing her call my brother her daddy and seeing him assure her that he was ok and look at her like she was his entire universe just solidified that I had yet another niece.

"He... She's not his kid, is she?" Momma asked.

Kiara smiled and she looked up at us.

"She's Juliet's daughter from another man. She was married, but the marriage seems to have been a really bad one. And Remi helped her get rid of her other husband." Kiara explained.

"Was he abusive?" I asked in horror.

"I don't know. I don't know much at all. But the girl calls him 'bad man'. So he definitely wasn't ever a father to that angel." Kiara explained.

Suddenly, the door opened and the little girl came skipping out.

"Who's cupcake?" She asked, looking up at us.

I smiled and saw Kiara kneel down.

"That would be me." Kiara giggled.

"Daddy said I should buy a slushy with you." The adorable little girl said.

"Alright. Can Uncle Vivi come?" Kiara asked, pointing to me.

The adorable girl shook her head and hid behind Kiara.

"Oh, come on. He's super nice." Kiwi chuckled.

"Nu-uh.... I don't want him." My new niece said.

"Aw, why not, Princess?" I asked, kneeling down as well.

"Cupcake only." She said, taking Kiara's hand.

"Aw... what if I become something nice like a cupcake?" I asked, knowing the nickname appealed to her.

"Like what?" She asked me.

"Uhm... what do you think I could be?" I asked her.

"Uhm... Soda." She said, eying my hair.

"Soda?" I laughed.

"Mhm... because you look like a orange." She told me, pointing to my hair.

"An orange?" I laughed.

"No! No! A peach! Peaches are fuzzy." She giggled, her cheeks turning red.

"Alright. I can be a peach." I laughed. "Am I allowed to come with you now?"

"Uhm... only cupcake." She said softly.

"Please, please, pretty please?!" I asked her.

"Uh..... ok, fine!" She said, rolling her eyes and giggling.

This girl was adorable! She already reminded me of Remi and she was still very young.

Kiara held out her hand and the little girl took it.

"So, what's your name munchkin?" I asked her.

"I'm Eleanor. But Dada calls me Nora." She giggled, skipping alongside Kiara.

"Wow. Such a pretty name." Kiara smiled.

"Peach?" I heard the girl ask when Kiara left us at a table in the hospital to go get the little munchkin a slushy.

"What's up, Sweetheart?" I asked her.

"You think Daddy will be ok?" She asked me.

"Of course he will. Your daddy is a very strong man, did you know that?" I asked her.

"Yeah. He scared the bad man away." She said.

"Oh... did the bad man hurt you, Princess?" I asked her.

"No... he hurt Momma a lot and he wanted to take me away from her." Eleanor shrugged.

"No one can ever take you away from Mommy and Daddy, ok, Princess?" I asked her.

"Mhm." She nodded. "Who are you, Peach?"

"Me? I'm your Daddy's brother." I told her.

"Really?! So you knowed him from when you guys was little?" She asked me.

"Yup. And I'm older than him, did you know that?" I asked her.

"No, that's cool." She giggled. "You think maybe one day I can have a little brother?"

"Maybe, if Momma and Daddy wanna have a baby." I said with a shrug.

"Daddy will give me anything." She giggled.

"Oh, you little trickster. You already know Daddy has a soft spot for you, don't you?" I laughed.

"Daddy loves me. He told me himself." She said, looking very happy about the fact.

"Oh yes he does." I smiled, brushing a little bit of hair away from her face.

"I like you, Peach." She said to me.

"Really?" I asked her.

"Yes." She nodded.

"Alright. Can we come up with another nickname? I don't think I like 'peach' very much." I said to her.

"Hm... you can be firefly.... your hair looks like fire." She giggled.

"It does." I laughed.

"You like firefly?" She asked me.

"I do. You can call me that." I said to her.

"Ok... how can we find Cupcake? She's taking years with the slushy." Eleanor said, rolling her eyes and putting her hands up in the air as if she was exasperated.

I loved this little fireball already. She was very smart and looked about five or six years old.

"No, no. First we have to pick a name for you." I said to her.

"I'm Eleanor." She told me.

"I know that... but my real name is Vidal and you call me firefly.... so what should I call you?" I asked her.

"Uhm... you can call me, Ellie.... or you can call me Nora... or El.... I don't know what else." She shrugged, patting her chin as if she was thinking.

"I'm gonna call you..... whiz.... you like it?" I asked her.

"Why did you pick that?" She asked.

"Because you're very clever. And so you're a little whiz." I said to her.

"Hm... I like that. Let's go find cupcake now." She said, taking my hand and pulling me away from the table we were just on.

I chuckled and threw her up onto my shoulders.

"So... Firefly? If you're Daddy's brother, that mean's you're my uncle now?" She asked me.

"Yup. Unless your Momma has an objection." I told her.

"I think Momma is finally telling Daddy that she loves him." The little girl said.

We found Kiara with two slushies in her hand, looking through the crowd for us and we kept going towards her.

"She loved him before but she didn't tell him?" I asked.

"Yeah. She was scared, but Daddy isn't scary." Eleanor told me.

"Hey, Kiwi." I said, wrapping an arm around Kiara when we got to her.

"Hey, she's not a Kiwi.... she's a Cupcake!" ELeanor deadpanned.

"I call her Kiwi though." I said with a laugh.

"No. Daddy says she's Cupcake... so she's Cupcake." Eleanor said making both me and Kiara chuckle.

My niece was quickly becoming my favourite person on the planet.

"Hey, Cupcake... how come there's those see-through lines going into everyone's hands?" Eleanor asked pointing at the hospital rooms we were passing.

"It puts medicine in them so they can get better." Kiara said.

"How come they can't drink their medicine?" Eleanor asked.

"Some medicine needs to be given to them all the time and those tubes will help the doctors keep giving it to them in the right amount. Because if you take too much of a medicine it can hurt you and if you take too little it might not work... so doctors figure out exactly how much the sick person needs and they give it to them." I explained.

"So, Daddy is sick?" My little whiz asked.

"Well, Daddy got hurt... so he has to have medicine that will make his ouchies not hurt as much." Kiara explained.

"Oh.... so some medicine makes you not hurt?" Eleanor asked.

"Yup... it makes the pain go away." I explained.

"So... if I got a booboo and it hurt me, then the medicine Daddy has in the tube would make it not hurt anymore?" She asked.

"No. The medicine in the tube would probably make you very sick.... because it's too strong for just a booboo.... it has to be a huge booboo." Kiara said.

"Is that why Momma says I can't take any medicine from the cabinet in the bathroom?" She asked me.

"Yeah. It is... because if you take it when you're not sick enough for it, it can make you really sick and hurt you." I told her.

"Ok.... Momma doesn't take medicine a lot.... only when her tummy hurts." Eleanor said to me.

"That's good. It means that she's healthy." Kiara smiled.

"And is that because she ate her vegetables?" Eleanor asked.

"Probably." Kiara giggled.

"Wow... do you eat vegetables, Cupcake?"

"I do... I like to eat salads... your Nana Sophie makes the yummiest salads ever... when you meet her, she'll make some delicious food for you." Kiara told her.

"Nana?" She asked.

"Yup. She's your daddy's aunt. So you can call her Nana." Kiara said.

"What about Daddy's Momma?" She asked.

"She's another one of your Nanas... did you see her when you came to see your daddy? She has orange hair." Kiara explained.

"I didn't see... I was sad." She explained.

"Why were you sad?" I asked her.

"Because Daddy was hurt and Momma was scared." She told us.

"I see... but Daddy is ok." I assured her.

"I know. He told me. And he promised once he's all better, he's gonna take me and Momma to a big house and we can play there and he said there's a pool and lots of tasty snacks!" She said in excitement.

"It's gonna be so much fun, isn't it?" Kiara asked her.

"Yeah." Eleanor laughed and then we reached the hospital room and I put her down so she wasn't on my shoulders anymore. "One slushy is for me?"

"Yup, and the other is for whoever wants it." Kiara said.

"Uhm... do you want it?" Eleanor asked Kiara.

"No." Kiara said, shaking her head.

"What about you, Firefly?" El asked me.

"Nope." I chuckled.

"Uhm... you think Daddy wants it?" She asked us.

"Why don't you ask him yourself? But try to be quiet, I think his head hurts really bad." Kiara said softly, fixing Eleanor's little hoodie which was getting bunched up.

"Ok..." Eleanor said, taking the slushies from Kiara and waddling into the hospital room like a penguin because the slushies were quite big and not the easiest for her little arms to carry.

"Oh my God. She's just about the cutest child I've ever met. She's so smart." I said to Kiara.

"She is." Kiara smiled and I looked down and watched how Kiara watched Eleanor with Romeo and Juliet so happily. She seemed to admire the little family.

"You want a family like that one day? You me and a little one?" I asked her.

"Yeah.... but kids aren't an option for me right now... we need lots of time." She said.

"I agree. I don't think I'm ready for a kid just yet. I'll need a few years of just you and me together." I smiled, letting Kiara lean against me as she smiled back at me.

We stood there for a while, watching Eleanor regress into Remi's lap when he tried introducing her to my parents.

"Baby, can we go home?" She asked me.

"Why? Is something wrong?" I asked her.

"No. I'm just tired and I think we've had enough adventure for one day. We can go on that hike with Momma and Daddy another day." She said.

"I agree. Let's go, Kiwi." I said softly.

We grabbed our bags, said goodbye to everyone and we were off.

"Wait, Firefly!" My adorable niece said before I left with Kiara.

"What?" I asked with a chuckle.

"You'll visit us sometimes... I don't want to never see you again." She said.

"Anytime you need me, you tell Daddy to give me a call, alright?" I asked her.

"Ok... hug?" She asked.

"Sure thing, Little Whiz." I chuckled, hugging her tightly.

"Hug for Cupcake." She said, holding out her arms for Kiara after our hug.

Kiara hugged her and kissed her forehead and then Kiara even went and talked to Juliet. They both hugged and then off we were to our apartment.

When we got there. Kiara was exhausted. Probably from all the time in the water and then the shock of Remi's accident and how we had to rush to the hospital. She finally admitted how scary it was for her to see Remi like that and how she was really worried about him. But I knew my brother, he was fine.

I assured her he'd be ok and then we went to bed, cuddling and kissing and then falling into a deep sleep. Life was great now that we could openly show our affection for each other.
