Words couldn't describe how I felt seeing Daisy this morning. After the drive to the hospital, I'd convinced myself it was bad news. So when the doctor met us in the arrival area to tell us they were both okay, only suffering minor injuries, I almost melted to the floor in relief. The first words that left my mouth were 'take me to them'. I wasn't waiting another second to see my girls.

Hope was in the children's unit. She had been thoroughly checked as far as I was aware, and was thankfully okay. However, not being a biological parent, they wouldn't tell me anything unfortunately. Yet they hadn't visited Daisy to tell her otherwise, so I took it as a positive sign.

I also wanted to be able to tell Hope about her new baby brother or sister, so we would have to wait until after the doctor had done the scan. Daisy has finished her urine sample and we were waiting for the doctors results. She was dipping a thin plastic stick in it - apparently their version of a pregnant test - and waiting for the two pink lines to appear. I don't think I'd been this excited and nervous together at the same time before.

I could see Daisy's brain turning over all the possibilities, mostly the negative ones. She had a pained, worried expression written all over her face, and her hands were jittering as she tried to sit patiently and wait.

I interlocked our fingers, pressing a tender kiss to her knuckles. I still couldn't believe I'd gone from losing her, worrying she had been seriously hurt, to finding her, and finding out she was possibly carrying my baby. Miracles really did happen.

"Okay I believe it says you are pregnant. Now let's do the scan" the doctor declared, pulling me from my thoughts.

A sign of relief flashed across her features, eyes softening for a second, until reality hit her again. She was worried the scan would show complications, and I did too. I still hadn't got a clue what had happened to her while she was there, but I intended to find out. I wanted to know how she escaped for one.

"Right, this will be cold" she warned Daisy, squirting clear gel across her abdomen before placing a wand looking stick across it.

Daisy flinched before giggling at the sudden coldness.

"You okay beautiful?" I whispered, kissing her soft strands as the doctor fiddled with the stick. I really had no clue what she was doing or how this worked, but I'm pretty sure you don't have a scan so early and you never have one in a random room like this. That's how I knew the seriousness of it.

She nodded, looking up at me with glassy eyes. She was terrified.

"Whatever happens, I love you-"

I was interrupted by the sudden thumping noise coming through the room. I looked over at the doctor, most likely confused as hell written all over my face, as Daisy's eyes darted to the tiny machine.

Then I noticed.

A tiny flicker on the screen. A small grey little dot.

That was our baby. And that was it's heartbeat.

"Baby seems to be doing really well. Congratulations!" The doctor beamed, smiling from ear to ear at us, just as I noticed Daisy blurting with tears.

"Oh baby I love you" I pecked her cheek as I cuddled into her, wiping her tears. Nothing could explain how I felt at this moment. This was a different kind of love, a feeling I'd never experienced before.

"I love you too, we're actually having a baby" she sobbed, giggling at the same time.

She looked up at me, and my heart felt so complete. Her beautiful sapphires stared back at me with such emotion, I felt a tear prick my eyes. I'd never felt such raw emotion in my entire life. I was irrevocably in love with Daisy, and I wanted her to officially be mine. I wanted to marry her.

"You're only five/six weeks along so you will still need your twelve week scan of course, I'll be sure to sort it for you while you're in here. Congratulations again! I'll be just outside" she left and I thanked her before jumping on the bed next Daisy.

"I don't have words" she said as she looked at me.

"You don't need to" I kissed her softly, turning it more passionate and needy. Here we were on a hospital bed kissing like we were about strip each other's clothes off. But I didn't care. All we needed now was Hope.

And just on time, the doctor walked in with Hope on her hip. She looked exhausted, eyes droopy, skin terrifyingly pale, and absolutely frightened. But as soon as she saw mommy and me, she wriggled her way out of the doctors arms and jumped straight into our arms.

"Oh my god" Daisy sobbed, tears flowing even faster than before as she held her so tight to her chest. "You're okay. My baby"

"I missed you mommy. Why are you crying?" Her tiny little face searched Daisy's, and she stopped crying. The tears dissipated quicker than ever as she looked back at her beautiful little girl. If there was ever a more perfect moment.

"Do you want to tell her?" I whispered, not sure if we should yet or not.

"I do"

"Nate! I missed you" she jumped into my arms, and I placed her half on my lap and half on Daisy's.

She had her favourite frozen pyjamas on, courtesy of Amanda who I'd asked to bring to the front desk so someone could drop them off (I didn't want her leaving the apartment; she was too frightened), and her beautiful tendrils of hair looked dry, not their usual silky, but she still looked as beautiful as ever. My heart aches for whatever psychological damage Robert has done from his abusive actions. With the massive cut on Daisy's head, I dread to think what Hope's seen or heard.

"Hope sweetheart, we have some exciting news" Daisy started, excitement written all over her face.

She laced her hand in mine, kissing it, then pointed at the tiny screen with her other hand.

"How would you like a baby brother or sister?"

Hope looked at the screen confused and screamed, "yes! I'd love one mommy! When do we pick them up?"

I giggled at how cute she was. She was going to be so fascinated when she realised it was in mommy's tummy.

"No baby, we don't pick them up. You see that little dot on the screen there?" She waited for Hope to nod curiously. "That is your little brother or sister, and they are growing in my tummy" she twisted Hope as she placed a tiny hand over her tummy. Hopes eyes widened with fascination and confusion.

"How does it get there mommy?"

Jesus. If there was ever an awkward question, it was that one.

"That's a story for when you are older sweetie, but right now all you need to know is our baby is growing in here. Soon mommy's belly is going to get really really big"

"Just like olivias mommy's tummy?"

I wasn't sure who that was - I presumed a friend from school - but Daisy nodded and I watched as Hope laughed.

"You're going to be really fat mommy" we both burst into laughter, and so did the doctor.

"Yes, but you can't call me that. Because that's not nice is it"

They spent the next half an hour talking about babies. Hope was transfixed and mesmerised by it all that we let her listen to the heartbeat. That really did get her eyes widening. I thought they were going to pop out of her head, bless her little soul.

"I really love you Daisy. I can't believe how lucky I am"

Her eyes became more watery and she opened her mouth to respond when the detective poked his head around the door.

Forever having bad timing.

"I'm so sorry to be a pain, I just really need to get your statement. I understand if you wish to wait, but my boss is demanding I get it soon enough" he winced, leaning against the door frame. His relaxed manner was the complete opposite to how he was trying to come across, but I ignored it.

"That's fine, we can talk" Daisy answers, gesturing for him to enter the room.

"We also need to talk about Roberts whereabouts, we went to the house you were found nearby and he isn't there-"

"What?" She stopped the detective, panic all over her face. I was also confused. What did they mean he wasn't there?

"Well there's no sign of him. His car is gone too"

I saw the words turn over in her head, and then her breathing got heavier. She was having a panic attack.

"Baby, look at me" I grabbed her face between my hands. "It's okay, don't worry"

she didn't look at me. She just zoned out into space, and held her hand to the middle of her chest. Her face paled, drowning out the rosy hue of her cheeks, as her lips cracked with dryness.

"Daisy, just breathe"

But then her eyes rolled back until they shut, and she fell into the pillow.

She'd fainted.

"Call the doctor!"
