《Cuore Mio》Chapter Thirty Two - The Ball
Advertisement
Today is the day of the ball. Ever since I woke up in the morning, all I have done is get ready for tonight. From training a little bit, to shaving my legs, to doing a facial and now painting my nails in the room.
Normally, I don't like to dress up much but because today I would see literally all the people associated with the underworld, I wanted to look decent.....or at least not like I had just gotten out of bed.
Shaking the bottle of beige colored nail polish, I painted my nails. I never gave much importance to the length of my nails, but they were always painted. Whether it was just a top coat, which is transparent, or a nude color.
I called Kim because I hadn't spoken to her in a while. She said that working at Marc Technologies without me was boring.
Then I replied by saying that I had that effect on people. You know what she did ? She said 'Bye' and instantly hung up on me. Rude.
Once I was done painting them, I flapped my hands in the air to help the nail polish dry faster. If anyone saw me right now, they would think I was trying to fly.
Earlier today, when I woke up, Dante had already left for work. The barrier I had made last night was perfectly in place.
Later in the day, he called and told me that he had asked one of his employees to buy a dress for me tonight. I even offered to pay for it but he rejected.
And when I asked to see the dress, he said that he would show it me only on the day of the ball; which is today.
The nut job didn't even tell me the pattern of the dress so I had to shave my legs. It's not like I don't do it every few weeks; I do. I just try wearing long pants or something to cover it up when I'm lazy.

When my nails dried, I decided to have a quick shower because it was time for me to get ready. Taking the bath robe from the bed, I made my way to the bathroom.
I took my clothes off, I got into the shower and turned on the shower head. Lathering the heavenly lavender smelling body wash on myself, I started humming a song.
When I finished having a quick shower, I decided to wash my hair too because it looked a little greasy.
Finishing the long shower, I wore underwear and the bathrobe on top. Walking into the room, I saw a box on the bed.
Heh ? Who's this from ? What is it ? Maybe the dress Dante bought for tonight ? I thought.
I checked the box from the outside carefully just to make sure that it wasn't a bomb. I'm a little paranoid when it comes to boxes, sometimes. Seeing that it was safe, I opened it.
Woahhh.......
There was a beautiful dress neatly folded in the box. When I removed it out from the box, I was even more stunned than I was before. This wasn't a dress, nah, this was a gown.
And yes, there is a difference. A gown is worn for weddings, proms or balls. A dress can be any one-piece garment with a skirt of any length.
The gown is made of a satin-like material which felt very smooth, may I say. It is royal blue in color and oooohhh it has a slit running down the side !
Excitedly, I wore the dress and damn; this fit my body like a second skin. It had a halterneck and the back was almost backless.
Even the length is perfect. The extra material down flowed to the ground.
Hold up...Dante didn't ask for my size. How does this fit me perfectly ?

Weeeiiiirrddd.......
When I looked back into the box, I saw a note that said:
Well, that's definitely his handwriting. I've spent quite a lot of time in his office to know that. Aww...I guess the size was just a lucky guess then.
Since tonight wasn't going to be an average ball, I decided to strap a knife to my thigh because knowing that I had it would make me feel safer. When I did so, I noticed a small pocket on the inside of the dress.
This is a dream come true ! But, I don't have anything to put in there..
I did minimal makeup look by applying just a little shiny eye-shadow and with winged eyeliner and mascara.
This color looked so pretty along with my blue eyes ! Then, I applied a thin layer of nude lipstick.
Ehhh....good enough....
Letting down my now dried wavy brunette hair, I slipped into some black heels that I bought a few weeks back. They weren't that high though, maybe only about an inch or two.
I debated on whether I should take a purse or not. I mean, I don't think I would need anything except my phone. Finally deciding on not taking a purse, I put the phone in the pocket of m.
It fitted. Thank the good Lord. Looking at the watch in the room, I smiled. Just in time for me to leave the room. When Dante went to work in the morning, he said that he would be back by now.
I wonder where he is....
Leaving the room, I walked towards the living room. There was nobody working here now because it is quite late in the evening. I walked a little further in search of Dante.
I stopped in my tracks when my eyes met with his olive green ones. Dante wore a navy blue suit that matched the color of my gown.
His jet black hair was perfectly styled; like he placed every strand in place. His face was clean-shaven. Overall, he looked very handsome.
Both of stared at each other from a distance for a few moments.
I didn't even know that Dante came closer to me until heard his voice. "You look beautiful, Azalea."
"Thank you." I replied, looking at my feet. "Well, the dress fitted me perfectly." I said, trying not to meet his gaze because I felt nervous around him all of a sudden.
"Yeah. It does." He smiled. "Shall we ?" He asked, holding out his arm.
"Yes, we shall." I replied, hooking my arm around his. "You know, you look beautiful too."
"Beautiful ?" He asked, furrowing his eyebrows. "I believe the word you're looking for is handsome."
"Nah....I don't think so." I teased.
We walked together to the car and when we did, he opened the door for me. Smiling at him, I sat in while Dante went around the car to sit at the driver's side.
As soon as he started the ignition, the loud roar of the car was heard. Both of us looked at each other and smiled.
Here we come, Annual Mafia Ball....

My Newest, and at the same time, Oldest novel. This is a Rewrite of my very first novel that I begun when I was just starting out. It follows the story of Mark Floyd, a broken man who once tried to do what he thought was right... only to be stabbed in the back and thrown away. Now, pulled into a conflict that spans time and space, Mark has a choice to make; Stand up once more, even if it means facing an unknowable future, or let the Embers of his heart die and sink back into darkness. ----------------------------------- “For gold is tried in the fire, and acceptable men in the furnace of adversity”. Once part of a Special Ops team in the US Army, Mark Floyd thought he had seen the worst that Humanity had to offer. That was until his final mission, one that would leave him a broken and shattered man, betrayed by the Country he served, and abandoned by society as a whole. His dreams filled with nightmares of the ones he failed to protect, mind and memories clouded by booze and more, Mark finds himself stumbling through life without purpose or desire. Life isn't done with Mark yet, however. For as long as even a single ember remains in a persons heart, here is still yet hope for the flames of Passion and Hope to be Rekindled. When the dying embers of Mark's heart catches the eyes of a Being far beyond his understanding, Mark finds himself thrown into a situation not even his years of training could prepare him for. Will this new chance be Mark's hope at both Redemption and Recompense? Or will it simply be the final nail in the coffin for a man already dead to the World? [This is a rework of my very first story. The general story will remain the same, however a few details have been tweaked, the chapters have be Edited better and some chapters have been broken down into smaller chunks for better flow and consistency. The biggest change will be to the System itself; It will be a lot less "Game-like", meaning no stats, levels or similar aspect, though skills will still be present in the form of "Programs". Instead, It'll focus more on the Sigil's nature as super-computers and how they change the world around them. This should make for a much more "natural" and less info-dumpy system.
