《Cuore Mio》Chapter Twenty Seven - Attack

I woke up to the sound of a gunshot, followed by the shattering of glass.
Panic arose within me. Maybe the American mafia ? Or Dmitri ?
Without thinking, I sat up on the bed and wore my dinosaur feet slippers. Taking the gun from drawer of my nightstand, I quietly came out of my room.
Every since the I had been getting those threats, I started keeping a gun there, you know, for times like these.
Since Dante's door was left ajar, I peeked into it. Nope, he isn't in there.
He's probably trying to save his life downstairs, Azalea...my conscience reminded me.
"Okay, you can do this. Remember everything that Mom taught you. You'll be fine." I said to myself, trying to encourage myself.
Taking a deep breath, I calmed myself down.
When I went downstairs, I could see what was happening. Dante was having a one-on-one fight with the one and only......Dmitri....
From what I could see, Dante looked like he was winning but it didn't mean that he couldn't use a little help.
What the fuck does he want now ? This dumbo really came here....all alone ? How did he get past the guards outside ? And the security system ?
Crouching near the stairs, I tried taking a good shot at Dmitri but couldn't do so because their positions kept switching.
When Dante moved, I could see his face clearly. He had bruises and cuts all over his face.
He saw me move; the both of us made eye contact with each other. I raised the gun up a little bit, signaling that I had a gun and could shoot at Dmitri.
He winked back. Heh ? Maybe he understood my message ?
Dante firmly encircled his arm onto Dmitri's neck, and in a few seconds, he had him in headlock.

That's when I knew that he had understood what I had signaled.
Preparing myself to shoot, I gripped handle of the gun with my last three fingers.
But before I could take the shot, Dmitri fought back, throwing his head back which hit Dante right in his jaw.
Suddenly, a group of people, dressed in black suits, started firing into the house from nowhere. Dante and I both took cover. Using this as a distraction, Dmitri managed to leave the house.
I tried firing back my gun while Dante typed a bunch of numbers on a keypad that was near the kitchen island.
As soon as he clicked the enter button, a loud beep was heard. Then an AI voice spoke, "Lockdown initiated."
Metal-like blinds started to cover the shattered, almost broken windows. And soon, the shooting stopped but soft thuds could be heard.
Titanium. It's bulletproof.
Turning towards Dante, I said,"Good Morning, how's your day ?"
"Well, I woke up with the blaring of the security alarms in the house." He sighed. "I don't know how Dmitri had managed to get in because the security code changes every few hours. Somebody must've let him in."
"A mole ?" I asked, utterly confused.
Dante hummed in response. "Alright. I'm going to call Alex and Noah; tell them to find out about the mole as well as how he got pest security.".
"What about this place ? We won't be able to live here anymore. We could go and stay at my apartment for the time being." I suggested.
"No. It's too dangerous. We'll go to the base in the warehouse. Pack some of your clothes, we can stay there for a while."
"Alright. I'll go." I said, not wanting to ask further questions.
After having a shower, a very short one by the way, and brushing my teeth, we took all of our belongings and left immediately.

Before getting into the car, we checked for bugs or tracking devices but couldn't find any. Not wanting to take any risks, Dante called Noah to pick us up.
A matte black Porsche drove towards is a while later.
Sitting into the backseat and Dante at the front, we we on our way to the 'base'.
The guy, who I'm guessing is Noah, was driving the car, silently. He looked about Dante's age.
"Hi, Azalea. I'm Noah. I wish that we didn't have to meet under these circumstances." He said, keeping his eyes on the road.
"Hi, Noah. Yeah, me too." I said, looking at him from the rear view mirror. He smiled.
He has dirty blonde hair with a quiff haircut. Noah was dressed in a casual t-shirt and faded jeans. I could see a gun tucked into his pants, which wasn't done discreetly might I add.
A few minutes later, the car jerked to a stop.
"We're here." Dante said; the first thing that he's said since we entered the car.
I looked outside only to see an abandoned looking warehouse.
Getting out of the car, we walked towards the warehouse. Noah punched in a numbers, thereby opening the doors.
And wow.....don't judge a warehouse by how it looks from the outside.
To an outsider, it might look like a normal warehouse, but the inside looks like a mansion.
The huge room is lit with many lights. It reminded me of Dante's house because the layout of this place looks the same, but smaller and maybe a little less fancier.
There were many people sitting at desks placed all around. Some looked like they were hacking into databases of other mafias and while others were.... playing.... Fortnite ? Heh ?
The monitor screens that were placed on the walls, displayed an outline of a wolf; a common symbol of the Italian mafia that represents courage and the drive for victory.
Still in awe at how the place looks, I gawked at the place for a while more. The amount of screens.....
"Wait till you see where the training happens." Noah nudges my shoulder.
"There's more ?" I asked, shocked.
"Of course. Come on." He said, gesturing me to go with him.
"Okay. You give her a tour of the place, I'll update everyone and tell them to track Dmitri." Dante said, running his hands through his hair.
Noah nodded, "Yes, Boss."
I walked beside Noah into a room and was mesmerized beyond words.
This room was a huge gym with a wrestling ring and everything.
"And the shooting range is there." Noah says, while pointing at another section of the room.
This place is like a heaven for a hacker and an assassin....
I love this place !

Polly and Drake
Drake has been searching for a job as a personal guard, but wherever he turns, he is kicked out without fail. It's not that he's terrible with weapons, or inattentive. It could be because of his obvious racial heritage. Or because of Polly. With his funds dwindling, the only remaining option is to become one of the Cursed: poor souls that work for the Dragoneye Guild. In other lands, they may be called adventurers, saviors or even heroes, but not in the White Desert. Here, they are shunned and ignored. Depraved people who forsook their humanity for money and fame. With this choice, Drake may not only fall from grace, but also become one of only a few thousands capable of unearthing the secrets of ancient times. If he could get this guardsman notion out of his head. May contain gore, violence, profanity and traumatising content. Taking another shoot at this writing business. I write for fun and when I have time. There is no plan. The story may change drastically from what it starts out - or not. We'll see what happens. Currently, I'm aiming for a Slice of Life with LitRPG elements at a later time.
