《Cuore Mio》Chapter Nineteen - The Chase

Since the night that Azalea took care of me when I was wounded, we haven't spoken much.
We haven't been avoiding each other as such, but the few days off that Liam had given Azalea, got over a few days back.
Nowadays, both of us have just been busy with our own jobs.
Not much has happened in the last few days. The bullet wound on my shoulder was almost healed now. Estella said that she would come back home a little later because she wanted to spend time with her son, Matteo.
It was 8:00 pm now. Today, I came home early because the wound had started bleeding.
After coming home, I had a shower and changed the gauze.
Since I was hungry now, I decided to go up to Azalea's room to ask her if was hungry too.
Knocking on the door, I waited for her to answer. Moments later, she hadn't said anything so I opened the door and peeked in.
I saw her sleeping on the bed, her body sprawled all across the bed, like a starfish.
I chuckled and went to the kitchen to make something for myself. Around 15 minutes later, I finished making a grilled cheese sandwich.
I put the sandwich on a plate and cut it into two halves.
I smiled thinking of my Mom. She taught me how to make this....
"Always cut it honey, you don't want people to think you're a psychopath. But don't worry, even if you don't, you'll always be my little psychopath."
Her voice rang in my head.
Placing the plate on the island behind me, I started washing the dishes.
When I finished, I wiped my hands on the side of the sweatpants I was wearing.
Turning around, I was shocked to see only one piece. Then, I heard a soft giggle followed by a snort.

Since there was a balcony in front of the kitchen, I saw Azalea's slouching figure behind the counter.
"BOOOO !" Azalea screamed in my face, jumping out from her 'hiding' spot. "Happy Halloween !"
"Hey !" I pouted. "You took my sandwich. And it's July, not October."
"Halloween is when I say it is. Besides, I only took half. You still have the other half." She argued, munching on the cheesy goodness.
"No. I wanted both." I crossed my ams in front of my chest.
To be honest, I wouldn't mind giving her the whole sandwich, but I wanted to tease her first.
"Do you hear that ?" She suddenly said, cupping her ear like she's trying to listen to something.
Silence.....
"It's the sound of me not caring, old man..." She smiled.
"Hey ! I'm not old. I'm only 26." I defend myself.
"Whatever helps you sleep at night, Grandpa." She smirked.
Oh, she did not just call me that !
"Come here you little....." I said and started chasing her.
She squeaked and started running away from me.
I chased her all around the house. From the living room, to the kitchen, to upstairs into her room and then mine.
For a small and short person, she surely does run fast ! I was getting tired but she seemed to go on forever.
She kept shouting "Satan's after me !"
When Azalea ran back to the living room, she circled around the small table around the couch.
I quickly took this chance to catch her and pushed her on the couch. She fell , face first onto the couch. Then, I lost my balance.
And guess what ?
And fell down too.
On the floor.
Face first.
Yeah.....ouch !
I turned to my back and saw Azalea look down at me from the couch. She snickered a little. Moments later, that turned into a chuckle. And now she burst out in laughter.

Listening to her contagious laugh, soon after, I started laughing too.
When our laughter stopped, I stood up on my feet.
"Scoot in. I want space." I said, fixing my now messy hair.
"Nope. You're too fat. You and I will not fit here." She said while spreading her body on the couch, so that I wouldn't get space.
"I'm not fat. This is all muscle." I told her, flexing my biceps.
"Yeah, right." She scoffed.
"Mooooovveeeee......" I dragged the word.
"Noo...Why do want space here ?" Azalea whined.
"Because that's the most comfortable couch in the whole house." I explained.
"Go find yourself another couch, dumbass." Azalea smiled.
I pretended to sit on her but she didn't even move an inch.
Alright.....time to really annoy her...
Sliding my hands under her back and behind her knees, I placed her a little closer to the back of the couch.
Now I had space to lay down...
"Ooops.... didn't see ya there...." I said, quickly laying down on the couch before Azalea could move.
"Hey ! That's rude, dude..." Azalea said, trying to wriggle out of the space she is squished in.
"Stop moving so much." I say, folding arms behind my head.
"Maybe I wouldn't move so much if a huge elephant hadn't pushed me in this small space !" She says, clearly annoyed.
"Just sleep, Azalea..." I sighed.
"Sleep ? Dante, I just woke up." She said with a straight face.
Azalea lifted herself by resting on her elbow. Looking at the clock on the wall, she gasped.
"It's only 9:00 pm. What's wrong with you ?" She asked.
Then she answered her own question.
"Oh ! That's right.....everything. First you chase me like a maniac just because I borrowed half of your sandwich. After that, you squished me in here because this was your favorite couch."
I looked at my wrist, at my imaginary watch, and asked "You done, Mom?"
Rolling her eyes, she laid down on her back again.
"Let's play 21 questions." I suggested.
"Okay. It's not like you're gonna let me go anytime soon." Azalea said in a 'matter of fact' tone.
I chuckled and said to myself, "No, I won't."
Both of us spoke for another hour asking each other questions and joking around.
"So, what's your favorite color ?" I asked her, looking up at the ceiling.
When she didn't answer, I turned my face to her and saw her sleeping.
Her head was resting on my shoulder. I smiled and wrapped my arm around her shoulder, in case she feels cold because she has an intolerance to cold temperatures.
Azalea moved a little closer to my shoulder, placing her head near my neck.
"Goodnight, Stellina. Sweet dreams." I whispered in her ear.
