《Cry For Me》Chapter 52

Camryn's POV
My blurry eyes try to focus on the figure I bumped into during my escape from Jaimie. I'm face to face with a man wearing a gray suit and a worried look. I'm in shock because I think I know who he is.
"Camryn?" He says, placing his hands on my shoulders trying to get a reaction from me I bet. But I don't give one. I stay in shock, looking into his brown eyes, eyes that look like mine. "Cam?" He says again, examining my face as if he's looking for something specific.
"Camryn!" I hear Colton shout as he becomes visible in the hallway. He pushes the man out of the way and takes his position, putting his hands on my shoulders, but my eyes stay on the man. "Are you okay? Camryn say something," Colton says.
I can feel my eyes start to water again as I look to Colton. "Get me out of here please," I say shakily. He nods and takes my hand, leading me out of the hallway, past the man.
"Wait! Can we just talk for a moment?" the man asks.
"She's had enough tonight," Colton says for me as we make our way to an exit. On our way out we pass Sam who has the world's most confused look on his face. We don't say a word to him as we walk out the door.
Colton has his arm wrapped around me as if he's keeping me from collapsing. Honestly, I would probably faint again if it wasn't for him.
After what seems like a mile walk from the front door down to the end of the long brick driveway, Colton opens the passenger door for me and helps me in. He gets in the drivers side, but doesn't start the car.

We sit in silence for a few moments before he asks, "Do you want to talk about it?"
I nod, but I don't say anything just yet. I go over everything that just happened in my head.
"They were right," I whisper. I'm facing forward in my seat, staring blankly at the fancy car parked in front of us in the driveway. I have the urge to throw a rock at it.
"Who's they?" He asks. He's leaning across the divider, a few inches away from my face.
I turn to look at him, "Everyone." My face stays blank as I turn to look out the window again.
"What do you mean? Camryn, please give me something, tell me how your feeling, show me," he says.
"I don't want to! I don't want to shed another tear for those people!" I say frustratedly. "I'm heartbroken Colton and all I want to do is cry, but they don't deserve it!"
"You're right Camryn! They don't deserve your tears," he says back loudly. "So don't cry for them Cam, cry for me, show me how your feeling about this, give me something," he pleads.
I know I'm leaving him in the dark about what went on in the den and it's unfair. So I listen to him and start to cry. At first, it's a few tears, but then it turns into sobs.
Colton pulls me into his arms and I continue to cry hard. I'm crying my ugly cry. I can feel my face burning up and my nose start to run. "They got rid of me," I choke out. "They had a choice and they got rid of me." He holds me tighter. His hold is comforting, but not comforting enough.

Colton's POV
Cam's shaking in my arms crying and it makes me want to tear up too. I don't know how to make her feel better and I don't know if it's even possible to do so.
"Her mother wouldn't let her stay with a newborn," she chokes out.
"What?" I ask confusedly, still holding her head against my chest. She pulls away and wipes her eyes, but that doesn't stop the tears.
"She... had me for three months Colton, then... gave me away when they... needed a place to stay," she explains brokenly. I stay quiet and try to process my thoughts.
I remember back when I found Camryn's file in her dad's office. Her birth certificate and the date she was adopted didn't add up, and this is why. Her dad told me to protect her from this information and now I know why.
"Camryn, I'm..." I start but I'm too dumbfounded to offer my apology. She looks disappointed by my reaction, maybe because it was nothing really, and she begins to sob heavily again.
Her pain is killing me and there's only one thing I can think of doing that could take her mind off of this. I know I want it and I'm not sure how she'd feel about it, but I just want her to forget about this for a few seconds and focus on how much I'm in love with her.
Ever since that night in my room, I knew I was going to do this, I just didn't know when. I can't think of a better time than now.
I reach into my pocket and pull out my wallet. "Camryn," I say as I open my wallet. She looks to me, tears streaming down her face. I pull out my mother's old ring and hold it between my fingers between us. "Will you marry me?"
