《Cry For Me》Chapter 38

Camryn's POV

"What's this?" I look to Aimee and she's holding the piece of paper that has my birth parents names circled.

"Those, um, are the names of my real parents," I tell her. Her eyes widen a little. She looks over the names and looks... impressed almost.

She grabs my laptop from my desk and jumps on the bed with it, turning it on. I don't bother to ask what she's doing, my mind is clouded with Colton.

He's constantly telling me he's okay but I know that's not true, I just don't know what to do. How can I help someone who doesn't want to be helped. I can't. But it is okay, we'll get through this. I've been saving up my money and when I feel like I have enough, I'm going to help Colton get an apartment. I know he'll refuse my money but I won't give him a chance.

The money I saved up for college and the money from my last couple of paychecks should be able to help. If my parents didn't need help with the bills I would definitely have way more than $4,672 but they did need help, so there's nothing I can do about it.

I'm sure Colton's money plus mine would help him get out of that hell hole after being emancipated. He's working on his academics and he has a job, that should be enough to get emancipated, right? I hope so.

"Found them!" Aimee cheers, bringing me out of my own thoughts. I glance at my computer screen, but have no clue what she's looking at.

"What?" I ask.

"I found them," she repeats.

"Found who?" I getting a little irritated that she won't just spit it out, but she turns my laptop towards me. I get a closer look at the screen and see an address. "Okay?" I raise my brow at her.

"Look who lives there," she smiles. I look at the screen again and at the top corner I see who's address it is: Mr.&Mrs. Davis.

My heart begins to race and my breathing becomes uneasy. I feel like I'm going to be sick. I jump up from my bed and run to my bathroom. I hold onto the sink to keep myself steady.

"Camryn what's wrong?" Aimee asks from outside of the door. She sounds worried.

"Giv.. give me a minute," I choke out. This can't be real. How did she find them so easily. No, I don't want to know. I don't want to know them, I change my mind. I can't do this. This is real, this all became too real. What was I thinking. Did I really believe that I can handle this? I'm so stupid. Why did she have to find them? I didn't ask her to do that, she shouldn't have done that.

She was just trying to help. I can't be upset with her for trying to help. I'm going crazy, this is insane. My breathing is becoming more rapid and I'm afraid I might pass out.

Calm down, Camryn. It's just and address, who says it's even the right one? There could be a million people with the last name Davis. But what if it's right? What if there's a picture of them? Would I want to see it? No, I mean yes, of course.

I look up into the mirror and my face is flushed. I try to focus on my breathing. I really need Colton right now but it's late and we have school tomorrow so he's probably already asleep.

"Cam?" Aimee whispers through the door. "You okay?"

Before answering, I straighten myself up and open the door. "Sorry, that... caught me off guard," I mutter as I walk back to my bed.

"No I'm sorry, I shouldn't have ambushed you with that information, it was stupid of me to do that," she apologizes.

I step onto my bed and open my window, I need to tell Colton what's going on, I need him to calm me down.

"What are you doing?" Aimee asks, meeting me by my window. She has a worried look plastered across her face.

"I just need a minute, close the window after me," I tell her. She nods, but still looks uneasy. I step onto the roof and she does as I said and closes the window and the curtain.

It feels like I haven't been up here in forever. The feeling of being up here alone calms me a little, but I need Colton. I carefully jump onto his roof and try to make as little noise as possible. From here I look up at the moon and my heart aches. The sight is so beautiful, I've missed it.

I return my focus to Colton's window and tap gently. I wait a few seconds, but there's no answer so I tap some more. A few moments later I can hear some movement and then his curtain is pulled back. I can't see him through the window because his room is so dark, but once he opens it, he too has a worried look on his face.

I can tell he was sleeping by the way his eyes are squinted, they tend to do that as soon as he wakes up. "Camryn?" He says groggily. I instantly feel bad for waking him up.

"I'm sorry for waking you," I start, "its just..." I can't even finish my sentence before the tears start rolling down my face. Colton's eyes go wide and he jumps out onto the roof with me.

"What is it Cam, tell me," he whispers, taking me into his arms. He feels so warm and smells so good, it comforts me right away.

"Aimee found Jaimie and Timothy Davis," I state flatly. I can feel Colton's body tense up, but he soon relaxes.

"I know it's a lot to take in, but it's what you want Cam. You may want to change you're mind, but deep down I know this is what you want, you want to meet them," he says holding me tighter. "And I'm going to be right by your side, okay? You're not alone in this Cam, you have me."

Colton's words send instant relief throughout my entire body and I know this is exactly what I needed. I needed him to tell me everything will be okay.

"Are you okay?" He asks after moments of silence. I nod into his chest. "Good, you should get back inside, its freezing out here and we have school tomorrow."

"I don't think I'm going," I tell him, "I don't want to leave Aimee alone for six hours."

"Why don't I take you guys to the movies, or out to eat, or both?" He suggests.

"Like a date?" I ask, looking up into his beautiful hazel eyes.

"Yeah, like a date, but with your cousin as the third wheel," he laughs and I join. "I haven't taken you on a real date, have I?" He asks.

I try to think. He did pay for my expensive coffee that one time he was apologizing for being a jerk, but I don't think that counts.

"No," I answer.

"Well, we'll have to fix that soon, but maybe when your cousin isn't here," he smiles. I kiss his lips softly before he releases me to return to my room. I'm instantly freezing so I quickly climb into my bedroom. When I look back, Colton gives me a small smile before going inside.

Once I'm inside, Aimee appears right next to me. "Are you okay?" She asks worriedly.

"Yea I'm fine, sorry about that," I mutter quietly. I don't think Aimee has ever seen me so weak.

"Don't be sorry, it's kind of amazing to see," she says. My head shoots up to make eye contact.

"What is?" I asks. Before she answers, she makes herself comfortable underneath the blankets on the bed. I join her because I'm still cold from being outside.

"Over an hour ago, I see you cry for the first time in my life, and it had something to do with that boy. But that boy was also the one who got you to calm down just now," she explains. "It's just amazing to see the effect he has on you."

I don't respond to Aimee's speculation because I don't know what to say. It's true, Colton makes me cry, but he also makes me feel like nothing is wrong.

Aimee turns away from me and tells me goodnight once she realizes she's not getting a response from me.

I turn off the light and climb back into bed and instantly fall into a deep sleep, dreaming about my birth parents and going on my first date with Colton.
