《Cry For Me》Chapter 24

Camryn's POV

It's been a weeks since my dad left. He's been staying with my grandparents and has been trying to call me all week. I only answered one of his calls because Colton told me to.

I'm pissed that my dad would do this to me and my mom, it's just not right. My mom has been a complete mess so she hasn't even said anything about Colton being here all the time. He's been a great support system for both my mom and I. He's cooked and cleaned and even went grocery shopping while I consoled my mom during one of her breakdowns.

She hasn't been to work all week and I haven't been to work since my accident, but tonight's my first night back.

"Are you sure you'll be okay staying with her?" I ask Colton as I pull my apron over my head.

"Babe, we'll be fine, just go take it easy at work okay," he responds. I nod and walk over to my mom on the couch. She's been staring blankly at the television, flipping through the channels.

"Okay mom, I'm going to work, call me if you need anything," I say, kissing her cheek. She doesn't say anything, she just hugs her knees. I walk back over to Colton by the front door. "Seriously, call me if she freaks out again," I whisper.

"We'll be fine, now drive safe Camryn I mean it, I love you," he says, wrapping his arm around my waist, pulling me in for a kiss.

"I love you too," I smile. He opens the door for me and walks me to my car. "I'll call you on my break," I say before driving off.

It feels so weird driving back to work, I feel like I haven't been here in forever. I get to the diner exactly at seven and as I enter the doors, Abel loses it.

"CAMRYN!!!" she screams, running towards me. "You're back! Ryder said you were coming today, but I didn't think you would!" she says as she hugs me. She holds me so tightly all air leaves my body.

"Hey Camryn." I look up to see a shy Ryder waving from the kitchen. I smile and wave back. This is the first time I've seen him since he visited me in the hospital. I wonder if he knows that Colton and I are together.

"Hey Ryder, long time no see," I say, making my way behind the counter. He joins me and gives me a tight hug, tighter than Abel's.

"It's so nice to see you back here," he says into my hair.

"It's so nice to be back here," I laugh.

"Maybe we can finally reschedule our date?" he asks shyly. Oh crap. I don't want to start the night off with bad news. Well bad news for him. Luckily we're interrupted.

"Is that my favorite girl back there?" we hear an old man say. I turn around to see Dan sitting in his usual spot at the counter.

"DAN!" I cheer, pulling away from Ryder and walking over to my favorite old man.

"It is you! How've you been darling, I heard about your accident, tragic," he sighs.

"I'm good now Dan, all better," I tell him and he smiles.

"Good, now will you please serve me a great cup of coffee, no one else knows what they're doing around here!" he huffs.

"Hey!" Abel laughs from the cash register.

"Oops," he laughs. I pour him his black cup of coffee and he smiles with each sip. "This. Is. The. Best." he says and I laugh.

"Haven't lost my touch I see," I laugh.

"No you certainly have not, young lady. I'm looking forward to seeing you back here Camryn, til next time," he says standing up and tipping his hat at me. He pulls out his wallet and sets his money on the counter. I wave to him as he leaves and pick up the money.

I look down at the bill and drop it immediately. It's a hundred dollar bill! I instantly think it's a mistake and run outside of the diner.

"Dan! This has to be a mistake!" I call out to him down the side walk.

"It's certainly not, don't spend it all in one place," he smiles, waving his cane at me. What a crazy generous old man.

I go back inside and continue my shift, waiting for my break so I can call Colton and check up on my mom. When the time finally comes, I sit in a booth in the back and pull out my phone. Colton answers on the first ring.

"We're fine, I love you, how's work?" I laugh at the way he answers the phone.

"Good, I love you too, and you'll never believe what happened," I respond. "Remember Dan?"

"The old man who made me drink cold black coffee? Yeah why?" he asks.

"Well he tipped me a little too much, like $98 too much," I say.

"What?!" he shouts. "That's crazy, was it a mistake?"

"Nope, I'm just a great waitress," I laugh. He goes on to say how I'll be paying for dinner tomorrow and I agree but I know he's joking, he never lets me buy anything.

"Hey Camryn, can I sit with you?" I look up to see Ryder standing over me.

"Oh, yeah sure," I say.

"Who's that?" Colton's voice changed from cute and sweet to cold and mean.

"It's Ryder, I'll call you when I get off of work, love you bye," I say quickly.

"Camryn don't you dare..." I hang up the phone before he finishes his sentence. He's going to be mad, but he can't control me.

"Was that your mom?" Ryder asks and I want to laugh but I hold back. I just shake my head. "So how have you been? I haven't seen you in a while."

I inform him on what's been going on these past weeks leaving out my family falling apart, Colton and I getting together, and me wanting to find my birth parents. So that just leaves school. That conversation ended quickly so he changes the subject.

"I was wondering if maybe you'd want to go see a movie or something tomorrow, I mean, only if you want," he asks shyly, looking down at his hands on the table. He's never been this nervous around me before, I miss our old friendship.

"Oh, I..." I'm about to begin my rejection when the diner door swings open and in walks an angry Colton. My mouth falls open as he scans the diner looking for me. How did he get here so fast?

Once he spots me in the back, he stalks over.

"What are you doing here?" I ask harshly.

"Why'd you hang up on me, and what are you doing here?" he turns to Ryder.

"I work here dipshit." Oh god.

"No shit Sherlock, why the fuck are you with my girlfriend?" Colton spits, stepping closer to the booth. Ryder stands up too and I get in between them.

"She never mentioned having a boyfriend buddy," Ryder says pushing closer.

"Can you guys just please stop?" I ask, pushing at both their chests.

"Well I'm telling you now, stay away," Colton growls, ignoring my request to quit it.

"Why should I, your ass sure as hell doesn't deserve her you low life piece of..." Ryder doesn't have a chance to finish his sentence because Colton's fist connects with his jaw.

Colton pushed me away before he swung, but I didn't know that's what was going to happen. Ryder tries to fight back, but he's no match for Colton.

Colton's fist connects with his face another five times before I can even get out a scream. The five people in the diner are staring in complete shock but they don't move.

"Colton stop it!" I scream, but they both continue their struggle. This reminds me of the time he beat up that jerk Ethan at the party I followed him to, but Ryder is putting up a better fight, not a good one, but better.

I look to see if any of the cooks can see what's going on, but since it's late most of men have gone home and Abel's no where to be seen.

"Please Colton stop!" I scream again before going against my rules of never getting in between a boys fight. I grab both of Colton's shoulders and try to pull him back, but he doesn't budge. He brings his arm back to swing again, but I grab it and hold on for dear life.

He looks back at me and I mouth 'stop', because I think if I speak, I'll cry. He looks back at Ryder who's groaning on the floor and then climbs off of him.

Colton doesn't look at me as he stalks out of the diner.

"What the hell?" I turn around to see Abel stepping out of the ladies room.

"I'm so sorry," I say, my voice shaky. I run outside without another word to find Colton. I see him across the parking lot about to put on his helmet.

I run towards him as he's about to get on the motorcycle.

"What was that?!" I yell. I am so incredibly mad, but scared at the same time.

"I could ask you the same thing!" he screams back, taking off his helmet.

"I was on my break, why did you even come here!"

"You hung up on me to be with Ryder! What the fuck was that about Camryn?" Once again, he let his jealousy get the best of him.

"I was getting ready to tell him about us as soon as you came in acting like some psycho jealous boyfriend!" I yell defensively. "You can't just go doing shit like this Colton!" I can't help the tears running down my face and I can feel myself shaking.

"Camryn, don't cry," he says calmly. He should be used to me crying, he's the only one who ever sees it.

"No Colton, I'm going to cry, you know why? Because I'm scared! I'm scared one of these days you're going to seriously hurt someone and you'll get in real trouble!" I say hysterically. "I need you here Colton so you need to stop making stupid fucking decisions, and stop making me cry!"

I cover my face with my hands and cry more. I hate crying, I really do. I can feel Colton's arms wrap around me and I want to pull away, but I don't. I can never pull away from him.

"Camryn, I'm sorry, I really am, he just... pushed me. I didn't come here to fight him, baby I swear, but I didn't know he was going to talk so much shit either," he whispers into my hair. He's right, Ryder is the one who started the name calling, and he even said Colton doesn't deserve me and that's bullshit.

"Promise me you'll stop fighting people, I don't want you to get hurt," I say into his chest.

"Ha, as if they can hurt me," he laughs in a cocky way. I pinch his nipple for trying to act like he's invincible. "Ow! Camryn what the hell?!"

"You can get hurt just like everyone else, so start acting like it," I say and he groans. "How am I supposed to go back in there?" I ask.

"You don't, you come home with me," he suggests, holding me tighter. I like the idea, but it's barely ten, I have a few more hours left of my shift.

"I can't, I have to go back in, now please, just go home and keep an eye on my mother," I tell him, kissing him on the lips. He rolls his eyes at me and hops on his bike and rides off.

I slowly walk back to the diner and feel relieved when I see Ryder sitting up at the counter. He has a towel over his nose, but at least he's up and moving.

"So, uh, you have a boyfriend?" he says when I walk over to him.

"Look, I'm sorry he punched you, but you came at him pretty strong, why?" I ask, defending my man.

"He's the one who walked in here all angry and what not," he exclaims, waving his hand in the air.

"You didn't need to call him names," I say, chewing on my cheek and looking down.

"You're right," he sighs after a minute of silence, "I guess I'm just jealous that I missed my chance with you," he shrugs.

"That doesn't mean you should provoke boyfriend," I laugh and he joins me.

"I know, I've learned my lesson," he says showing me the blood on the towel and I cringe.

"I'm sorry, can we please just go back to how we used to be, friends?" I ask hopefully.

"Are you sure Mr. Fight Club will be okay with that?" he asks raising his brow and I laugh. See it already feels like normal again.

"I'm sure, deal?" I stick out my hand for him to shake and he takes it.

"Deal."
