《Cry For Me》Chapter 23

Colton's POV

"What?" I ask, completely shocked by her statement.

"You heard me, I want to find them and meet them," she says with all seriousness.

I don't know what to tell her. She's already having a shitty day to begin with and I can't deny her of what she wants now that I've just told her that I love her.

"I mean are you sure? That's a big deal Camryn, remember what you said about the truth maybe being worse than the story in your head?" I ask.

"What, so you're the only one who can change your mind?" she questions defensively.

"No of course not, I just..."

"Colton if you ever wanted to find your mom, I would help you without hesitation," she interrupts. This angers me.

"Don't ever bring up my mom again, okay?" I snap. Why would she even say that? She knows how I feel about that woman.

"I'm sorry, I just want to meet my parents," she whispers, scooting closer to me, "and I want you to help me."

She puts her arm around me and rests her head on my shoulder. I close my eyes and take a few deep breaths. I have got to stop snapping at her, she's all I got.

"I'm sorry, of course I'll help you, I love you," I whisper back, snaking my arm around her waist. I turn my head to face her and she looks up at me with her beautiful brown eyes.

I lean down and plant a soft kiss on her lips, but she pulls me in for more. The heat between us is growing and I have to remind myself to go slow, and that we're on a roof.

"Do you wanna go inside?" I breath between kisses. She pulls away and sighs.

"Not my place," she says.

"Not mine either," I laugh.

"Oh yeah, you have some explaining to do about this morning, what the hell?" she asks, slapping my arm.

I take a deep breath and decide it's easier to show her than to just tell her. I reach behind my neck and tug my shirt off over my head. She looks at me confused, until her eyes make their way down to my torso.

She gasps and then covers her mouth.

"They honestly look worse than they feel," I say quickly, referring to the slashes made by my father's belt.

"Why didn't you tell me?" she asks quietly, tears rolling down her face.

"He was waiting for you to leave," I whisper, "I knew you wouldn't if I told you, that's why I was being such a dick."

"Colton, you have to get out of there," she says, pulling my into a hug.

"I know, and I just got hired at Bobby's right down the street. As soon as I have enough money to rent an apartment, I'm free," I say, trying to comfort her.

"But what about until then? It's going to take you a while to save up that much money," she reminds me.

"I know, but I'll figure it out I promise."

"Well until then, you're staying with me," she says and I smile.

"Yes ma'am." I lean forward and kiss her again. "I love you."

"I love you, too," she whispers.

"AND DON'T COME BACK!"

Cam and I both jump at the sound of her mom screaming at her dad in the front yard. We scoot closer to the edge of the roof and watch David throw a handful of clothes into his backseat and then drive off.

"I should go, my mom needs me," she says, standing up. I nod and stay sitting down. "What are you doing? I said you're staying with me, c'mon," she says, jumping over to her side.

I smile and follow after her.
