《The Claim ✔️ *Editing*》42. Silence

We decided on The Lego Movie. As much as I hated to admit it, that movie was pretty entertaining. I was sure I was going to fall asleep thirty minutes in, but that movie kept my eyes glued to the screen the entire time.

Titus came back at the last twenty minutes of the movie. He placed the food on the table then joined me on the couch. He wrapped his arm over my shoulders then stared down at Kohl. Kohl sat on the black and white rug with his eyes glued to the screen.

When the movie ended, I was way too excited to eat. "Can we watch Big Hero 6 next?" He asked.

I shook my head. "Absolutely not."

Titus eyed me suspiciously, while Kohl stared up at me in confusion. "That big white thing is creepy! I'll have nightmares." Titus burst into laughter while Kohl followed behind him. I rolled my eyes and stood.

"Wait, you're scared of an animated character?" He asked as he held my hand.

"He's creepy Titus." I removed his hand then walked into the kitchen. "We'll eat then Kohl can watch the movie in his room." Kohl nodded in agreement. "After you take a bath." I added. His smile dropped as he crossed his arms over his chest and began pouting.

I ignored his pouting and began piling our plates with spaghetti and vegetables. Titus and I sat across from each other while Kohl sat in between the both of us. I stared at Kohl in shock as he ate his vegetables with no issue.

"You're like the only kid I know that willingly eats vegetables." He looked up at me and smiled with spaghetti sauce stained around his mouth. Titus ran his hand through Kohl's hair and smiled.

After dinner Titus went off to shower while I helped Kohl with his bath. I ran the bath water then went into into Kohl's bedroom. He was on his bed playing with his transformers when I entered the room. "Kohl, you were supposed to be picking out your Pjs."

"Sorry." He said, then continued to play with his toys. I ran my hand through my hair then sighed.

This kid...

"Well I'm not doing it for you mister, so you better start moving." I said sternly.

He stopped what he was doing then hopped of the bed. He opened his dresser then pulled out a navy blue pajama set. "Okay good. Grab your underwear then meet me in the bathroom." He nodded before I left the room.

I turned off the water when I entered the bathroom then waited for Kohl. When he finally entered the bathroom he kept his gaze towards the ground. He began to shake as a sob escaped his mouth.

"Kohl what's wrong?" I tried to place a hand on his shoulder but he instantly pulled away. "I can stand outside if you want?" He nodded.

"Okay, just make sure you get behind your ears." I said before I left the bathroom. I cracked the door, just too make sure he was okay. I heard way too many cases of children drowning in bathtubs.

Titus entered the hallway a few minutes later wearing black pajama pants. Before he could say anything I asked him the a question that half of me didn't want the answer to. "D-did someone hurt him?" He held my gaze for what felt like hours, then finally sighed. "Yeah..."

I shook my head as tears ran down my face. "That's horrible."

"I took care of her." He said as he stepped closer to me. I ran my hand over my face. "You promise?" He nodded as he grabbed my right hand.

"Can you help him with washing his face and brushing his teeth? I'm going to go take a shower."

"Of course."

I smiled then walked into our bedroom. Grabbing my clothes out of my dresser I walked into the bathroom and turned on the shower. I couldn't begin to understand why someone would do such a thing. They had to be seriously disturbed.

I walked into the shower and let the warm water calm my tensed muscles. I had a feeling something like this had happened, but hearing it from Titus made my stomach drop. This woman was disgusting. Who knows the effects it will have on Kohl in the future? I felt my anger rising as I gripped onto the tile.

I quickly finished my shower then turned off the water. I dried myself off then changed into an oversized grey shirt and black shorts. I walked towards the mirror then sat down in the seat. Grabbing my brush I began brushing out my hair. My hair was in desperate need of a hair cut. It landed all the way down my back. I never let my hair get further then bra strap length so this was a change.

Once I finished brushing out my hair, I decided I would get my hair cut tomorrow. I washed my face and brushed my teeth then left the room. I grabbed my laptop then joined Kohl and Titus in Kohl's bedroom. Kohl was giggling hysterically while Titus tickled him. "Okay you two, it's time for bed." The both stopped and sighed.

I eyed the bed then eyed them. They got my silent message and moved towards the bed. Titus lifted Kohl then placed him under the covers. Titus and I both sat on the edge of the bed while I looked for Big Hero 6. I shuddered as I clicked play then placed the laptop next to his pillow. "Okay kiddo, that's all you." Titus rolled his eyes and chuckled.

We said our final goodnights then got up to leave. "Can you leave the lamp on and door open?" He asked with a yawn. "Sure." I replied.

I turned off the big light, but made sure to leave the lamp on then kept the door open as I left. "We should leave our door open, just in case." I nodded in agreement as we entered our room.

We both climbed into bed then turned off the bedside lamps. I was exhausted and ready for sleep. Titus pulled me to his chest as I slowly fell asleep.

I was the first to wake up the next morning, which surprised me yet again. Titus was snoring loudly as he laid on his stomach with his dark brown hair covering his eyes. I moved his hair out of his face and placed a kiss on his forehead.

Getting up I glanced at the clock and groaned. It was 8:34 AM, aka not a productive time for me. "You're going to have to stop waking me up so early." I said as I stared down at my belly. A small kick followed, causing me to smile.

I walked into the bathroom to wash my face and brush my teeth. Once I was done I went into the closet to pick out an outfit. I changed into a black and white stripped t-shirt dress. I slid on my white converse then headed towards Kohl's bedroom.

Kohl laid diagonally on his bed with his right leg hanging off and the blankets tangled around his small body. This kid is a wild sleeper.

I lifted his leg back on the bed then placed the blankets back over his body. I grabbed my laptop then left the room. By the time I made it to the kitchen, I had decided I was going to attempt to make breakfast. It couldn't be that hard, I had seen my mother do it plenty of times. I sighed as my mother crossed my mind.

I placed my laptop on the counter, then pressed play on my music playlist. I pulled out the eggs, bacon, and bread then began prepping the food. Cooking the toast and eggs were okay, but once I got to the bacon I was just about ready to give up. The grease from the bacon popped me more times then I'd like to admit.

I felt accomplished when I finally finished. The bacon was a little over cooked but everything else was decent. I cut up a few pieces of fruit and placed them on our plates. Titus came down the stairs with Kohl trailing behind him. "You cooked?" He asked, shocked.

"Don't get excited, this won't be happening all the time." He chuckled then went to get us something to drink.

I sat down in my usual seat as Kohl did the same. Kohl rested his head on the table next to his food. I ran my hand through his hair. "What's wrong munchkin?"

"Tired." He replied sleepily.

"I had to force him to get out of bed." Titus said as he placed the orange juice in front of us. "I'm not a morning person either." I told Kohl.

"Why didn't you let him sleep in?" I asked Titus.

"I want him to meet with Taylor today." He began eating his food.

"Why?" Titus locked eyes with mine. I just want to make sure he's okay...emotionally. He said through our link.

I nodded in agreement.

"Besides, he has to get used to waking up early. He's going to be starting school with the other pups Monday." Kohl's head shot up. "I'm going to school with the other pups?!" He asked excitedly.

"Yes, you and I can go into town after we meet Taylor to get you some school supplies." His eyes lit up. "Okay now eat your breakfast. I almost died cooking that bacon." He smiled then began eating.

Titus shook his head. "You're so dramatic Brinn."

I rolled my eyes. "Whatever."

The hospital was fairly empty once we entered. "Good Morning." Taylor greeted us as she walked out of her office. She looked down at Kohl who was now tucked behind Titus's leg. "You must be Kohl. I'm Taylor." She said as she held her hand out. Kohl hesitated but shook her hand.

"Let's go have a chat in my office." Kohl shook his head then tighten his grip around Titus's leg. "We'll be right outside Kohl." I said to ease his nerves. He nodded then let Taylor take his hand. "Could you leave the door open?" I asked. She nodded then led him to her office.

Titus and I sat down in the seats across from Taylor's office. Titus grabbed my hand and placed it in his. We sat there for about thirty minutes when Alex and Ellie entered the office. "Oh hey you two. What are you doing here?" She asked.

"None of your business." Titus replied dryly. I smacked his arm for being rude. "Oh someone's in a mood."

He shook his head. "She's so nosey."

Alex ignored his comments then placed Elianna in the chair next to me. "I'll be back, stay right here." Ellie nodded.

As soon as Alex was out of view Ellie got up and ran towards the toys in the kids waiting room.

"Well that didn't take long." Titus shook his head. "She's going to be just like her mom."

Taylor walked out with Kohl an hour later. "It was nice talking with you Kohl. Why don't you got play over there for a little?" He looked towards the play area where Ellie was and smiled. Before we knew it he was gone.

"Okay so after talking with him, I saw signs of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder." I ran my hand over my face. "Oh no."

"With counseling and medication he'll be okay. I would like to meet with him twice a week." Titus and I nodded in agreement. "I'm going to prescribe a medication that you can mix with his food. It should help with his nerves, but the bottom line is, he's going to have outburst and episodes. The best thing you can do is be there for him and not treat him any differently."

"Thank you Taylor." I said.

"No problem Luna."

Titus cleared his throat. "You're pretty good with confidentiality Taylor, but I just want to emphasize the importance of this not getting out." He said sternly.

"I understand Alpha."

"Good." Taylor bowed her head then retreated back into her office. Our attention was directed towards the play room as loud giggles filled the room. Ellie and Kohl were drawing pictures while they talked about a tv show.

"Well isn't that cute." Alex said as she stood next to me. "Maybe they're mates." She added with a smile. Titus and I eyed each other with a blank expression then stared back at the pups.

Maybe...
