《The Claim ✔️ *Editing*》31. Waiting Game

My brother, father and I stayed close to my mother's bedside as she laid there unmoving. Her eyes were closed shut as the sound of the beeping monitor filled the room. My father held her hand closely to his chest. Owen gave my hand a reassuring squeeze. His dull green eyes met mine as he stared down at me.
My father stood and walked to the exit, without a word. I turned to go after him when Owen pulled me back. "He just needs time." He explained. I nodded then turned back to my mother.
I pushed the stray strands out of her face and pressed a kiss to her forehead. "I should have told her I was leaving." He whispered.
I straightened and turned to face him. "Don't you dare do this Owen. This is not your fault! I am not going to allow you to blame yourself for this! Okay?" His eyes watered slightly as he nodded slowly.
Taylor walked in a few minutes later. She gave us a small smile. "Luna." She bowed.
"Do you know why she's not waking up?" Owen asked.
She sighed. "Your mother has lost a lot of blood. Her body needs time to recover."
"Is she even going to wake up?" Feeling the anger rising from him, I placed my hand on his shoulder.
"I-I don't know." She stuttered out. I felt my heart sink. If she didn't wake up, Owen and I would be left without a mother. And my father without a mate.
"You don't know?!" I grabbed a hold of Owens arm and ushered him outside of the room.
"What the héll Brinn?!" He shouted once we were outside, drawing attention from other pack members. "Hey calm down. I know you're angry, but yelling at me and Taylor isn't going to help anything. She's doing everything she can O." He shoved his hands into his pants as he looked away.
He shook his head. "I'm sorry." I gave him a weak smile. "It's okay bud. Come on, you need to rest." I held up my hand before he could protest. "Come on."
We got many of stares from the pack members as we walked to the pack house. I was used to being stared down due to my status in the pack, but something about these stares gave me an eerie feeling.

Something was going on...
My mind instantly shifted to Lily. Oh no they found out! They know I killed her, which means...Titus knows.
If a wolf challenges another wolf you have the right to put them in their place. Death was allowed, but we were peaceful packs who tried to stray away from killing. There were some packs that killed for dominance and power, that's wasn't us. Silver Crest fit that category.
"Brinn are you okay?" I nodded, "Yes let's just get inside."
We picked up the pace until we were safely inside. We walked up the stairs in silence, both of our thoughts on different things. When we reached our floor Owen turned to face me. "I'm going to take a shower then head to bed.
"Okay." He pulled me into a tight hug. "Everything will be fine." We were both still hurting, but we needed each other to get through this.
He pulled away, gave me one last look then retreated into his room. I wanted to believe everything would be fine, but once everyone found out I was a murder, I didn't know what would happen. One thing I did know is that I would have to live with this for the rest of my life.
I decide to check on my father. After his sudden departure earlier, I needed to make sure he was okay. I slowly walked down the hall in search of my dad. I took a deep breath as I approached his office door. With shaky hands, I pulled the door open.
He had his back towards me as he scanned the front of the pack house through his window. "Your mate put on quite a show." He said with a chuckle. I couldn't at that point put my hand on it, but something was off about him. It gave me a feeling of uneasiness.
"What do you mean?" I moved further into the room. He shook his head. "Nothing." He grabbed a glass bottle filled with a deep amber liquid. He gulped a big shot of the liquor, that had me squirming in a fit of distaste.
"Daddy stop this." I pleaded. He shook his head and took another sip of his drink. Gathering up enough courage, I walked over to him and snatched the glass bottle out of his hand. "Give it back!" He yelled.

"This is not the way Daddy! Momma would be disgusted at your behavior!" A loud ring was heard throughout the room as his hand collided with my cheek. The sound of the bottle shattering into tiny pieces was heard as well. By instinct I grabbed my cheek and stared at him wide eyed.
"You don't know anything Brinnley! Your mother and I did everything for you! And you disrespect me like this?" My eyes began to water on their own. He was raging with anger.
He was letting his anger out, and sadly I was the one caught in the crossfire.
"I'm sorry." I said in barely a whisper before I left his office. His broken sobs were heard faintly through the door. He would regret this in the morning.
I quickly wiped my eyes and walked towards my bedroom.
Luckily Titus wasn't around to see me when I entered. He wouldn't understand and would instantly want to challenge my dad. I couldn't let that happen. What my dad did was wrong, but I understood that he was hurting. I should have given his spaced like Owen suggested.
I crawled into my bed and brought my knees to my chest. I sighed as I rested my head against the headboard. I wasn't tired due to my earlier nap, but I didn't want to leave my room. The judgmental looks on the wolves faces was reason enough for me to stay right here in my bedroom.
I didn't know for sure if they knew about me killing Lily, but they definitely knew something I didn't. And the more I stayed silent, the more guilt I began to feel.
My wolf and I peeked up at the sound of my brother's bedroom door closing shut. I waited until I heard his footsteps against the creaking hardwood to stand. I made my way towards my window, waiting for him to leave the house. Just as I suspect, a few seconds later he raced out of the pack house. But not before throwing the hood attached to his black hoodie over his curly blonde hair.
He was up to something...
I grabbed my tribal print cardigan and raced for my bedroom door. I rushed down the stairs in a steady pace, determined to find out what my brother was hiding. Anxiousness filled me as the front door came into sight. I walked towards the door, only to be stopped. I knew who it was before I lifted my gaze to his eyes. "Where are you off too?" Ryan held an inquisitive expression.
"On a wa- to visit my mom." I smiled slowly.
He tilted his head to the side. "Which one is it? On a walk? Or to visit your mom?" He chuckled lightly.
I rolled my eyes. "I'm glad you find me humorous." He shrugged his shoulders. "Nah, you're just a horrible liar."
I shook my head. "See ya later Ry." I went around him and made my way to the door.
"You've got 20 minutes before Titus comes looking for you. Let's go with the visiting your mom."
I rolled my eyes then pushed the door open. Shoving my hands into my pockets as the crisp night air hit my face. I walked down the steps on high alert.
I fastened my pace until I suddenly realized, I had no idea where I was going. I stopped in my tracks and took in my surroundings. My mouth morphed into a smile as Genevieve and Carter approached hand in hand. It was good to know they made it out unharmed. "Brinn what are you doing out so late?" Carter asked.
I quickly shook my head. I had no time to make up a lie, and quite frankly I was horrible at it. "Never mind that. Have you seen my brother?" Genevieve beat Carter to the punch. "I saw him walking into the infirmary. We just assumed he went to visit your mother. Which by the way, I am sorry." I gave her a small smile.
"He did have a distant look on his face. It was weird." Carter added.
I furrowed my brows. "It's probably nothing Brinn." Genevieve reassured, before she gave Carter an annoyed look.
"Well thanks for the help. I better get going." I bid them goodbye then made my way to the pack hospital.
I didn't know what my brother was up to, but something told me he intended to stir up trouble. His outburst early was enough to persuade me. I needed to get him out of there now.
