《Of Romance and Revenge》Epilogue

"Come on, Ollie. I thought you said we were taking a break from all the illegal stuff?" I whine as Oliver weaves in and out of traffic.
He has one hand on the wheel, the other one is resting comfortably on my thigh where his fingers mindlessly tap to the beat of whatever song is playing.
I have no idea where we're going.
I'm supposed to be picking up some last-minute decorations for Marley and Mila's wedding, but he insisted on making a slight pit stop for "one last job" before we go on vacation next week.
"Just relax, Cam. It's nothing too crazy, just a little something that will pay for that vacation you've been begging for."
He squeezes my thigh before rubbing his finger in reassuring circles across my skin. I smile to myself at the gesture. His touch still sends tingles through my body, still makes my pulse race like nothing else.
It's his own little way of saying "I love you" without having to say anything at all.
I look over at him and roll my eyes. He has that mysterious half-smirk on his face, the one that tells me he's hiding something from me.
"And what exactly does this 'little something' entail? You know Marley will kill us both if either of us have any visible injuries for the wedding pictures, right?"
"Nothing to worry about, babe. Seriously. It's just some influencer or whatever who's looking to score some party favors for this event they're throwing. I promise, we'll be in and out."
I suppress my groan when I see that we're pulling up to the same marina I got shot at last time. Oliver must have felt my tension, because he cuts the engine and turns to face me, holding my face in both of his hands.
"Are you okay to be here?" He asks, his eyes full of worry.
"It's a little late to be asking that, don't you think?"
"We can turn around and leave if this is too much. I'm sorry, I didn't realize-"
"It's fine," I cut him off, making sure to keep my expression light and unbothered. "Just promise me this person's a lot more friendly and a little less quick to violence."

"I promise. You're in good hands this time, Foster."
He winks at me and gets out of the car, coming over to my side to open my door for me. He takes my hand to help me out of my seat and bows ridiculously at me when I stand up.
"You're in an awfully good mood today," I narrow my eyes suspiciously at him.
Normally he's grumpy and on edge when he's on his way to a job. This playfulness wasn't like him, at least not when he was in work mode.
"Why wouldn't I be? Our best friends are getting married in a few days and then I get to spend a week, naked on a beach somewhere, with my hot girlfriend," he grins.
"Whatever you say, weirdo. Let's get this over with."
He takes my hand and leads me down to a row of docks, away from the cargo ships that put me on edge. This section seemed to be reserved for private docking.
"Damn," I let out a low whistle as we pass by a series of very expensive looking yachts.
They're nothing in comparison to the sailboat at the very end, though. My jaw drops at the sheer size of the thing- it's definitely bigger than the house I grew up in.
"You're telling me someone who sells detox tea and other shit that doesn't work on social media for a living owns this? I think we got into the wrong business, Ollie."
Oliver laughs but I notice him glancing nervously at the boat before turning back to me.
"Actually, uhhh, it's my boat."
I peel my eyes from the massive main sail to look up at him.
"Huh?"
"Yeah, I bought it years ago, just never really had time to use it."
"So there's no job tonight?"
He shakes his head and wraps his arms around my waist, pulling me closer against him.
"Nope. Things have been so crazy lately. I've been working and Marley's been up your ass with all this wedding planning. I just feel like I haven't seen much of you and thought we could have a nice, quiet night to ourselves before their big day."

"But what about all the last minute stuff? I still have to-"
Oliver shuts me up by placing a chaste kiss to my lips.
"All taken care of. I had Freya get everything on your list and drop it all off at the venue."
I beam up at him, surprised at myself when I feel tears stinging my eyes. My heart swells when I realize how much effort he must have gone through to make this happen.
He leads me carefully onto the boat where a blanket and a picnic basket are displayed artfully on the deck. There's champagne and flowers and chocolate covered strawberries laid out on the blanket.
I'm speechless.
"There's real food in the basket if you're hungry, but we can stop and get something on the way home if you don't want any of it," he says quietly from behind me.
I can't stop the tears from spilling now. I try to hide it, try to stop the sobs from wracking my body so he doesn't see, but of course he can tell anyways.
"Hey. Are you okay?"
"Yes," I wail, no longer bothering to hide it. "This is the sweetest thing I've ever seen!"
I turn around to hug Oliver and place a swift kiss to his cheek before practically running to the blanket and sprawling out on it, kicking my shoes off as I do. There's a small crew here to help Oliver get the boat out of the dock, so I stay out of the way and focus my attention on the basket.
Of course it's filled with all of my favorite snacks.
Oliver comes back a while later and lays next to me, propping himself up on one elbow so he can look at me.
"Where's the crew?" I ask him with a mouth full of sushi.
"They got off before we left the dock. Only one stayed behind to steer the boat, but he won't bother us."
I nod distractedly as I continue to pick through the snacks. The sun is just starting to set, casting beautiful hues of pink and orange over the water. We sit in silence as we watch it fall over the horizon and I lay on Oliver's chest, cuddling into him for warmth as the temperature drops.
"It's gorgeous out here," I murmur.
This far out of the city, there's no light pollution- billions of stars light up the night sky, so different from the view at home.
"Yeah, it is," he agrees.
He shifts around awkwardly underneath me until he's leaning over me. My head is supported by his arm that's still under me, and his other hand is fumbling around in his back pocket.
My heart drops for a moment, but I try to convince my mind that he's not doing what I think he's doing.
There's no way he'd propose to me yet. We've talked about it here and there, but he never seemed ready. "In a year or two, when everything is settled down," he'd say.
When he sets the small, black velvet box gently on my stomach, my heart stops completely. My eyes widen up at him and he's wearing that shy smile.
"Listen," he begins, his voice a little breathless. "I know we've talked about waiting and making sure it's the right time. I know we're supposed to wait for Marley and Mila's wedding to be over and for our work to slow down, but I don't want to wait anymore. I've loved you since I was a little boy, Cam. There's no right or wrong time because that feeling is never going to change. So will you marry me, Camden Foster?"
The tears I barely managed to contain earlier were flowing freely once again. I'm sure my makeup is a complete mess, but I don't care.
I wrap my arms tightly around Oliver, forgetting completely about the ring between us, as I mumble a string of yeses into his neck.
He laughs lightly, sounding relieved, as he tries to break the vice grip I have on him.
"Still have to breath, baby," he coughs.
I sheepishly mutter my apologies as he opens the ring box and slide the ring onto my finger. It's a single stone, still a little too big but far more reserved than I expected from him, set in a delicate silver band. It's a perfect fit.
We spend the rest of the night laying under the stars, celebrating in our own little world, all thoughts of anything other than the man next to me long forgotten.
