《Of Romance and Revenge》Twenty Six

I sit on the floor for god knows how long, either unwilling or unable to move- I haven't quite figured it out yet.
The water turned cold a while ago, but I don't pay much attention. I have to get my shit together and regain some composure or Oliver and my dad are never going to let me out of their sight again.
I grip the handrail on the side of the shower and pull myself up slowly, painfully.
"Cam, what's going on in there? Do you need help?" Oliver bangs loudly on the bathroom door three times.
"I'm fine, just give me a minute!" I call back.
There's no way I'm going to let him in here to see me like this. I get dressed quickly- the clothes are a little baggy, but at least they're more comfortable than that god awful hospital gown- and brush the tangles out of my hair.
The sharp sting against my scalp from tugging the knots out of my hair causes my eyes to well with tears and I have to laugh at myself. There's a hole in my chest, but a few tangled strands of hair were quickly becoming my undoing.
I give myself one last look-over to make sure I at least looked like I had my shit together on the outside and open the door. Oliver is hovering right there and my parents aren't far behind him, staring at the bathroom anxiously.
"Jesus," I mutter as I step around them.
"We were just nervous, you were in there a long time," Oliver defends.
"I'm not completely helpless, guys. Believe it or not, I have been known to shower all on my own before, just like a big girl."

Oliver huffs at me and my parents roll their eyes. I know they mean well and they just want me to be safe, but if I let them smother me now, it'll never stop.
As I'm getting myself ready to be discharged, I notice Oliver's breathing sounds painful and short beside me.
"You need to get yourself checked out while we're here. Your nose is definitely broken. Probably a few ribs, too, by the sound of it," I tell him.
"I'm fine."
I stop what I'm doing to glare up at him. He's clutching his side and the bruises on his face are even darker today.
"I'm serious. I won't leave until you get someone to at least look at you."
"I said I'm fine," he replies sternly. "If it'll make you feel any better, I'll have Lydia fix me up when we get back to my house. She's gotten pretty good at it over the years."
I scoff at him and shove his chest lightly, causing him to wince in pain, proving my point. Maybe it'll convince him to have an actual professional take a look at him.
"If you trust Lydia so much, why am I in a hospital right now? Why couldn't she just pull the bullet out and stitch me up?"
He looks at me like I'm a total idiot for even asking and grabs the small plastic bag with my belongings in it for me. We make our way down the hallway towards the discharge desk and he takes a moment to answer me.
"Don't be ridiculous. Your injuries were nearly fatal. You required actual surgery. Lydia can just pop a few bones back into place, stitch up a few spots and I'll be good as new."

"Fine. I hope your nose heals crooked," I say under my breath.
Oliver laughs and swats me on the ass in response. The action cause my heart to skip a beat and my step falters. I'm not typically a clumsy person, but I'm completely caught off guard and I end up tripping over my own feet.
My face is about to meet the ground fast and hard and I brace myself for impact. Oliver's arms wrap around my waist and pull me back up into a half-upright position just before my nose ends up like his.
"Could we just have one day where I don't have to worry for your safety?" He says quietly, his breath fanning my face.
In the process of saving me from myself our foreheads were pressed together and I was looking up at him. My eyelashes flutter against his cheek as he grins down at me with his signature half-smirk.
"Camden?"
"Uhhh, yeah... Yup. Right."
I push on his shoulders to help prop myself up and put some distance between us. I thought we had sorted everything out between us before, in his office, but things are only getting more confusing with him since I've woken up.
Having him as my new 24/7 bodyguard is going to be a real pain in the ass.

Oh, That Russian Accent
"For fucks sake! What did you do?" A very angry voice asks me. Holy shit! That is definitely Dimitri. I can recognize that accent anywhere after our discussion in class today."Holy shit. I'm so sorry. I thought you were a burglar or a rapist following me," I try to apologize. "Shut the fuck up!" He yells, making me flinch. It quickly shut my mouth up though. I didn't like being talked to like that, but then again, I just sprayed him in the eyes with a fuckin' pepper-spray. _____Ruby Derman has to attend college 7 hours away from her home and her dad.
