We're back to Skylar's POV!

••••

My arm screams in agony whilst my mind screams in rage.

Blossom stands over me, a sly smile on her face. Her hands rest on her hips, her long legs seeming like skyscrapers from my low angle. The rest of the school's dance troop stand behind her, some looking sympathetic and some looking smug.

I attempt to stand up, only to fall straight back down. I can't put any pressure on my arm without agony shooting through me and my foot is at an awkward angle where I would need both of my hands to stand up.

My eyes screw shut in pain as I hear the crowd let out a chorus of protests. Opening my eyes, I'm extremely relieved to see that they're not looking at me.

They're looking at their star quarter back who's running towards me.

Axel.

Dragging his helmet off when he's halfway towards me, I would've believed that I'm in an advert set.

But alas, I'm not and the crowd -now realising Axel's direction - is staring right at me.

And I'm not a pretty sight, I'm basically lying down, my one good arm supporting me. The rest of my teammates have gone off to get help and call people, so I'm alone with the devils.

Also known as Blossom and her friends.

But I would rather stay here and wait for help, than have Axel run over and help me.

It's going to cause a massive scene and disrupt the game, the opposite of what I wanted to happen.

This is going to completely destroy my groups chances of representing the school.

But before I can call him off, Axel is pushing people out of his way to get through the crowd and to get closer to me.

The crowd seems to fade out, Blossom's face disappears from my view. In her place, comes the man I've dreamed about for nearly two weeks.

Clothed in his full football kit, Axel's body looks almost edible. His cheeks are flushed from running in the cold and his blue eyes shine like a beacon at midnight. A flood light behind his head gives him the illusion of having a halo, his dark brown hair messy and wavier as usual.

A flood of affection floods through my body and if I wasn't on the floor in pain, I probably would've had to look away.

"What happened?" Axel says, breathless.

His voice triggers a longing in me. Deep and raspy from shouting the whole game, my skin lights up in goosebumps. His voice also brings back a sense of resentment towards him, remembering how he shouted at me in that car park.

"Go back to playing." I say, my voice wobbly from all of the emotions and pain currently going through me.

So much pain.

I try to sit up again, only using one hand this time - but it leads me to just shuffling back slightly on the floor. A sense of vulnerability shoots through me as I realise I'm truly stuck.

I can hear the crowd, referees and coaches all shouting. But they seem to be dimmed out, Axel's voice the only thing that I can hear.

"I'm not leaving you," He breathes out, my stomach clenching at his words. "C'mon, Rob's got his car."

I shake my head back and forth, declining his offer.

We had a fight two weeks ago and I screamed at him. He screamed back, his fears becoming visible to me and after suggesting a break - I've made us both miserable.

I don't deserve his help and he doesn't deserve to save me.

Axels scowls at my answer and runs a hand through his hair. "You're coming with me."

I commence a glaring match with him, not wanting his help. But knowing that I need to get off this floor and get this pain taken away, I eventually give in.

Nodding, I murmur, "Okay."

A small look of achievement passes over Axel's face as he crouches down. "Are your legs okay?" He says, his eyebrows furrowed together.

"Yeah, it's my arm." I groan, the pain reigniting.

Like fire, it turns my whole body burning hot. I suck in a deep breath to keep myself steady.

Crouching down, Axel swings his arm round my back.

It's the first physical contact we have had in half a month. Yet, the butterflies and tingles are still there like it's only been a day we've been apart.

Both of us take a sharp breath as Axel helps me to stand up. I let out a groan as my arm flops down by my side, the cast not doing anything.

It's definitely broken.

"C'mon, I'll take you to the car." Axel ushers, keeping his arm round me.

"It's fine. Emma's in the crowd, she'll come and take me to the car." I say, knowing she's probably making her way towards us right now.

Axel takes his arm off and trails his hand down my good arm. Stoping at the forearm, he squeezes my arm as he looks me dead in the eye. I pull my arm away from his, not trusting my body's reactions.

"Let me help you." He instructs.

"I'm okay, honestly." I say softly, knowing he can hear me despite the roar of the crowd.

"You're not okay, for fuck sake Skylar," He sighs. "Let me walk you to the car or I'm going to pick you up and carry you there."

I start walking.

When we're just about to reach the exit to the stadiums, I turn my head to the side to see Axel walking right beside me. "What about your game?" I say guilty.

If they loose, it's all going to be on me.

"They'll manage, we've got another quarter back on reserve."

Nodding my head, I keep up the pace with Axel. The need to cry is getting stronger by the minute. Mostly because I'm walking beside Axel who I've missed so desperately. The other part is because my arm is still in agony and at this point I would've been glad if I had passed out.

The car comes into view and I let out a breath of relief. Rob and Emma stand beside it, reassuring me that this awkward silence between Axel and I will soon be ended.

"We can't take you anywhere can we, Cupcake?!" Rob shouts as we come closer to the car.

I let out a small laugh which is soon followed by a wince.

Emma comes to my side and places an arm round my shoulders, a sympathetic smile on her face.

"The past few weeks haven't been in your favour, have they?" She says, glaring at Axel.

Axel stiffens beside me, but doesn't falter in taking his next step.

After getting seated in the back seat, Emma comes and straps me in.

I do still have one working arm, but that doesn't seem to stop them caring for me like I'm a three year old.

Sitting in the back with Emma and Rob in the front, I am immediately confused when Rob doesn't start the car.

"Why aren't we moving?" I ask, starting to get irritated due to the pain in my arm.

"Axel's asked for us to wait, he's just gone to grab his bag as well as yours." Rob answers, turning round in his seat to send me a scared smile.

Damn right he should be scared.

"Fuck him, he left me on the street at a party, so I think we can leave him to the hospital. For my broken arm, may I add." I rant, my patience well and truly vanished.

Even though I've been wanting to talk to Axel for the past two weeks, it doesn't mean I wanted him to swoop in and save me like some sort of Prince in shining armour. I wanted to talk to him on my terms and when I felt ready. Not when I'm in the back of a car, nearly passing out from pain.

Tears prick the back of my eyes as I rest my head on the back of the seat, closing them.

A warm hand lands on my knee and gives it a comforting squeeze, opening one eye, I spot Emma smiling at me.

"He's been a dick, we all know that. I want to drive, but Rob is sticking to the bro code. You won't even need to talk to him, just look out the window and we'll be at the hospital in no time." She says in a soothing tone.

I give her a small smile in return and squeeze her hand in my own working one. "Thanks, Em." I murmur, more grateful for my best friend then I ever have been before.

Using my one arm, I text the girls in my dance troop. After reassuring them that I'm going to hospital, they all send me back encouraging messages.

Man, I love those girls.

Axel appears at the exit of the stadium, with both of our bags. I smile at my bright pink one, knowing he must be crying inside with humiliation right now.

Opening the car door, my heart sinks in the realisation that Axel has to sit beside me.

And if it wasn't for the agony in my arm, I would've protested.

But, life doesn't work that way, so when he comes and sits beside me in Rob's tiny car, I accept it.

••••

"Your arm was nearly healed, it was at a crucial stage of recovery. So after this incident that has just occurred, it's halted your recovery. I'm sorry to say that you're basically back at square one, Miss Black." The doctor announces, the his words sending despair spiralling down through my body.

"Is there anything we can do to help with recovery?" Rob asks, sitting opposite me in an armchair.

Emma sits right beside me, an arm throw round my shoulders whilst Axel stands by the wall. Out of his gear, he changed into a navy t-shirt and black joggers. His mouth is turned into a frown, his eyes cast on the floor.

"Just keep doing what you've been doing, her progress before this accident was excellent." The doctor nods, smiling.

"At least that's one good thing." I murmur, annoyed at myself for falling. Again.

"You're free to check out now, just make sure you pick up your pain medication on the way out." The doctor smiles before leaving the room.

We all murmur thank you before starting to stand up.

"Sorry for dragging you guys all the way here and for ruining your night." I say, feeling like I've ruined the night.

The night that was supposed to change my career.

"There is nothing to apologise for and you didn't ruin anything. Nobody could've of done anything to stop this from happening." Axel finally speaks up, turning his blue eyes in my direction.

Rob and Emma nod in agreement and my heart feels as though it's going to explode from their compassion.

"Thank you." I smile, my first proper one in the past hour.

I check out and we all head out of the hospital, Emma and Rob going ahead to get the car. Axel stays behind, walking beside me.

We walk in silence whilst my mind whirls with possibilities of what I was going to do with the boy to my left.

••••

Skylar and Axel have reunited! Was it what you expected? What do you think Skylar is going to do now?!

I felt as though Skylar needed to put up a bit of a fight in this chapter, Axel needs to earn his place here :)

I hope you all enjoyed this chapter!

Much love,
