Baby you light up my world like nobody else
-One Direction
Theo dropped down to the ground.
For the second time since I'd met him, I saw tears running down his eyes like rain.
I choked back a sob when I saw him crying, trying to reach out to him, but the handcuff prevented me. His teary eyes met mine, and they roamed around my figure to check for injuries. I saw a flash of anger flare in them when he saw my wrist, but it was gone. He looked scared. It was the first time I was seeing him be scared.
"An-angel." He managed to stand up, but Noah pushed him down on the ground.
"Don't touch him!" I shouted. Noah glared at me, but made his way over to where I was sitting, making me move away. The gun was still in his hand.
"I-I couldn't do it." He whispered meekly. That was the moment I realized the pain in my hand. I screamed in agony when I saw the bullet embedded in my forearm. Noah panicked, pulling my hand in his but I whipped it away.
I cried out in pain. That seemed to snap Theo out of his daze because he got up and rushed to my side, holding my hand in his, kissing my forehead.
"Move away!" Noah said.
"Now now, big boy. Step the fuck down and hand over the gun to me." Scott appeared from the door. "We don't want any trouble here."
"Who are you?"
Scott smirked. "I'm your worst nightmare, asshole."
Then things happened too fast for me to comprehend. Scott moved towards him, grabbing Noah's hand, making him press the trigger. Another gun shot resounded in the room. I didn't have the energy to turn my head around and make sure everything was okay, because my arm was on fire. It felt like I was dying.
"Shh, here, look at me. Eyes on me, angel." Theo tore a part of the bed sheet, wrapping it around the bullet that was still in my arm.
I whimpered, "It-it hurts."
"I know, baby. I'm so sorry. But you're gonna be fine."
Scott had Noah in a headlock. When I made sure Scott was okay and had the upper hand, I looked away. Noah was stupid, he didn't even know how a gun operated, he couldn't shoot. I bit my lip to prevent myself from screaming.
"Focus on me." Theo whispered urgently. "Baby please keep your eyes open. Look at me, don't look away."
"I-I'm gonna die." I whispered meekly.
"Shut the fuck up." He hissed out. "You were shot in your fucking arm, Mia, not the heart."
I cracked a smile. "But it feels like I am dying."
"I will kill you!" I heard Noah shout. He still had the gun but Scott had a firm grip on his hand, preventing it from moving. His eyes were glaring at Theo's back. "I will fucking kill you."
"COPS!"
Theo heaved a sigh of relief when we heard that. Suddenly the room was surrounded by police officers. One of them grabbed Noah by his shirt, took the gun away from him like it was child's play, and pushed him to another officer.

"No- no! You've got it all wrong. I was trying to protect myself and my girlfriend. These two guys had kidnapped her and-"
"Noah Archway, you are under arrest for the attempted murder of Amelia Parker. Anything you say may be used against you in a court of la."
"Murder of Amelia Parker?" Noah repeated, horrified. "I love her, how the fuck can I kill her?"
"Take him away." The officer flicked his fingers at him, and two others grabbed him again, taking him away. He was still screaming at them to let him go.
"Fuck!" I cried out when I felt another wave of fire in my arm.
"No, fucking shit!" Theo cupped my face. "We're gonna get you to a hospital, okay? You're gonna be okay, everything's gonna be okay."
The sheets had turned red because of my blood. The cloth that he'd wrapped around my arm was also red in color. I was losing too much blood. I knew I was. My breathing was turning harsh. My lungs were beginning to deprive of oxygen.
"Mia, please, don't leave me." Theo sounded panicked. "Someone open that fucking cuff, god dammit!"
A cop came to me, two keys in his hand. He tried the first one, it didn't work. That caused Theo's panic stricken look to increase. When the second key got in and the lock clicked, Theo pulled my hand away from the cuff, holding my wrist in his, his grip gentle and soft. He kissed the bare and raw portion which had started bleeding because of me pulling my hand every time, and then placed an arm around my legs, picking me up in his arms.
"I-I'm getting your shirt dirty." I breathed out and rested my head on his chest.
"You're fucking shot and you expect me to be worried about a fucking shirt?" He said back. I observed my surroundings as he took me down, I hadn't really been awake when I'd come here. We got out of the building and Theo took me to the van that was standing just outside. A nurse emerged from the van, pulling out a stretcher. He placed me on it, kissing my hand, whispering to me that I'd be okay.
"Sir, you need to leave. We have to take her to the hospital. She has already lost too much blood."
He panicked again. "Leave? Why do I have to leave? Can't I come with you? She-"
"Theo," I whimpered. That caused him to bend down to hear me properly. "I'll be fine."
"But, angel-"
"Sir, we need to go immediately." The nurse pushed the stretcher inside the van. I saw him grab his hair, looking around, his anxious eyes meeting mine.
"I love you." I mouthed to him.
The door to the van closed, and I closed my eyes at the same time.
I looked at the tubes attached to her body. She looked so small, so fragile.
I hadn't left her side since they'd brought her here. Her eyes were closed, and when I'd first seen her like that, I'd slid down to the ground, not being able to breathe. But when I saw her chest moving up and down, I'd let out a sigh of relief. The doctors told me they'd given her some sedatives to stop the pain, which had caused her to sleep.

I brushed my lips against her knuckles, kissing her bruised wrist. She hadn't woken up since yesterday when they'd taken out the bullet. Her forearm was bandaged, a painful reminder of what she'd just been through. A reminder of how strong she was.
"You're okay, baby." I whispered to her, wishing she would open her eyes and look at me. I missed seeing her smile, I missed her even though it had just been a day. "We got you in time. You're okay." I was saying that more to convince myself.
The door opened and a furious Bridget entered, her expression looking like she was ready to kill me. Her eyes met mine, and her lips pulled down into a frown. "When the fuck were you going to tell me?"
"You had a paper today-"
"That stupid paper was not important than my fucking best friend!" She hissed. I shifted when she came over and sat down beside me, looking at Mia. Her eyes softened as they roamed down her figure.
She clutched my hand tightly when she saw her wrist and forearm covered by bandages. "I can't believe he would do this to her." She whispered. "She looks so breakable, Theo."
"She's strong." I looked at her. "The strongest person I know."
The door opened again and Mason came in, holding two cups of steaming black coffee. I accepted one gratefully. He hadn't left the hospital since yesterday just like me. He looked tired, exhausted.
"You both can go home and rest." Bridget said. "I'm here with her."
"No!" I clutched Mia's hand in mine tightly. "I'm not going anywhere. The last time I left her alone-"
"But she's not alone now." She whispered to me. "Go and take a shower, both of you. I'm here."
With great reluctance I left the hospital, grabbed some food and took a quick shower. I felt a lot better after that. I'd gotten a call from the police station to inform me about Noah's whereabouts. He was being detained and questioned. He'd taken responsibility for the murder of Mia's father. He would be punished.
When I opened the door to the hospital room again, she was still sleeping. Her mouth was open slightly as small puffs of air left her lips. Bridget got up, patted my back and told me she'd be back tomorrow. I sat down again, holding Mia's hand in mine, playing with her fingers.
Her fingers twitched suddenly and her grip on my hand tightened. I looked at her face in alarm as her beautiful blue eyes opened, scrunching up from the intensity of the light. She looked at her surroundings, and then her eyes rested on me.
My face broke into a huge smile. I stopped myself from kissing every single inch of her face, instead pressed a hard kiss down on her lips. "Don't ever do that to me again, angel."
I gave her a glass of water when she started to speak. Her eyes didn't leave my face, looking cautious. She moved a bit away when I raised my hand to stroke her cheek. "Who are you?"
My hand froze mid way and my smile dropped. "W-what?"
"Who are you? I don't know you."
"M-Mia, what are you talking about?"
"My name is Amelia. I think you've confused me with someone else. I'm not who you think I am, I don't know who you are." She said slowly.
"What the fuck? Did you hit your head or something? Why the fuck can't you remember me? I'm your boyfriend."
She looked confused. "B-but I don't have a boyfriend. You're scaring me, can you please call the doctor?"
I got up suddenly, feeling the ground beneath me vanish. I stared at her to get some kind of reaction, anything to tell me she did know me, but she was looking at me as if I was a stranger. I felt my heart stop. I paced back and forth, pulling at my hair, muttering curses under my breath. She couldn't just not remember me, no.
Soft chuckles filled the room. I whipped my head towards her, seeing her covering her mouth with her hand as she giggled. "Baby, I'm just messing with you."
"What?" I rushed to her side, bending down to look in her eyes, filled with mischief and adore. I took a deep breath when she cupped my face and gave me a kiss on the lips.
"How could I forget you? I hit my fucking arm, Theo." She mimicked me. "Not my head."
I kissed her again, pressing my lips hard against her, hard enough to bruise. "Don't mess with me like that. I was close to having a heart attack."
She clicked her tongue at me and made me sit down on the chair in front of her. "How are you? You look tired, did you not sleep?"
"You were in the hospital, Mia. Sleep was the last thing on my mind."
Her eyes softened. "What, uh, happened to- to him?"
"He confessed." I said, rubbing her palm. "He's gonna pay for what he's done. You don't have to worry about him now."
She shifted to the side, away from me. I raised an eyebrow when she flipped off the blanket and motioned for me to sit beside her. "I don't want to hurt you, angel."
"You won't." She convinced me to lie down with her on the bed. It wasn't like I could say no to her anyway. Her head rested on my chest, just above my heart as I wrapped my arms around her. Everything became perfect all of a sudden.
"How did you know where I was? How did you find me?"
"I had help." I murmured softly.
"I was going to fall, Theo." She looked up at me, and her eyes met mine. "But I didn't. You didn't let me."
"You won't, ever." I smiled softly. "Because I'll always be there to catch you."

And as their stories go, one of them will face the events that unfold in their distant past, as the other one will unveil its mystery predicted by its future. Is it a mistake to challenge fate, after all? *** The world-building is set upon on the universal scale, with dungeon and old-style fantasy. It has a progression that follows with the consistency of a dungeon setting, although it's not what you call a dungeon, but a function of a crystal. There's a lot to take in this novel, but that's all within my intention. I have always enjoyed challenging conventional ideas. The cover is not mine, it's just temporary.
