《Working for Him》Chapter 29

Adam Wilson

"These were not the documents that I asked you for!" I screamed at the replacement.

Thank God he was only temporary. This guy was so dumb, one could argue he was paralyzed from the neck up.

He never seemed to get anything right which was amusing. How did he even manage to snag a degree?

"But sir, you said you needed the files for Alfred Lewis." He argued, never once accepting correction.

"Do these look like Alfred Lewis documents??" I was about to loose my patience with this dimwit.

"Yes that are-"

"Shut the fuck up! They're not! These are for Alfred Levakis!" He mixed it up because the name 'Lewis' also appeared on the documents. That just shows he wasn't paying attention to details.

He looked at me with bared teeth, anger flashing in his eyes.

"But sir-"

"If you're not going to take correction and keep on arguing with me then get the fuck out of my office. I don't need stubborn twats like you who think they know everything."

The idiot eyed me for a few seconds before he left. He was only here on trial and he couldn't even last 3 days!

Working with him was hell. He was extremely defensive and constantly arguing. He refused to acknowledge his wrongs and he became even angrier anytime I called him out for a mistake.

"If you can't take the heat, then leave the kitchen." I murmured to myself before putting the buffon out of my mind forever.

I called Alice and instructed her to get the documents for me. It wasn't her job to do so but there was no one else. I told her to hurry because Mr Lewis would be here any moment.

She wasn't fast enough, seeing as they walked into my office together. Alice quietly set the file on my table and left.

"Adam. It's been a while." He greeted.

"It has indeed. Take a seat." I smiled back. "How are the software security measures turning out."

The last time we did business together, I had provided him with SD-WAN Security.

"They work just fine, but I'm afraid we need more. The company is expanding and there have been some attacks on our police and fire communications systems."

"That's strange. Was it diagnosed?"

"Yes it was. And now we need protection. I need you to hook me up with the latest technology Adam. I cannot afford such risks again. The database I hold is extremely confidential."

"Okay. I'll have my engineers develop a peculiar software for you. It'll take some time though."

I noted it down myself since I just sacked my temp and there was no one else to give orders to.

"Don't worry, you can have all the time you need. So, uh... how is Miss Parker doing?"

My head shot up at the mention of her name.

"What?"

"Sophia, I don't see any sign of her. Where is she?"

I looked through the connecting window of mine and her former office. The blinds were open but the room was empty.

"She's on lunch break." I lied.

I didn't tell him about Sophia's leave because I know he will contact her. He has always had a weird liking towards her. He may even want her to work for him. The thought made me slightly angry.

"When will she be back?"

"Actually, shell be running some errands directly from there. I don't think she'll be back at all."

"Surely she will, she needs to give you a report." He pressed on.

"She'll do that over the phone." I said sternly, hinting that the conversation was over.

"Alright, I just wanted to see her. In case you haven't noticed, she's a beauty."

"Mhm." I nodded in agreement as I wrote a list of instructions down for my engineers. He was right about that, Sophia is beautiful... But! I was highly annoyed at him for talking about her that aspect.

"I've been meaning to ask her out..." He said and my head snapped again "...but I know you'd kill me." He quickly added with a smile.

"Yes. Yes I will." I dared him. My eyes were flashing with anger now but he laughed.

"Don't worry, I know you're interested in her. I'll stay on my lane."

"Brilliant. I'll give my engineers the instructions. You may leave."

"Come on Adam, don't kick me out. It was just a joke."

"I'm not kicking you out, I just remembered that I have an appointment."

There was no one to remind me about my weekly visit to the shrink. It's a miracle I remembered on my own. I was already running late.

"Okay. Let's leave together then."

"Perhaps. I'm stopping by the engineers. You can accompany me and brief them on your complaints about your systems."

After my therapy session, I met with Mason, Fred and Hendrix at a lobster place. Previously we only met occasionally. But now, it has become a ritual.

Without them I probably would be morbid and depressed. Asides work, they're a good distraction from the current dilemma at hand.

"How was therapy today?" Mason asked.

"It was stupid." I said with a mouthful of food.

"You're the one who's not cooperating with him. He tries his best to help you. I've seen his notes and reports. You seem detached."

"The whole thing was your idea anyway. You knew very well I didn't want to do this."

"But you need this, especially now with the lack of Sophia in your life." He said and the other guys chuckled.

The mockery has been non-stop. Every time we meet up, there always has to be at least one joke or parody in reference to Sophia.

"Would you guys ever get tired of toasting me?" Huh?" I asked.

"Never." Fred answered. "We love you too much."

"I agree." Hendrix added. "Speaking of Sophia... Uh, has she finally told you where she is?"

I refused to answer which made them all roar with laughter.

"This is a running joke and it needs to stop. I mean it!"

Words couldn't describe how I felt right now. Ashamed. Embarrassed. Stupid. Those were not enough.

"You know we're just pulling your legs Adam. Obviously, we want you to get this girl... but she's something else man." Mason said.

He was right. She is something else.

Both in a good and bad way.

The good was that she's amazing.

Everything feels right with her. Especially our last night together.

Being with her... having her in my arms the way I did... loving her... everything was just right.

I literally could not sleep in my apartment without thinking about her, the way she lay on my bed, her body in between the sheets, the things we did, ugh, it was just to much!

I had to migrate temporarily from 740 Park to one of my other apartments in the city. I couldn't sleep with the memories we made there anymore.

The bad was that she was completely, totally and utterly confusing! Heck, this was the moodiest woman I have ever had to deal with! Most women just say what they want or at least try to get what they want. Sophia on the other hand is either constantly in denial, or wanting you to make a move without any signals.

Not that I'm trying to objectify her as a woman, but sometimes I do wish she came with a manual that I could study, so I can at least know how to make things work!

"I speak to her every now and then and that should be enough for the mean time."

"Why don't you just trace her call?" Hendrix asked like it was the most obvious thing ever.

"I have thought about that but... it's not very ethical. I want this girl to trust me. I've already spied on her once before and she didn't like it."

Back when I discovered about her and Sean's little tryst in his office through my secret surveillance cameras, she wasn't too happy about that... according to him.

For the record, Sean and I are good now. He and Sophia are no longer together and I couldn't be more happier. He apparently broke up with her because he knew of her feelings for me and they weren't going to work out with me in the way.

As long as he doesn't put his hands on her again then we're good. Our friendship has been restored and I also compensated his house damage by sending him some expensive artwork. It's a good gift because Sean loves art. That's why he got pissed at me for destroying some of the pieces at his house.

"Where do you suspect she is though?"

"Probably back home in Virginia or on vacation. I don't know." I said.

"The first one's more likely."

"Perhaps. Until she tells me herself, I'ld have to pretend not to know."

I had a strong gut feeling she was in Virginia. I mean, where else could she be?

"Enough with this talk about Sophia." Mason said. "Let's focus on dinner now."

A huge plate of live main lobster came and I couldn't agree more with him.

Sophia Parker

I slowly opened my eyes, waking up from a short nap I took for recovery.

Mr Wilson, on the other hand, was restless and still not content. His hands gripped my waist as he kissed down my neck to my collar bone.

"Mmm... glad you're awake." He said, continuing his ministrations.

We'd had sex like three times now but he still wasn't satisfied.

"Mr Wilson..." I whined, not too happy that he woke me up from sleep. I was exhausted.

"Come on Sophia..." He squeezed my breast and nuzzled my neck, making me moan. "One more time, please."

He pulled me closer, pressing his warm chest gently against my back and spooning me. His body engulfed mine and I felt the hard plane of his muscles. Our legs tangled up as we lay naked underneath the sheets. It was the most amazing feeling, ever.

"Just one?" I asked sleepily.

"Yes love. I promise, no more after this." He said as he turned me around to face him.

But even after all the strength and stamina he used up in the 4th round, he still managed to break his promise and sneak in a 5th.

And he transported me to another world each time....

*

"Sophia! What are you thinking about?" My mum's voice snapped me back to reality.

"Huh?"

"You were just staring intently. What's on your mind?"

Oh, nothing. I was just reliving some of the sex I had with my ex-boss.

"Oh, nothing. It's my friend in New York. Her name's Phoebe. I've mentioned her a few times. I'm just thinking about her."

Sophia you liar!

"Oh, you've mentioned her actually. She works with you doesn't she? At least... she used to."

"Yeah, she 'used to'." We both laughed.

It was a Saturday morning and it was quite early. My mum insisted that I go with her to the pool at a social club nearby, where she usually meets with her friends.. It was way to early for this but it was nice to relax here and get my mind off things.

However, this wasn't working for me today as it only made me concentrate more on things that I shouldn't. I couldn't get my mind off Mr Wilson. I was missing him so much.

"I need to make a quick phone call mum." I excused myself in front of her and her friends.

I went somewhere isolated, where no one could hear me. Then I sat on a lounge chair and called him on FaceTime, needing to see him.

After a few rings, a shirtless Mr Wilson answered the phone, his perfect physique on full display on my phone.

That only made things worse!

For someone I've already been having dirty thoughts about, seeing him like this did more things to me...

"Sophia." He smiled like a little kid. "I wasn't expecting a call from you. What are you doing?"

"Missing you. What are you doing?"

"I miss you too my love. I just got back from the gym." He said as he sat down on his couch. His body was actually glistening with a bit of sweat.

"And how was your workout?" I asked admiring his body.

He flexed his muscles arrogantly and smiled at me.

"Ok I get it. You can stop being aesthetic now." I frowned at him, but partly enjoyed the view too.

"Why are you wearing a robe? Most importantly, what's underneath?" He wiggled his eyebrows and I just rolled my eyes.

"I'm at the pool. I'm getting a tan actually."

"By yourself?" He asked.

"Uhhhhm... Yes." I said and he narrowed his eyes at me. "Is there a problem with that?"

"Only if you're lying to me."

"Okay, okay, I'm with some friends." My mum's friends actually. "What's it to you?"

"As my 'girlfriend', it's only normal for me to be concerned about you and the people you're with."

He emphasized the word 'girlfriend'.

"Don't worry about me. I'm fine."

"I'll believe that when I finally know where the hell you're hiding."

"I'm not hiding Adam, I'm just taking a break from all the stress from work. For the first time in a long time I don't have to wake up early, I don't have to sleep early, I don't even have to report to anyone, my life is completely about me now. I make the rules."

"Fine. But you can take a break and be the ruler of your life HERE, by MY side, with ME."

"I know but I also have other things to do here and I just can't-"

"Oh for fuck's sake Sophia! What things?! Huh?! You just told me you're relaxing and now you're saying you have things to do! Where the hell are you and why won't you tell me?! I can easily find out in a second and you know that!"

"I know." I said silently, understanding his frustration.

I'm actually impressed that he hadn't done it by now. For someone who deals with security, there's no hiding from him. Besides that, he could've just easily tracked my phone calls.

"Then why don't you trust me?"

"I trust you Adam, I really do. You just have to give me more time, please. I promise I'll finish whatever I have to do here on time, and then I'll come back to you."

"I need more than just a promise Sophia. I need a date. When will you be back?"

I can't give him a date. I plan to stay longer in Virgina and telling him that would upset him. I need to stay here with my family until everything is okay. My dad hasn't fully recovered yet.

"Sophia, come here! We're taking a group photograph and I want you to be in it!" My mum called me from a distance.

"Who is that?" He frowned at me.

"I'm sorry Adam, I have to go." I said hurriedly. "I'll talk to you some other time, be good okay?"

"Wait, Sophia you haven't answered my question-"

"I will some other time but right now, I really have to go." My mum called for me again.

"Okay."

"Bye Adam." I said before I ended the call hoping that he didn't recognize the voice of my mum. Also, I was happy that I avoided his question. I shouldn't have called him, what was the point of that call?

"Sophia we need you here now please!"

"I'll be there in a second!" I said before I stood up.

***

She's definitely in Virginia. I was 100% certain because I heard the voice of her mother who I had spoken to before. I also traced her call which came on from Richmond. So she lied to me all this time that I thought she was alone.

It doesn't matter anyway because now I know where she is and I'm coming for her.
