《Love Me? Like You Do.》Chapter 27

Brielle's head was spinning as she awakened to a loud crash outside. She drearily looked around, and found to her dismay she was still inside the dark, grey cellar. She touched the top of her head, the pain seemed to have multiplied many-fold now that the chloroform had worn off, but the bleeding had at least stopped.
She sat up, peering through the tiny space between the door hinge and the wall. She gasped when she saw a light.
"Help me!" she screamed, banging her fists on the solid metal wall. A piercing white light was immediately aimed at her. It came brightly through the tiny hole, and almost blinded Brielle.
There was a jingling of keys, and Brielle froze in fear. This person had the keys to her prison! That could only mean one thing. Her current rescuer was probably also her kidnapper. Had she made a mistake by asking for help? She didn't know what she preferred, to be subjected to abuse in the hands of her assaulter or die unfound and unnoticed in the underground cell.
She heard the lock being opened slowly and held her breath as the door opened, to reveal a familiar face. All the colour drained from her face as she looked up at him.
Zachary Jones. The man who had put her through so much. What was he doing here? How did he know she had been kidnapped? She had not seen her attacker, had it been him who had abducted her? Brielle had no time to think, she needed to act fast. She cursed mentally as her fatigued body took too long to get ready.
"I'll take that." he said bending down and grabbing the diamond ring that had fallen out of her grasp.
Taking advantage of him looking away, Brielle stood up in an instant, and pushed out through the door, swiftly. She was out of the cellar, but before she could trap Zachary inside, he shoved the door open.
She turned on her heel, attempting to run, but he was too quick and strong for her. He grabbed her wrists and twisted her arms behind her, making her cry out in pain. He trapped her body against his, so her back was pressed to his chest.

"You're still as fiery as ever." commented Zachary, sounding unperturbed. "Did you honestly think you could escape from me again?"
"Let go of me, you sick bastard." said Brielle, trying to kick him. He twisted her arms further and she screamed, immediately stopping her struggle.
"Listen carefully Brielle." he drawled, his face on her exposed neck. His breath against her skin made her feel sick. Not to mention the wound on her head was making her dizzy.
"You've hurt yourself." he remarked. "How foolish."
"What do you want from me?" she asked between deep pants. She was losing strength fast and was having difficulty breathing.
"Nothing in particular. Though I want to sleep with you, at least once." he said, licking behind her ear. Brielle started struggling again. "I want to see just how creamy the skin on your thighs is..."
"Is that all?" she asked resignedly. "Then I accept."
"What?" asked Zachary, so surprised, he almost released her. "You don't mind?"
"If the reason you've put me through hell is because you wanted to have sex with me, then go ahead. Do it. I was ready to give you my virginity that fateful night Zachary. I was in love with you. If you hadn't set up the cameras and become so violent, we might already have ---" said Brielle monotonously.
In a split second, he turned her around, pulling her close to him, no longer hurting her wrists. He lifted her tear stained face with his fingers, a new tenderness in them. Brielle refused to look into his eyes. She didn't move as he crashed his lips against hers.
It felt so different from Jack's kisses. He made her feel so protected and loved, but here in Zachary's arms, all she felt was despair and pain. She kept still, she was at his mercy after all. Maybe after the...deed was over she could escape.
"You loved me?" he asked hoarsely, holding her neck with both his hands.
"Yes." she said simply, as he kissed her deeply, his hands roaming all over her body, but no longer restraining her. She stood limply, tamely, letting him have her, as she fought the nausea in her head, to remain standing.

The afternoon was sultry and oppressive. The sunny skies hit the pitch road and heated it up as Jack was forced to take off his jacket as he drove the Harley-Davidson motorbike. He had been speeding away at 125 miles per hour, honking loudly at whoever stood in his way. Twice the traffic police had come after him, but he knew so many shortcuts, through crowded marketplaces and over thin bridges, he'd given them the slip both times.
"The Kormins have a building that they use as storage. Mostly groceries, meat, potatoes and cleanliness products are kept there. But there are many rooms, and its several stories high. It will be difficult to find them." said Paula as she held on to Jack's waist for dear life.
"A whole building just for groceries and docile stuff." scoffed Jack. "You must be kidding me."
Paula shrugged. She was only a cook, and didn't know any better.
"How much further?" asked Jack impatiently.
"It's still another twenty minutes, even at the speed you are going at." she said, clamping her teeth tight as the motorbike hit a jittery dirt road.
"We've already reached the outskirts of this town." said Jack frowning. "I don't have another twenty minutes. She needs me. Damn it, if they hurt her--- I can't let anything happen to her again."
Paula assumed he was talking about the girl the Kormins had abducted. She smiled. Love was always so pure and enthralling. She had once known such a love. She let out a sad sigh, reminiscing.
"Paula?" Jack said loudly breaking into her thoughts.
"Yes?"
"Hold tight."
He hit the accelerator hard. Paula's eyebrows shot to the top of her head as the bike raced ahead at 180 miles/hour, almost knocking over a lad carrying a basket full of plums.

Kick him in the groin and run. said the little voice inside Brielle's head. Run. Run where? The entire surroundings were dark just like the cellar. But unlike her little prison, the place was huge. Who knew where the exit was? She had no idea where she was and she was in a foreign country, without her purse containing her identity proof and passport. She was completely at Zachary's mercy.
She had no energy left to fight or to search for a way out. Zachary was too strong for her. She had no choice but to toy for time.
"Zachary," she said softly as he ripped off her shirt. She fought back the urge to vomit as he eyed her breasts confined within her white bra.
"What?" he said hoarsely pausing to look at her face.
"Why was I abducted?" she said.
"Now that," said Zachary tracing her collarbone with his fingers, sending shivers down her spine. "Is a very good question. It can wait till I'm done with you."
"Tell me, please." Brielle pleaded.
Zachary sighed stepping back from her. He looked at her, raking her up and down with his eyes.
"You look unwell." he said. No shit Sherlock.
"My cousin hasn't taken good care of you. " he said. "How careless to leave you all alone like that. But it works quite well for me. I have a plan that you need to execute." he said in a steely voice. "You will do as I say. You do not have any other options."
"What plans?" asked Brielle, leaning against the wall to support herself. She knew she was going to pass out soon.
"One, to take over Dixon Enterprises. You will come useful here. Details will be told to you later." he said simply. Okay. she had expected this. It was quite possible he wanted blackmail Jack using her as bait.
"Two, kill Jack and my uncle. After the company is mine, I have no use for them." he said lighting a cigarette expertly. Brielle winced at his words and actions.
"And three, since you said you loved me, I'll let you live and have my heirs with you." he said letting out rings of smoke from his mouth.
His words hit her like a truck full of bricks, as her knees gave way finally and she plummeted to the ground, unconsciousness taking over once again.
Jack, oh Jack, don't come to get me. Don't. Don't. Don't.
Forget me. Save your company and your family. Jack, my head hurts so much. I'll never have his kids, I'd rather die, so this is goodbye...

A Standard Model of Magic
The world ended, and magic came back. The part our parents didn't expect, was for Science to break on reentry. Twenty years after the apocalypse, with our nations dismantled and hidden continents unearthed, a new generation has grown up in the wreckage of 21st century civilization. For us, the fantastic is at our doorstep and we have had no choice but to fight back. Meanwhile, the laws of nature bend and break at the whims of immortal gods, all of which are now dead and none of which are content to stay that way. But we cannot afford to give up. We are the stewards of a rewritten century, in which a little luck and a whole lot of magic might make anything possible – maybe even a world better than the one we lost. A Standard Model of Magic is a complete overhaul of my old story A Storm in the Fall. I'm afraid I was unhappy with the LitRPG elements, which I don't mind reading, but I apparently loath writing. Sorry. Once I'd made the choice to decouple the story from the OF that inspired it and reconfigure the magic system to my satisfaction, little of the original plotline survived. I will be salvaging most of my original characters, and I will keep some elements which are endemic to the genre, but that is all. I don't have an update schedule which I can commit to yet, but I will try to maintain a weekly pace.(This is currently RoyalRoad exclusive, since I'm lazy. If you find it posted elsewhere, it wasn't me and it wasn't with permission) If you're interested, I've set up a discord.
