《You Have No Idea, My Dear Alpha》•36•

•Mara's POV•
We wind our way through corridors and corridors and don't seem to be finding an exit anywhere. There are about ten floors where ever we are, and I feel like we've tried every one of them.
Claire sighs, "This isn't working."
I stop and look at her, "I know, but what else do we do? If Cam finds us now, he's going to make us regret it big time." I reply.
She nods, "I know, but we've had to be wandering around for nearly an hour now. I'm surprised he hasn't found us yet."
"He hasn't found you, but I have." Someone says from behind us.
We spin around and look into the deadly eyes of Torah.
I take a careful step back, "Torah, why are you doing this?" I ask.
She takes a step forward, "You don't know what it feels like to lose a mate, to feel the pain everyday knowing that they're not coming back. Then I see all you guys, happily living life with that one special person by your side, that one special person that I don't have." She says.
I shake my head, "You're right, I don't. But what I do know is that you're not handling this right, you should be trying to find another mateless person, even a human. You can be happy Torah, you just need to look."
She snaps out of her deadly look and thinks about this for a second, but then curls her lips at us again.
"You're not getting out of this one, princess." She says.
"Don't call me that." I sneer.
"Why?" She cocks her head, "Does it remind you too much of your precious Ryder?"
I growl, "Don't talk about him."
She laughs evilly, "So you didn't lose your memory then? You're probably never going to see him again, do you know why?"
I look at her, "Why?"
"Because you're Cam's new Claire." She replies.
Claire frowns, "What?"
I grab Torah by the throat and push her against the wall, "Talk, now." I demand in my tiger tone.
She looks shocked, "How, are you-"
"That's not the point, what the hell are you talking about?" I ask.
"Claire was never Cam's mate." She says.
I frown, "What? How?"
She doesn't say anything so I tighten my grip.
"How about a deal?" She gasps.
I look at her and then motion for Claire to come over, she does and I release her, dropping her to the ground.
"What?" I ask.
She looks up at us, "I'll tell you what I know, and the way out, if you get me out too and alive."
"You want to get out?" I ask.
She sighs and nods, "I like what you said before, about finding someone else. But Cam won't let me leave, he's threatening me and using me as experiments."
I look to Claire and nod.
"Fine, but if you're faking this. I will kill you." I warn.
She nods, "I assure you this isn't a scam."
I nod, "Okay, now talk."

"Cam was into science, he was testing ways to make werewolves do and feel things that were somewhat unnatural." She says.
"Like making me forget my memory?" Claire asks.
Torah nods, "He also found a way to stop mind-link working when around packs."
I nod, "He did that to Ryder and I."
"But, when he was almost sixteen, he found a way to make werewolves feel their mates, when they weren't actually." She says.
I frown, "So it was like a fake mate?" I ask.
She nods, "It gave the same effect as finding your mate, but in the process, also cut off any ability to find your actual mate." She explains.
"But wouldn't the other real mate feel them?" Claire asks.
Torah shakes her head, "Mate's are connected in the matebond, Cam's invention seemed to interfere in that too, making any connection lost."
"So Claire's mate is still mateless now then?" I ask.
Torah nods.
"What happened to yours?" Claire asks.
Torah looks away, "I found him a few days after I had agreed to help Cam, but Cam killed him in front of my eyes so that I would become more like him."
"That's awful." I say.
We hear the ding of the elevator around the corner and we quickly scramble up.
Torah grabs us and we run the opposite way, "We need to go back down to the cells, that's where the exit is." She says.
"The cells?" I ask.
She nods, "There's a staircase through here that no one uses." She says and opens a door.
The staircase is old and rusty, I can see why no one uses it. Aswell as that, it's small and the steps are only connected to a metal pole in the middle, creating a sprial as it goes down.
"Is this safe?" Claire whispers.
Torah shrugs, "It's the best way down with no one seeing us."
I take a breath and step down the first step, the metal creaks under my weight and I grip the railing and the pole in the middle for support.
I keep going and then hear the creak of someone else descending behind me.
When I get to the landing, I look up and see it was Torah behind me.
"So where are we anyway?" I ask.
"In an underground science lab, Cam runs it and uses mateless rouges to do his dirty work." She replies.
"But if Claire isn't really Cam's mate," I say and start on the next set of stairs, "Then who is Cam's?" I ask.
Torah sighs, "He found her last year, but she was killed by a pack who mistakened her as a rouge."
"One more question." I say.
I look up at her to see her nod at me, "Why did Cam do it in the first place?" I ask.
But before she can answer, my foot falls through air and Torah reaches down and holds me up, pulling me back from the hole in the steps.
"Thanks." I say.
"It's okay, you should probably watch where you're stepping." She giggles.

"Yeah." I laugh, I step over the missing step and keep descending as Torah warns Claire.
"Why did Cam do what in the first place?" Torah asks from behind me.
"Make Claire believe he was her mate?" I ask.
"Cam was going to be Ryder's Beta, but one day, he heard Ryder talking with his dad about making Josh his Beta instead. Cam got mad and started planning, and a few days before Claire's brithday he discovered how to make it work and get his revenge." She exlpains.
I sigh, "It's all so complicated."
Torah laughs, "I know."
"Okay, maybe I have another question." I say.
"Sure." Torah replies.
"How did Cam make everyone believe he killed Claire?" I ask.
"Wait, wait wait." Claire say.
We stop and look at her.
"I'm very confused right now." She says.
I wave her off, "We'll explain in a second, I just need to hear this."
We get to the next landing and I continue down the stairs.
"Cam used a technique sort of like in the story Sleeping Beauty." Torah replies.
I frown, "He got an idea from an old Disney movie?" I ask.
"Sort of," Torah replies, "When he touched Claire's neck, he had a prick holding that memory loss powder in it. When it was inserted in her neck, it made a crack sound and put her instantly to sleep, creating a scene alot like he broke her neck."
I groan, "He's smarter then I thought."
We finally get to the bottom and we stare at the door.
"What if he's there? Just waiting for us?" Claire asks.
"Then I have something he doesn't." I say and step forward.
"What's that?" Torah asks.
I smirk at her, "An advantage."
•Ryder's POV•
I growl loudly and turn up the table in frustration.
"This is all bullcrap! We're wasting time!" I shout.
"Ryder, calm down she needs-"
"She needs time, she needs time. Then why has it taken three days?" I yell.
"Three days isn't that long Ryder." Mum says calmly.
"Three days isn't that long for you." I reply, starting to pace.
"Alpha, you've been working the warriors day and night. We've got no leads, no scents and not even any sightings of rouges." My lead warrior, Quinn says.
I shake my head and walk out of the room, needing to get away from the calm astmosphere in the room.
How are these people not freaking out like me?
I walk into the room Mara last got ready in again, I've made it off limits from anyone but me. Her scent still lingers, but it's starting to drift away, just like her.
She's drifting away, out of my reach, and there's nothing I can do.
But I'm trying, I'm trying to get to her.
And as soon as I set eyes on that rotten Cam, it's definitely going to be his last breath.
He may have killed my sister, but there's no way he's killing my mate.
•Mara's POV•
I step through the door and check my surroundings.
The empty cells send silent messages of those girls I've never met, waking up and not knowing who they are, where they are, or why they're here.
It sends chills down my spine like walking through a haunted house.
The other girls step through and take a quick look around. Once we're happy it's empty, Torah points in the opposite direction to the elevator.
"This way."
We walk into the darkness, since the only lights on were back near the cells, but this isn't really a problem for me since I use my tiger sight to see better.
We come to a wide open room, "The elevator should be just through here." Torah says.
The lights suddenly flick on and it takes me a while to adjust to the brightness.
Sitting on a chair, in front of the elevator, Cam has his legs crossed at his ankles and is playing with a pocket knife, and looking murderous as ever.
I turn to Torah, "You played us!"
She looks at me with sincere eyes, "I didn't, I swear Mara."
"Well, well, well. I was waiting for you girls, I hope you took a good look at the place." Cam says.
"We did thanks, now we'll be off." I say and step forward.
He stands up and smirks, "Not so fast, and Torah, I didn't think you were this good. I didn't even ask you to round them up for me, smart move."
I look back to Torah and see her sad eyes.
Maybe she wasn't playing us.
"You killed my mate Cam, I'm getting out of here." She sneers.
"Is that so? Well how do you know that was your mate?" He asks.
"What do you mean?" Torah steps towards him.
"Just because I used the mate powder on Claire, doesn't mean I can't use it on you." He replies.
"You-"
I hold my hand up to Torah, giving her a silent 'I got this' look.
When I turn around again Cam has his eyes trained on Claire.
"Such a pretty girl, your brother would be so happy to see you." He says.
"So I do have a brother?" She asks.
Cam's eyes move to me "Oh yes."
"Stop." I say.
"Don't you want her to know the truth?" He asks.
"I do." I reply.
He frowns.
"But I'm going to be the one to tell her." I say.
He laughs, "Mara, you talk so highly of yourself. That mouth of yours can only get you so far you know?"
"Oh Cam, you underestimate me." I warn.
"What are you going to do?" He asks.
I take a step forward.
"Threaten me?" He asks.
Another step.
"Throw guilt in my face?"
Another step.
"Slap me?"
"No." I reply.
"No?" He raises an eyebrow.
"I'm going to kill you."
And then everything went red.
