《The Lilly Within the Ashes》Ch 19

I watch Lilly sadly close the front door. I know I hurt her feelings by not giving her a glance, but I couldn't look at her or I might have broken down. Once I heard the seal of the door close behind me, I looked over into Anthony's eyes.

"He's coming."

Before I broke into sweats, my stress levels breaking through the roof, and the safety for Lilly becoming my main priority, I was having lunch with my mother. I made us some turkey sandwiches and had us sit at one of the tables in the garden.

"Okay young man, tell me about the women that has you wrapped around her finger?" A blush rose to my cheeks. I never planned to talk about Lilly with my mother so soon, but I guess better now than letting the whole topic linger on.

I started telling her about my Angel and found myself unable to stop. I started from the very beginning when I found her shivering in the fridge, to the present where we finally confessed our feelings. My mother was shocked on what happened to Lilly's parents and chuckled at my lame attempts to seduce the innocent Angel.

"Mom?" She gazed over at me to let me know she was listening. "I am really happy to see you, but why did you visit me a week early?" Her face instantly dropped to confusion. "Jason honey. Didn't your brother inform you he was coming over this week? I haven't seen either of my boys in so long, so I thought I would just kill two birds with one stone by coming a week early."

I felt my face pale. My breathe hitch. I soon started breaking out in sweats and panic started to course through me. "N-no I was not informed of his visit." She chuckled a little. "Well your younger brother has been busy. With his job and just getting married, I think he just thought he informed you already but really didn't." I nodded my head, showing her I was listening, but I wasn't. In fact, I was freaking out and zoned her out the moment she mentioned my brother. I excused myself and told her I would see her at dinner.

I briskly walked out of the garden, through the house, and out the front door. I took the cigarette box from my pocket and lit one up. The moment the lung killer touched my lips, the car holding Anthony and Lilly pulled up. They removed themselves from the car, both with worried looks on their faces. I stomped on the cig, hoping Lilly didn't inhale the fumes once she reached me.

"He's coming."

Anthony instantly paled at my words. "What are we going to do boss?" I never seen Anthony this frightened except for the time he heard of his sister's accident.

I slowly entered the house with tears slowly forming in my eyes. Before I could take myself to the family room to watch tv to clear my mind, Jason's mother stood right in front of me. "He-hello Ms. Attel." I whispered. She gently smiled at me. "Come Lilly. I think I have an apology to make."

She led me over to the couch, patting down on one of the cushions, informing me to sit. A blush rose to my face since she was patting the exact spot that Jason and I were making out not even a few hours ago. Once I finally sat, Ms. Attel grabbed both of my hands and looked into my eyes. "I first would like to apologize for my crude words. Although there is no excuse, I just want to protect my son. He may be a giant man that is a mafia boss, but he is also a man with a heart for those he loves." I nod in understanding. "I also want to apologize for you getting stuck with my son." I sat there not understanding what she meant by that. "Um okay?" I reply.

She noticed I didn't understand her, causing her to laugh even more. "You letting Jason know of your feeling for him, only causes his want to protect you and to make sure you are only his to grow. Trust me dear. I would know since I married one of them and birthed two of them." She started to chuckle at my look of worry. "Is your family a bunch of cave men?" She must of thought I was joking from my statement because she started laughing harder. But I was actually dead serious.

We continued to talk after I told her I accepted her apology. She told me that Jason told her everything and she wanted to know more about me personally since her son couldn't "shut his trap" about what he thought of me. After getting to really know Jason's mother, I told her I was going to look for her son. She waved and said she would see me at dinner.

I searched in his office, our room, the bathroom, and the gym, but I couldn't find him or Anthony. Maria already left for home, so I couldn't ask her. My only conclusion was the basement, but I vowed after seeing Jason come out of that door covered in blood, that I would never venture down there.

I realized that time passed very quickly from talking to Ms. Attel to searching for Jason that it was dinner time. Getting excited that I would see him for the meal, I made my way over to the dining room. My heart dropped when I saw the room empty. I sat in my chair and moments later Ms. Attel entered. We talked for a bit until the food arrived.

The entire dinner, neither Jason or Anthony showed up. Worry and anger was all I was feeling. I was worried since Jason looked almost scared when I saw him on the front steps. I was angry because he told me he would see me at dinner but never showed.

After wishing Ms. Attel a goodnight, I stomped up the stairs, not in a happy mood. I reached our room and the body on the bed almost gave me a fright. There Jason sat, with his elbows on his knees and his hands tangled in his hair. His clothes were wrinkled and his eyes looked empty.

"Jason?" I whispered once I stood in front of him. His arms shot out, grabbing my waist, and pulling me close to him. He buried his face into my stomach. I placed one hand on his back and the other in his hair. I combed my fingers through his hair, causing a groan to escape from him. "Are you okay?" He then pulls me down onto my lap and gives me a quick peck. Suddenly he seemed to not just like a peck and gave me a bruising kiss that showed me things were not okay with him.

Once his warm, chapped lips left mine, I stared at him in shock due to the unexpected kisses. "I don't want to scare you." He hugs me close to him, tucking his head into my neck and inhaling a large breath. I giggled and started to rub his back again. "Jason at this point, there really isn't many other ways you can scare me." He untucked his head, showing me a small smile. Just as quickly that smile had appeared, it soon disappeared with a frown replacing it. "Tomorrow I'm sending you to a cabin I own." I was about to argue, but he continued before I could get a word in. "Lilly you can not argue with me on this. Your parent's killers are still out there and I need you safe. Don't worry, I have a few of my men and Maria are going with you as well."

I formed a pout and tried to remove myself from his lap. His arms tightened on my waist, stopping my escape. "Why can't I stay with you? I know you will protect me." An annoyed sigh is what I received. "Lilly I am doing this to protect you. If god forbid anything happens to you, I will never forgive myself."

Deciding to just not argue with him, I nod my head. "I guess there will be a rain-check on our date?" He chuckled and pecked my lips again. "Yeah lets rain-check."
