《Loveless Marriage》Chapter 25

Everything is definitely not ok...
In the next few days, Matt was back and had not left me out of his sight. After receiving strict instructions from Daniel, Matt would park the car and walk into the hospital with me. He would demand my schedule for the whole day and if I did not have any surgeries he demanded that I meet up with him every hour. We would have lunch together with Joseph and Matt definitely had reservations about Joseph because of his chirpy behavior.
Joseph suspected something was about to happen because of all the security measures. I did too. Now I was back home with Daniel. One minute I was sleeping peacefully and the next I hear a gunshot ringing through the air. Daniel and I both sat up hurriedly as sweat started to drip down my forehead. Daniel jumped out of the bed and sprinted out of the room while telling me to stay in the room. I had been sitting for a while but the doubt of what had happened to who got me out of our room.
I sprinted down the stairs to see Daniel rushing out of the house. I ran after him only for him to speed his car away. Confused as to what was happening, Brother's hand radiated warmth on my shoulder. " He will be fine, do not worry." He assured. " Who got shot?" My voice trembled, as I looked up to him. Brother took a deep breath before replying, " Matt, your bodyguard." I felt as if a bucket of cold water was poured over me. " What?" My voice squeaked as I backed away from him. A look of regret passed Brother's face.
" Take me to him, please," I begged him until he nodded. The ride to the hospital was excruciatingly long and my worry increased tenfold. When Brother stopped in front of the hospital, I jumped out of the car and rushed to find Matt. After attaining the necessary information, I ran to the ward to find Daniel sitting outside of the ward with his head in his palms. " Who shot him? Who shot Matt, Daniel?" I asked across the corridor.
My voice traveled to him fast as it was dead silent at night. " I don't know, Hannah," he replied, looking back down at the floor. " Did the security cameras not show anything? How did Matt get shot if there was so much security around the house?" I asked, moving towards him and taking a seat next to him. " The shooter knew the entire security system to the back of his palm. He knew where and how to hide in a way that we cannot even identify his height. The only thing that we can be certain of is that the person is a male. The police have been informed, Hannah. They will get to the bottom of this," Daniel reassured, placing his palm on my thigh.

" This is all because of me, is it not? I am the reason Matt got shot. If only I had just kept my mouth shut and acted as if everything was fine, Matt would not have been shot. If only-" I paused as I started to sob, the weight of Matt getting injured because of me laying heavily on my shoulders. Daniel pulled me to his embrace and pressed my head against his chest gently. The nurse came out of the operation room and Daniel and I immediately stood up to ask about Matt.
" He is suffering from a serious injury. The bullet pierced very near to his heart. Luckily, the bullet did not injure the heart in any way. He is heavily sedated but you can go and visit him." The nurse finished and walked away from us. Daniel and I rushed inside his hospital room to see Matt lying on the bed.
This sight brought a fresh wave of tears. Carefully picking up a chair and placing it silently next to him, I sat down beside him hoping to be some sort of moral support to him. Daniel did the same thing and sat beside me. " It wasn't your fault Hannah," Daniel tried to assure me. I just shook my head slowly and let the silence in the room create raging thoughts in my mind.
I had not been going to work. Matt woke up last night and I had been trying my best to take care of him. But he forcibly shooed me out of his room to go to work. Daniel made his visits at night, sitting next to me and having his gaze on Matt's sleeping form. I informed Joseph about the incident and also applied for leave at the hospital.
But since Matt threw me out, I had been getting ready for work. After showering, I walked towards my closet and had settled for my regular clothes when Daniel walked into my room via the door between our rooms. " Ah ah ah. You are not going to wear that today." He chided me while walking towards my closet. " And why is that Daniel?" I asked, stepping back a little and giving him some space.
" Because change is good. Change makes you happy and seeing you happy makes me happy," He replied as he peered into one of the few shopping bags that I had yet to remove. " This should be fine. Come on, go wear this and stroll our like the model you are," Daniel shoved some clothing into my hands. I shook my head in disapproval and walked back to my bathroom and started to change out of my bathrobe and into the clothes and Daniel had given me.

He had given me a pair of black stockings, a leather buttoned-up orange skirt with pockets, and a long-sleeved v neck blouse with white and orange triangles at the neck. Without commenting on it, I changed into it and looked at myself in the mirror. Did I really want this change? As much as change is necessary for life, do I want to change myself like this? With these thoughts running through my mind, I walked out of the bathroom while fiddling with my bracelet given by Daniel.
Daniel looked up from his handphone as soon as I walked out. A soft smile played on his lips and his eyes grazed over my physique. " You look great, Hannah. See, change is good once in a while," Daniel commented, walking over to me. " Are you sure? Is this fine? I do not want to look so out of place..." I questioned, fiddling with the bracelet even more. Daniel softly pulled me into his arms and muttered, " You look beautiful," My face turned crimson and I pushed myself furthermore into Daniel, not wanting him to comment on my red face.
After a little bit more small talk between us while we got ready, we left our room to have some breakfast before leaving for work. Brother looked stunned to see me wearing something so out of the ordinary which did tempt me to go back up to change back into my normal clothes. But Daniel insisted that Brother get used to seeing me like this. The morning went by pretty fast and I was driving to Joseph's house. Instead of being surprised, he shouted out " Yes bitchhhhhh" out so loud that I wondered if I needed to go get my ears checked.
Everyone who knew me at the hospital was surprised to see me look so different but no one commented on my choice of clothes for the day. The day also went by pretty fast but I could not help feel as if something is going to happen. It was convenient that Matt had been admitted into this hospital. Before leaving for home, I visited Matt and asked him a couple of questions about his health. Whether he was feeling any sort of pain or if he was feeling feverish or lightheaded. When he started to get pretty annoyed with my questions, he diverted the topic to my clothes.
A light blush fanned my cheeks as he asked why the sudden change. And I told him what Daniel told me. " Someone once told me that change is a good thing once in a while," I replied, looking back at Matt. Based on the smirk that was sitting very stubbornly on his face, I deduced what he knew exactly who I was talking about. After chatting with Matt a little bit more, he threw me out once again saying that he needed his beauty sleep.
There was a smile gracing my lips while I walked out of the hospital. Joseph had to go home early because his mother was making dinner and his mother's cooking was awesome. Daniel asked me to come home immediately because he wanted to show me something. The wind that was blowing was a little too chilly for, honestly, anyone's liking. My clothes were warming me up to their best. After I got into the car and turned the heater on, my phone rang.
Seeing as it was from Daniel, I picked it up immediately. " Are you on your way home now?" Daniel asked, sounding a little raspy. " Yes, Daniel. I just got into the car and heating myself up." I informed him, rolling my eyes a little. " Well, reach home faster. I miss you..." He dragged, making my cheeks rosy. " Yes, yes. I mumbled back to him and disconnected the line.
Before I could start the engine, the front passenger seat car door opened
