《Loveless Marriage》Chapter 14

"Hannah! Hannah! Hannah, respond to me! Fuck!" Daniel shook my now upright body as vigorously as possible. I managed to snap out of the memory but the tears refused to stop. I blinked multiple times to stop the tears. Suddenly realizing that Daniel was near me, I jumped away from the bed and him.
" Hannah, what's wrong? Talk to me," he pleaded, getting up from the bed. I help my palm out to him, signaling him to stop there as I looked around for a way to get away from these four walls. " Hannah," Daniel dragged my name out. My eyes landed on the door separating my room and his. I ran around him and twisted the door knob. " Hannah," He called out once more as I tugged the door open and ran to the other side. I shut the door and locked it from my side. I leaned against the door as sobs poured out from my mouth.
" Hannah, please open the door. Tell me what is wrong," Daniel knocked on the door multiple times. I harshly placed the back of my hand against my mouth to muffle my sobs. I continued to sob as his voice rang through my head. After sometime, my breathing started to slow down as my tear ducts sealed shut. I wiped the tears off my face and walked to the bathroom. I stared up at my face, acknowledging the traces of my tears. I stripped off my nightwear and turned the cold water on. I stood under the shower as dull as I felt.
I scrubbed my body hard until I was satisfied and turned the shower off. I did not want to face Daniel anymore. After what happened, I knew that if I faced Daniel, he is going to ask what was wrong. I opened my closet and picked my usual long-sleeved button down shirt and a pair of jeans. After donning it, I put my hair up into a messy bun. I picked my go-to bag and filled it with and extra set of clothes with my coat, deodorant and picked up the car keys. I stuffed my phone in my pocket, slowly opened my door and peaked out.
Daniel's door was still closed on my right. Mom and Dad's room door was also closed. I slowly walked out of my room and closed my door slowly. I ran down the stairs, cautiously looking around to see if anyone was around. I walked-ran to the garage and unlocked my car. I sat in and sent a quick text to Joseph that I will be outside his house in a while. As I drove out, I saw Daniel running out of the house. He looked at me before settling his hands onto his waist. I quickly averted my eyes and focused on the road.

I pulled up outside Joseph's house and he practically skipped out. A smile peeked out and stayed as he got into the passenger seat. He put his seat belt on and then turned his head to me. His cheerful face turned sour as he examined me. " Hannah, let me be honest. Your clothes suck!" He said, acting up like a child. " Well I am sorry, my lord. But I am not able to purchase anything else because my pockets are not as deep as yours," I replied to him, slightly bowing my head to him before pulling my car back to the road.
" Well then, we are going shopping today! I love to go shopping!" Joseph squealed. I wanted to go against his idea but I realized that this way I can avoid reaching to Daniel's house with everyone awake. " Sure, we can go, but you are not buying any clothes for me." I replied, sternly. He just ignored me and turned the music on. But before the song could play, Daniel called. I stiffened visibly and Joseph caught onto that.
" Hannah, did the both of you fight?" He asked, holding my hand. I immediately ripped it off from his gentle hold. I turned to look at him. He looked hurt but tried to hide it. " I am sorry, its just a bad morning." I apologized, pulling the car into the parking lot. " It is fine, I'm still just getting into terms with your phobia. So, aren't you going to answer the call?" He asked, unbuckling his seat belt. I looked away for a few seconds before shaking my head.
" Hannah, you aren't going to be able to avoid him forever. Is this because he kissed you yesterday?" He asked, turning the music off. " Joseph, I... I really do not want to talk about it. Can we just go?" I asked, hoping that he will understand. " Of course, Hannah. How about I answer that call for you?" He suggested, opening the car door. I picked my bag up and got out of the car as well. " It is fine, Joseph. Thank you for your help." I thanked him, looking up at him.

After dropping Joseph home, I drove as slow as I could to the house. I could not help but feel that something big was going to happen.

All I can hope for is that Daniel does not shout at me.
It was around eight thirty when I pulled the car into the underground garage. I looked at the shopping bags at the back before letting out a sigh. Making a decision, I decided to leave them be and take them tomorrow. I got out of the car and slung my bag onto my shoulder. I locked the car and walked to the door. I opened it and walked in, thinking that everyone had gone bed. I looked up and got the scare of my life.
My eyes widened as my eyes bounced of each of the faces in the living room. To say that my jaw had dropped would be an understatement. Mother, Father and Brother were sitting on the couch and talking to Mom and Dad. Daniel was leaning against Dad's chair. All of them had yet to notice me.
Maybe I can escape while I can?
I was about to turn to the door when Mom called me out. " Hannah dear, you are going to ruin your health if you reach home at this time!" She exclaimed, grabbing the attention of everyone. All head whipped around fast to catch the culprit Mom was talking about. I could read everyone's emotions and thoughts upon me.
Mother had her usual look of disgust for me while Father had his usual hatred for me. Mom and Dad had their concerned looks for me, probably worrying why I was turning up home late. Brother had an unreadable face, as he did not have any types of feelings for me. Daniel was pissed, he was beyond angry. I gulped down, thinking of how to deal with all of them at once.
" If you would excuse us, we would like to talk to Hannah for a while," Mother informed, standing up and dusted off the imaginary dust particles. " Sure! Hannah, bring your family to the balcony. You can talk there." Mom suggested. I cringed when she said family. I walked in front as Mother, Father and Brother walked behind me. I let them into the balcony first then closed the door.
" Hannah, where were you?!" Mother forced the words out of her as distastefully as possible. " I had work, Mother." I replied obediently, lowering my head. " I do not believe you! You were whoring yourself out there!" She shouted, pointing her perfectly manicured finger at me. " No Mother, I-" Her hand flew across my face. " You do not defy me!" She shouted once more. I nodded my head, lowering it and keeping my vision to my shoes.
" The Youngs want a grandchild, give them one, got it?!" Mother snapped. I nodded, pushing back all my feelings. Mother scoffed at me and walked out, Father and Brother following behind. I quickly wiped my tears away and followed them behind. Mom wanted us to have dinner together as they were waiting for me to reach home.
I had successfully avoided Daniel. All I have to do is to wait for everyone to go to bed then run into my room. After clearing the dishes from the table, I washed my hands and walked to the balcony to clear my head a bit. As I opened the door to the balcony, I saw Brother standing against the railing and staring out at the beautiful scenery.
Well, there goes my plan.
I sighed and was about to close the door. " You do not have to go, this is your house after all," Brother spoke, his voice hanging in the air. " I... uh, i...it is f...fine. I will j...just go," I replied to him and took a step back to close the door. " Hannah, get in here!" He demanded, turning sharply to me. I immediately stepped in, not wanting him to scold me.

Over the years he'd made friends with random people he often passed on the streets and did manage to hold down a few random jobs, but like everything else, they came, then went.
