《Loveless Marriage》Chapter 2

As I walked in, I could see that Daniel had shifted to the sofa in the living room. Hearing the sound of me walking in, his head had not tilted up.

" I need to discuss something with you." I started, removing my coat. " Is it very important?" He asked, typing away on his computer.

" Yes, it is because you might not have another time to talk to me other than now." I snapped, removing my shoes.

" Ok, what is it about?" He asked, finally looking up from the laptop screen. " I want to move out," I answered, a feather of hope flying in my heart.

" This is what you wanted to talk about?" He questioned, looking back at his laptop. " Yes. I am going to move out tomorrow. I will bring my clothes along to work—" I barely finished before he started talking once again.

" I am not going to stop you from leaving. Therefore, you do not have to explain to me how you are going to leave. I will call you when either of our parents calls." And with a wave of his hand, he dismissed me not even bothered about my feelings.

" So you are just going to let me leave? You are not even going to try to stop me, at least for the namesake as wife?!" I shouted, standing in front of him.

" I do not see why I have to. You are just my wife. This marriage was just for our parents. There were no mutual feelings to be shared in between us, was there?" He replied calmly.

I took in a deep breath, debating whether to argue with him or not.

Joseph's voice sounded in my head. Blinking back the tears, I walked away from him. I walked back into my room, banging the door shut. I sat on my bed and started sobbing furiously. I threw punches to the bed, crying out loud. A knock sounded on the door.

" GO AWAY!" I shouted, hoping the person would walk away in fear. Instead, a brave Matt walked in, his lips drawn in a thin line.

" If you are here to convince me to stay, it won't work," I informed him, which he replied with a stiff nod.

" I am here to comfort you and help you pack your stuff." He replied in a Scottish accent. That made me crack a smile.

" There is not much to pack anyways. You do know that I do not have many clothes." I replied, picking myself up from the bed. " What about the ball gowns and gala dresses?" He asked, picking a few up.

" A doctor doesn't need those things. And it was given by him after all." I replied, picking my suitcase up. " Aren't you going to say his name?" Matt questioned, picking up some old shirts. I shook my head furiously, silently pledging never to say his name.

It took about 10 minutes to pack everything I had. Zipping my suitcase up, " Can you bring this down and place it near the door?" I asked Matt, hoping he would. " What do you want for dinner?" He asked, slowly rolling the suitcase.

" I'm fine, thank you," I replied before shutting the door on his face. I fell on my bed, hoping that the decision I made would save me.

But why does it feel as if I am killing myself by doing this?

The next morning

Donning my coat once again, I stepped out of my room after 8 hours. Matt was leaning against the wall, staring at the floor.

At the sound of me, he pulled his gaze up and ran it over me. " Are you really sure?" He asked, walking towards me.

" As sure as I will ever be. But I have one more thing to do." I replied, walked to him. He nodded and walked me down the stairs.

I walked to the kitchen and started fixing breakfast. " Is that for you?" Matt asked, crossing his arms. " Would you like breakfast?" I turned to him and saw him gazing at me warily.

" Gladly," He responded, uncrossing his arms. I made him some sandwiches. I kept a few on a ceramic plate and placed it on the counter.

Taking out a post-it, I wrote down some instructions and stuck it to the plate. " So that wasn't for you?" Matt growled.

" Nope, I already ate." I lied effortlessly. I motioned him towards the door and walked behind him. He bit off his sandwich and walked beside me.

" You aren't going to tell him?" He asked, throwing his arm over my shoulders. " That is where we are going, Matt." I steered him to his room and we stood outside, looking at his door.

I took a deep breath before raising my hand to knock the door. I slowly pushed the door open, without his approval.

" I am leaving. I made you breakfast. Make sure to eat it. If it is cold, just reheat it. I will get going." I informed, looking at his legs. " Sure." He gave a short response. I sighed and walked out of his room.

" I could have done that for you," Matt whispered while we walked out of the mansion. I shook my head, giving him a silent answer.

Matt placed my suitcase in the back and slid into the car. He drove me to the hospital and stopped the car in the lot.

" Bye Matt. I will see you some other time. It has been nice to know you. I will get going. Bye." I replied curtly, opening the door.

" Is that the best you have got?" He asked, placing his hand on mine. " I am sorry to disappoint, Matt." I turned my head to him.

He pulled me into a long hug before letting me go. " I will miss you very much, Hannah Moore." He whispered.

Shit, my heart.

" I will miss you very much, Matt," I whispered before getting out of the car. I pulled my suitcase and rolled it into the hospital, giving Matt one last wave.

After placing my suitcase in a safe place, I started working.

Placing my stethoscope down, I took in a huge breath. I had been on my feet the whole day. And I saw a familiar figure walk towards me.

" Hey, Joseph." I greeted. His eyes didn't even reach mine. " Look, I am sorry, ok. If it makes you feel better, yes. He didn't even listen to me and I moved out, ok?" I asked him.

Immediately his eyes scanned over me. " Did you eat anything?" His first question alarming me.

" Yeah, I did." I lied, calmly.

" Did you?" He replied, his gaze not faltering. Though mine did. My gaze reached my feet as my brain racked for an answer.

" Come, let's eat." He tugged on my wrist. He pulled me away from the counter and to the elevator.

Shit, my anxiety is kicking in.

" Umm, Joseph? Would you let go of me?" I pleaded silently. Once we stopped in front of the elevator, he let go of my hand.

" You are never going to tell me why you don't let men close to you, are you?" He asked, his eyebrows raising.

I shook my head as the elevator doors opened. We got down to his car when I got reminded of my suitcase.

" Wait, I forgot my suitcase!" I exclaimed. " This one right?" He pointed to the back seat of his car, opening the driver's door. I nodded and climbed onto the passenger seat.

" Where do you want to eat?" He asked, starting the car. " I am not hungry, Joseph," I replied stiffly.

" Sure." He replied before pulling into another parking lot. He got off the car and ran over to my side to open the door.

" Come out." He ordered. I simply complied, not wanting a fight. He closed the door before gesturing me to start walking.

" Are you at least going to order or do I have to do that too?"
