《The Diner Girl》CHAPTER 23: I'M Gonna End This!!

After a few stops in between running for our lives so that I could catch my breath and not pass out, we finally made it to the house.
The moment we walked inside the house, everybody was freaked out and waiting with anticipation in what all was going on.
"What the hell is going on?!" Neko asks.
"Thank god you're okay!" Brie runs up and embraces me in a huge hug.
"I'm fine." I assure her.
"Listen up guys!" Abe begins addressing everyone." Tonight, Turro tried to kill us. I'm not sure in why this Carusso guy had him try to kill us but apparently he plays dirty and is a little bitch who sends his minions to do his bidding. So tonight, I need all of you to stay here and head down to the basement where all the weapons are and get prepared for a fight." He said.
Suddenly the front door swings opened full force and in stumbles Abe and Brie's dad all beaten and bloodied up, especially from the stab wound on his side.
"Dad!" Both Abe and Brie both shout out in unison while running to his side.
"Brie, get some bandages!" Abe orders Brie.
"Son..." His dad struggles through breaths to speak. "It's too late. I need, I need to tell you something." He says before coughing.
"Just relax dad." Abe tells his father.
"I've got the first aid kit!" Brie says as she runs to sit on the other side of their dad as Abe is on the other, helping hold him up.
"Brie..." Their dad says. "Stop sweetie."
"But dad?!..." She cries.
"Listen to me you guys. I want to apologize to you both for all of this. I thought I could fix it."

"What are you talking about dad?" Abe asks through sniffles.
"Carusso and I go way back. He's the one so, that I told you about who had helped me get away from that lifestyle and help me change my identity. But Korah?" He says and I quickly walk over to him.
"Yes?" I ask through sniffles of my own.
"You need to know that your father never killed your brother. It was Turro. When he found out that you both wanted out of that lifestyle, yet were gonna get your father's money when he died, he had to get rid of..." *cough *cough. "Your dad didn't know about that and all this other bullshit murders that have been going on lately. Not until I told him. He wants to protect you." He says and before he has a chance to say anything else, he coughs up some more blood a few more times before he gasps his last couple of breaths and dies right there on the couch.
I covered my mouth to try and not sob so loudly.
Abe and Brie both sat there and held their dad tightly while we all started tearing up.
It took a while before Abe got up and stomped his way towards the backyard. I followed him.
I saw him light up a cigarette right as I stepped outside on the patio.
"You wanna talk about it?" I ask. "Maybe we should go inside. In case..." I started.
"In case what?! That fucker is gonna die." He says and then flicks his cigarette off onto the grass and storms inside.
He had gone to the clubhouse with his guys and all the guns and everything before he told me and Brie to stay here until they returned.

They had taken their dad's body back to the clubhouse and called the funeral home director in town to come by and take care of his body.
Brie had fallen asleep and the few guys Abe had left to watch her and me, were both smoking outside having a smoke. I then took one more look at Brie and quickly grabbed her phone and left a message to her and Abe so that it was the first thing she'd see and then left.
I know I am the reason all of this is happening and I am DONE running in fear. I shouldn't have to and despite what their dad told me about my father but to be honest, if it wasn't for his choice of business, then I wouldn't have to. So I take my phone and dial the number to someone I know I shouldn't but know I have to.
Nobody but me will end this. It is nobody else's problem but mine. So I will deal with it.
"Hello?"
"You win. I'll meet you at the park down the street from where I'm at and we'll discuss a few things. I'll text you the address." I tell him.
"Okay." He says.
"Bye." I say before hanging up the phone and leaving to meet up with him.

8 207The Mischievous Mrs. Maxfield
***The wrong girl is sometimes The Right One.*** Charlotte Samuels thought she'd be stuck waiting tables at Marlow's until all her debts are paid off-in about ten thousand years or so. She definitely didn't expect a marriage proposal from the arrogant Brandon Maxfield who was blackmailed by his father to make her his wife if he didn't want his least favorite cousin to run Maxfield Industries. Charlotte's instinct was to say HELL NO! but she's stumped by a few obstacles: 1.) His old man Martin Maxfield is dear to her heart and has been recently deteriorating in health. 2.) She gets a million dollars if she stays married to Brandon for a year. 3.) She would rather like the opportunity to teach the attractive but awfully rude man a few lessons he didn't think he needed from a 'teenage gold-digger' which was his term of endearment for her on their first date-er, business meeting. So what's a girl got to do, right? Sure, she's young and a little rough around the edges but there's something her would-be husband didn't know about her yet-she's nothing like he ever expected. Thrust into the glitzy world a standard-issue Mrs. Maxfield would fit perfectly and rule with impeccable social grace, Charlotte will either have to force herself into the mold or break free of it, risking what little she has left for everything that she can gain.*** Copyright © 2014 by Nina Tippett.
