Here's a sample chapter from Boys, Shoes, and Soulmate Blues! This is the first chapter.
Hunter Cameron is an eccentric, boy-crazy girl that can be overly dramatic and has a huge love for shoes. When the student government comes up with a Soulmate test for fun, a test that matches you with your potential soulmate at school, Hunter is too afraid to open her results. Instead, she decides that she wants to find her perfect soulmate on her terms and expectations with the help of her best friend, Tyler. After dating different boys to find "the one", she discovers that maybe her perfect guy is more than a few points on her checklist.
•••
My name is Hunter Cameron. Yup, I have two boy names. No, I am not a boy. I am very much a girl and have the lady parts to prove it.
No, I will not show you, so don't even ask.
For one, I'm not that girl. I've never even been kissed before. But, let's not focus on that little detail.
Two, I can't even change my clothes in the locker room for gym class without putting on my gym clothes over my school clothes, and then pulling my school clothes off from underneath my gym clothes.
Yes, I'm a little complicated...
And some may call me dramatic...
And maybe even weird...
But hey, I'm a seventeen year old girl. Isn't that how I should be? I mean, have you seen Clueless?
Cher and I have plenty in common, especially our love of shoes.
Ah, shoes.
My love for shoes trumps chocolate and the old Chad Michael Murray from Cinderella story, and that says a lot.
I don't just love any shoe though. It has to be white. Why do you ask? Well, because I draw on my shoes. It's kind of my thing and what I'm known for around here.
Maybe that's why some say I'm weird.
I've loved drawing growing up, but my mom was tired of our furniture and walls being used as a canvas. One day she bought me a white pair of sneakers thinking that I could take my art everywhere with me.
Well, ladies and gentleman, my mother created a monster—a shoe monster. Since then, I haven't worn any other type of shoe besides the ones I've made into my own personal art. Now I have over 100 pairs of shoes with various designs.
Last homecoming, the theme was A Night to Remember, so I wore a navy dress and drew Vincent Van Gogh's Starry Night on my four-inch, white heels.
You get the idea. I'm a shoe junkie.
But, I'm also a major boy junkie.
Yes, I am one of those girls—a hopeless romantic and boy-crazed. When I'm not talking about shoes, I talk about boys and romantic comedies. I often find myself getting in trouble in class for daydreaming about boys like Gavin Hanson, who happens to sit in front of me in four of my six classes.
Uhh, maybe he doesn't just happen to sit in front of me. I might have made a few deals to get those seats.
It was so, so worth it.
My best friend Tyler doesn't think so though. He thinks I'm crazy and practically rolls his eyes when he sees me staring at the back of Gavin's head in class. Unfortunately for Tyler, he has every class with me, so he has to witness my drooling all day.
Luckily for me, he's my best friend since kindergarten, so I know he still loves me even when he has to put up with my crazy self.
Like now as he watches me stare longingly at the back of Gavin's gorgeous head for the millionth time this year.
"One of these days your eyes will get stuck looking forward," Tyler leaned towards me and whispered.
Que the eye rolling.
I glanced at him and then back at the luscious, black hair that blocks my view of the white board. "See, they still work." My attitude doesn't faze him though.
He smirked. "For now, but what if one of these days he actually turns around? Do you think you will go blind? Or maybe your eyes will pop out in shock when you find out that he actually has a face on that head of his besides hair."
And they say that I'm dramatic.
"Ha. Ha. Ty, you're hilarious. I want front row tickets to your comedy show when you're famous." I winked at him.
"I'm not sure you'd be able to make it. You might be too busy staring at the back of Gavin's head."
Ouch. That was a solid burn, Ty.
"Mr. McKay, Ms. Cameron, do you have anything you want to share with the class?" Mrs. Hallsberry's high-pitched voice echoed throughout the classroom.
It was dead quiet and everyones' eyes were on us, including Gavin's.
Well, Tyler was right about him turning around sooner or later. I had been warned, but I was not warned about his baby blues. I didn't think that this boy could get any more attractive.
"Uh, no. Sorry, Mrs. Hallsberry," I apologized with something between a smile and frown.
Nothing is worse than being put on the spot in front of your crush.
Everyone was still staring. "Are you sure? It must be important if you two are interrupting my lecture."
Nope, that line is worse.
"No, it's not important. Sorry. It won't happen again," Tyler cut in quickly.
Why won't this lady just drop it? If I sink anymore into my seat, I will permanently become part of my chair.
"Good. As I was saying..."
As soon as my teacher turned around, I mouthed, "I hate you."

"Same," he mouthed back.
Oh, the nerve of this boy.
I suppressed another eye roll and turned my attention back towards the Greek God in front of me. I was daydreaming about Gavin taking me to the dance and was rudely interrupted by a piece of paper flying past me right when Gavin was about to kiss me on the dance floor.
Really?! I was just getting to the best part.
I told you I was dramatic.
My eyes snapped to the paper on the floor and then to Tyler, who obviously flicked it. We've probably written over 100 notes in class just this year.
When I go to grab it off of the floor, masculine hands beat me to it and pick it up.
Oh. My. God. This can't be happening. Gavin Hanson picked up out note.
You would think that he would hand it back to the person who sent it flying.
Nope.
That's not what he did. No, Gavin opened the note. He opened mine and Tyler's note.
God knows what's written in it.
I feel like I'm having a heart attack. Can a 16 year old have a heart attack? Does that happen? Because I think that's what's happening in my chest right now.
I can't believe this. It's like my worst nightmare.
Tyler obviously feels the same way because his eyes are as wide as saucers and is looking at me with an "I messed up big time, Hunt" face.
Uh, yeah you did, Ty. You're in so much trouble.
I can't see over Gavin's muscular shoulder, but I know that he is reading it.
"What did you write?!" I whispered, hoping no one will hear me.
Tyler's mouth hung open like he was going to reply, but the bell rang. School is over.
Like my life.
As I stood up and put my bag over my shoulder, Gavin turned towards me for the second time ever. I thought that I could get away and never show my face in this class again.
Unfortunately, life has other plans to torture me.
"Hunter, right?"
He knows my name! Deep breaths, Hunter. Don't freak out.
A few seconds go by, and he is still staring. Tyler elbowed me in my side and gave me a pointed look.
Say something!
"Uh... Yeah, and you're Gavin."
Gavin chuckled lightly, making his cute dimples show. "Yes, I am."
Gosh, Hunter. You are so dumb. Of course he knows who he is. He's himself.
Face-palm.
Gavin continued, "You really caught the wrath of Mrs. Hallsberry today, huh?"
A nervous giggle escaped my lips. "Yeah.." I put my hand awkwardly behind my head. "Ty couldn't wait to discuss something with me."
I shot daggers at my best friend, and all I got in return was a smirk.
Nice, Tyler.
"Maybe we could discuss some things tonight."
What?!
"What?" I sounded a little too shocked by his words. Way to tone that down. I'm horrible with boys.
I looked to Tyler, who also had wide eyes. I guess he's just as surprised that my long time crush noticed me.
Again, Gavin laughed, but it wasn't one of those laughs that people make when they are laughing at you. It's more of an amused laugh, which makes me want to blush until I'm the color of a tomato. "What are your plans later? We could go out?"
Gavin is asking me out. On a date. Oh my God. This is the best day of my life!
Get it together! He's waiting for an answer.
"Oh..uh.." I cleared my throat. "Nothing. I am not doing anything later."
"Great." He flashes he white smile at me. "It's a date."
A date.
"Yeah, it is," I managed to say in a daze.
He started to walk away from us, but turned back. "Oh! We should exchange numbers so we can talk about where and what time, huh?"
I nodded like a weirdo.
"Here, put your number in my phone." Gavin handed me his phone, and I shakily put my contact in and handed it back. "Perfect, see you tonight." He flashed me another smile and left the room.
A date. I'm going on a date with Gavin Hanson!
Before I could process anymore, my phone suddenly rang with a number I didn't recognize.
"Hello?"
A guy's voice replied in the other line. "See you tonight." I could almost see his adorable dimples over the phone.
Like a crazy person, I just stared at my blank screen, in awe of what just happened.
Gavin Hanson has my number, and we are going out tonight. The Gods have finally answered!
I feel like Laney when Zach finally really notices her in She's All That.
Forgive my strange references.
"Hunt?" Tyler rested his hand on my shoulder. I almost forgot he was there.
I turned to him with a shocked expression. It finally hit me. "Gavin Hanson just asked me out!"

So, that's the first chapter! Not paranormal like my other two, so a little different.
