《Protettore.》Chapter 26.

"Leave your keys in the ignition. Whoever finds her first, grab a car and get her out." I instructed my men over the phone as we all made our way to the Russians' location.

"What about Raffaelo? He needs to pay for what he's done." I heard over speaker phone.

"Raffaelo will pay for his sins, and if you see an opening, take it, but not if it's going to keep you from escaping with my girl. Do I make myself clear?" I warned.

"Yes boss." They all chorused.

My Nora was being held in a house in the middle of a forest on the outskirts of town. I had to be thankful the Russian's valued their privacy. We needed the cover of the trees if we were going to pull this off. I wanted my girl out with as few losses as possible. We moved through the night, permanently silencing anyone we came across. The patrol routes Kristofer sent over helped us make quick work of the guards.

Blood poured out of the Russian's mouth as I twisted the knife I plunged into the back of his neck. Knives were messier than guns, but they were necessary for stealth missions. I was still strapped to the teeth just in case things went to shit though. My men were scattered around the land, taking out the guards that were stationed along the property line.

I nodded at Gino and Michael, and we moved forward on the house, taking out anyone who crossed our paths. The side door leading into the kitchen was unlocked just as Kristofer said it would be. It was nearing three in the morning, so the house was quiet and dimly lit.

Gino peeked around the corner and held up one finger, indicating there was only one man in the next room. Michael crouched through the doorway and I heard the distinctive sound of a body hitting the carpeted floor. We stepped through the door into the living room and Michael was shoving the dead body behind the loveseat with both of his legs bent at an odd angle.

"He was too tall. I had to break his legs." Michael shrugged when I raised my eyebrows at him.

We cleared each room, only encountering a few men here and there. They probably focused most of their security outside thinking we'd never make it this far. Idiots. We were moving down a hallway when I heard a shuffling noise to my left. I spun on my heels and had the stranger pinned up against the wall with my hand over their mouth.

I recognized the blonde hair and loosened my hold on him. "Kristofer." I acknowledged.

"Hey boss." He nodded, rubbing his neck where I pinned him.

"We cleared the first floor. How many men are upstairs?" Gino asked the blonde man.

"Just Varlam and Raffaelo as far as I know. They're in the study planning for your attack." He grinned.

"Well, they're a little late for that." Michael muttered.

"What's our move from here?" the question was directed at me. Most, if not all, of the Russians on the perimeter should have been taken care of by now, and my men moving in towards the house.

"Kristofer, go upstairs and tell them something was wrong. Say no one was answering when you checked in on how the patrols were going or something. They'll most likely go check it out and we can sneak out with Nora." I explained.

"'Sneak out'?" Michael said incredulously. "We need to take care of this problem now. We're not going to have another opportunity like this."

"I thought I was very clear when I said getting Nora out was the main priority. If you can't take a simple instruction, then you can leave right now." I growled, getting in his face. "Now do you know what needs to be done?"

Michael didn't say anything but nodded, glaring at me with angry eyes.

"I'm going to call your phone, keep it in your back pocket so I can hear everything through my earpiece. I need to be kept in the loop." I instructed my spy who nodded in understanding, answering the call that came through to his phone.

We hid downstairs in the shadows while Kristofer ran up to put our plan in motion.

"I need to leave with my pet as soon as possible. He's not going to give us the time to get everything in order before he attacks us. I want to be gone by the time he gets here." I hissed at Raffaelo.

"You can't just up and leave. You talk like Lorenzo is going to be this huge problem. He's going to be the tiniest hiccup in our plans. I was one of his most trusted men. I know how he thinks. Everything he does is calculated. We have time. He won't come bursting in without a plan." The Italian argued, haughtily.

His idiotic confidence and over inflated ego were going to ruin everything. He didn't understand the kind of emotions Nora elicited in men. Anyone around her became obsessed with her, with her smell, with those little whimpers of pain she makes during playtime. She was utterly delectable. She was lucky I rescued her from those brutes. I've more than proved to her how much I loved her. She was mine and I wasn't going to let his hot-headed moron ruin things for me. He needed to get taken down a peg or two.

I was about to tell him as much when the sound of urgent knocking filled the room. I gripped the gun located under my desk as a knee jerk reaction.

"Enter."

"Sir." Kristofer entered looking frantic and I could feel my palms sweating. "I've tried contacting multiple men to check in on the patrols, but no one is answering."

My stomach dropped. They were here to take her from me.

"It's not Lorenzo." Raffaelo declared as if he knew all.

"Shut the fuck up!" I screamed standing from my chair so abruptly it crashed into the wall behind me. I knew my eyes were wide manic, but I didn't give a fuck. "I should have just taken off. I knew this would happen."

"I told you-" Raff began, and I couldn't stop myself from exploding at him.

"This is your fault! You brought her here, unplanned. We weren't ready for this problem! You've fucked this all up!" I was acting deranged, but I didn't care. I shoved him out of his chair and pulled him up by his collar.

Our faces were so close, we were nearly touching noses. "Now," my voice was low and the room eerily quiet after my outburst, "go outside with Kristofer and find out why the fuck no one is answering when we check in. Do you think you can do that? Is that something you're capable of or is it too much for you boy?" the more belittled him, the redder his face got.

Try me bitch. Make my day. I'd love nothing more than to take you out.

"What are you going to do?" he snarled back at me, yanking his shirt out of my fist.

"I'm getting my pet out of here." I declared.
