《Beyond The Walls | ✔》Prologue

I ran a hand through my disheveled hair as I closed my eyes and rested my head on the headrest of the seat of the bus.

Today went pretty well. I visited Noah after almost a year and suffice to say that I was glad to see him and William happy with their lives.

That douche had finally fallen in love and as far as I knew, no one could be more better for him and William than Emily was. The way she fit in with them and the way Noah's eyes lit up every time that idiot heard her name was all that had always been missing in their lives for as long as I remembered. Even William seemed happy seeing his son and Emily together. After all that he went through and the way he dealt with it, I never thought I'd ever see him genuinely smile again.

They celebrated Emily's 18th birthday today and as Emily didn't know me one bit so I was just like a monkey in the middle. But I was glad that even though she seemed like a shy and introverted person from what I had gathered from Noah's non stop rant, she tried not to show her discomfort at my dirty jokes and made me feel as much welcome as she could.

The bus came to a halt as new passengers started climbing in and I cringed at the thought of having to share my seat with someone.

Socialising wasn't really my thing.

People started taking their places on the vacant seats and I silently prayed that no one would come my way and ask me to scoot over.

Almost everyone got seated and I heaved a sigh of relief when nobody bothered asking me to share my seat with them.

As I was about to close my eyes again, I heard a clanging sound and I rolled my eyes and lifted my head up to see the cause of that sound.

"Hold up hold up dude," I heard a faint voice of a girl saying and then there she was, climbing up the bus with one hand holding a bag bigger than her small self.

She gave a small smile to the driver and then turned towards the passengers, her eyes roaming the entire bus for an empty seat.

Her gaze landed on the one and only empty seat in the bus beside me and she smiled as she made her way towards me, at the end of the bus.

I didn't have an idea why but I really was kind of willing to share my seat with this girl. She seemed interesting enough to spend the rest of the ride with.

She was wearing a mauve sweatshirt with a black ripped jeans that fit her slender legs perfectly. Her wavy dark brown cascaded down her shoulders making her look even more prettier.

Wait what?

I did not compliment girls what the hell was wrong with me?

While on her way towards my seat, she hit her foot on the side of a seat in front of me and almost landed on the floor flat on her face.

"Woah easy there, princess," I said without thinking and she rolled her eyes and picked her bag up from the floor.

"Hey mister, I'd really appreciate if you'd scoot over a bit," the girl said to me and I rolled my eyes to make her believe that how much her existence on planet earth bothered me.

I took the window seat as she set her bag down and took the seat I was previously sitting on. The sweet scent of jasmine reached my nostrils and I tried not to get affected by it.

What was this girl doing to me?

She settled down and looked my way, straight into my eyes. Her eyes were a mix shade of hazel and light brown that looked even more prettier from up close.

Her face was emotionless and so was mine. She kept looking at me, as if curious to know the answers to the questions that were haunting her for decades. And then again, she smiled, a genuine smile, and I swear I felt my heart stop beating in that precise moment.

And for weeks after that she kept crossing my thoughts. At the end of the day, while laying in my bed, I would eventually think about her flawless smile and the sweet smell of jasmine was still there with me.

Days, weeks and months passed and a time came when I could no longer remember her smile or her eyes and then eventually, I forgot about her.
