《The Billionaire's Wedding Planner ✔》CHAPTER TWENTY FOUR

I closed my car door and looked at the car that was parked on the other side of the visitor's parking lot at Aiden's apartment complex.

It was a black town car.

It looked immensely familiar.

Then again, there were so many black town cars in the city that they were all probably going to look familiar.

Aiden's building housed many rich and important people and all rich and important people seemed to own at least one black town car.

I stared at it for a while before shaking my head and walking into the building.

I was about to turn my head and not to the man at the reception, when the elevator doors opened, taking my attention.

Nothing could have prepared me for the person who walked out.

Caroline Baxter.

She stepped out, dragging a suitcase with her, fishing around in her handbag angrily.

Her gaze was diverted by her handbag and a cold sweat broke over my forehead.

Alarm bells went off in my head.

Before I could think of anything else to do, I dashed over and ducked behind the reception so that she couldn't see me.

I poked my head around to look at Caroline.

She was muttering, angrily to herself as she pulled her phone out of her handbag. She pressed two buttons and pressed the phone to her ear.

As she walked out, I heard her shrilly bark into her phone, "Mother!"

My eyes watched the sliding doors that had closed behind her and I exhaled, relieved to not have been seen by her.

I turned my head to see the man at the reception looking down at me with a funny look on his face.

I smiled at him, sheepishly. "I borrowed her handbag once; she still hasn't forgiven me," I said, giving him the first explanation I could think of as to why I had hidden from Caroline.

The guy at the reception nodded, but he looked even more confused.

I would have laughed if I hadn't been so stressed out.

Trudging into the elevator, I pressed the button for Aiden's floor and slumped against the cool metal of it.

Heaving a sigh, I wondered why Caroline had even been here.

We hadn't heard from her for weeks and she suddenly shows up out of the blue?

Aiden must have said something to her, judging by how angry she was.

My brow was till furrowed as I knocked on Aiden's door.

The door flew open a few moments later.

Aiden was also frowning.

The moment his eyes found me, however, his anger seemed to dissipate.

"Rosalie," he breathed, pulling me into his apartment by my arm and into his embrace.

He breathed in deeply, probably inhaling my hair.

"Did you just smell my hair?" I asked.

He laughed, still hugging me. "You do smell fabulous, Rosa."

He pulled away from me and closed the door.

I looked at him. "So..."

Aiden raised his eyebrows, expectantly.

"I saw Caroline," I said.

Aiden looked mildly interested. "Did you trip her up?"

I made a face at him. "Why was she here?"

"Oh, probably to evoke my wrath," Aiden said, almost viciously, "Rosalie, I'm so glad you're here. You just made my whole day better."

He pulled me into his arms and kissed the top of my head.

"Aiden, what happened?" I asked him, my voice coming out muffled.

He stepped back and took my hand. "Come on," he led me towards the living room, "You need to be seated for this."

I put my handbag on the coffee table and sat down. Aiden sat down next to me and pulled me into his arms.

"You remember how I told you that my Dad was making me marry Caroline?" he asked.

I nodded.

"Well, today I found out exactly why."

"Why?" I asked.

He sighed. "Because Caroline's mother blackmailed him."

I felt my eyes widen. "What?"

Aiden nodded. "She had found this small error that his company made during a deal with Caroline's Dad's company and had mentioned it to him like it was nothing and then a few months ago, she had kept hinting that Caroline and I would make a nice couple." Aiden made a face. "And had finally told him that if Caroline and I got married, she wouldn't tell anyone."

"I can't believe it."

Aiden sighed. "Well, believe it, Rosa. Business is war."

"What could she possibly get out of you marrying her daughter?" I asked.

Aiden nodded, knowingly. "That's what I'm trying to find out as we speak."

I sighed. "How was your Dad okay with that?"

Aiden shook his head. "He's always been hell-bent on making sure his business stays afloat. He wasn't a bad Dad, but his company was always very important to him. I think his judgement is intensely clouded, especially since he's planning on retiring soon."

I took his hand in mine. "That doesn't mean you have to sacrifice your happiness, Aiden."

He smiled at me and slowly, tucked my hair behind my ear. He watched my eyes and slowly lowered his mouth to mine and kissed me, softly. He held my face in his hands and told me, "Rosalie, I don't know what had gotten into me before, to let my father dictate my life like that. Yes, he's my father and I love my family very much, but it still doesn't give him the right to do what he did. Meeting you, Rosalie, realizing who you are, you've cleared my mind. I'm not going to let him control me anymore. I'm not going to let him take my happiness, I'm not going to let him take you away from me."

I covered his hands with mine and smiled. "You're too cheesy," I said, giggling.

Aiden smiled at me. "You are the sunshine in my life, Rosalie."

I sighed. "Why was Caroline so mad when she left?"

Aiden nodded to the counter. "She found your necklace and told me that I was cheating on her. I told her to get out of my house."

"Did you tell her that it's mine?" I asked, worried.

"No, that's not her business," Aiden frowned, "Why?"

"I don't think I want her to know," I frowned back.

Aiden smiled. "I want the whole world to know, Rosalie. I want to tell the world that you're mine."

I laid my hands on his chest. "Aiden, I don't want to tell anyone right now. It's too soon."

"I told my Dad that Caroline and I broke up," he said.

I raised my eyebrows. "Did you tell him about us?"

He shook his head. "Why?"

I sighed, relieved. "Aiden, I'm a wedding planner. If people hear that I'm involved with one of my clients, I can probably expect my business to flop."

Aiden chuckled once and nodded. "Of course, I understand. We will keep this under wraps for now."

"Thank you," I sighed, "I love what I do, Aiden. I don't want this to interfere in that."

He nodded. "I understand that. I know you love what you do. I love watching you do it. Do you know how much your eyes sparkle seeing people happy on their wedding day? You should see how you smile when you feel like you've helped make someone's day."

"And I want to keep doing that," I told him.

Aiden intertwined his pinky finger with mine and shook it, like we were making a promise. "You will. But I promise you, Rosalie, one day I will tell the whole world."

I smiled back at him and kissed him. "One day, I'll let you."
