《Fate》Fourty Eight: Personal Problem

I hold Austin onto my bare chest and look down at him. His small lips curl up into a smile, making me wonder what he's dreaming about. A stray tear escapes one of my eyes as I rub his back. He's so perfect. I never thought I could love anyone more than I love Drummer, but I was wrong. Looking up, I remember that Drummer is next to me. I completely forgot he was here when the nurse gave me my son.

"He's so perfect." Drummer says as he kisses Austin's head and fixes his hat.

"Yes, he is. We did a damn good job making him."

"Yeah, we did. It was mostly me though." He laughs and I roll my eyes, a big smile on my face.

The two of us remain silent, just enjoying our bonding moment with our greatest creation.

"Milani, I got a call back about Ariyah and ......" Drummer trails as I cut him off.

"Don't ruin this moment."

Drummer nods his head and doesn't say anything else about it. Moments later, a nurse comes into the room telling us that we have visitors.

"Give me a few minutes to get dressed and fix myself up a bit please."

"Will do, Ms. Ross."

Drummer takes Austin from me and lays him down in his bed so he can sleep peacefully then gives me a wet rag. I use it to wash my face then let Drummer tie my gown strings behind my back. He also helps me with my hair because my vagina still hurts too bad to do too much moving so I can't get out of bed to do it myself. I'm trying to take it as easy as possible.

"Can you tell her I'm finished getting ready?" I ask as I pull the covers over my lower half.

Nodding his head, Drummer heads out of the door and returns with my mama and grandma behind him. The both of them come over to hug me with big smiles on their faces.

"How was labor?" Mama asks me.

"Excuse my French, but it was fucking horrendous! I don't plan on having anymore kids! I guess I'll be the one and done mom."

"Awww you're just saying that now. As soon as Austin grows up, you'll miss having someone to hold then you'll have another baby. Trust me honey, I know. That's why I ended up with 6 kids." Grandma laughs before asking if she can hold Austin.

"Of course, grandma."

My mama and grandma take turns holding Austin and cooing at how adorable he is. They spend about an hour here helping us before asking for a key to our house. Apparently, they're going straighten up and prepare for our return with Austin. I'm thankful they were so happy about him that they weren't mad about me not telling them that I was pregnant.

As soon as our guests are gone, my lactation consultant comes into the room to help me try to breastfeed Austin. The first time didn't go so well so I ended up having to pump as much milk as I could into a bottle because he wouldn't latch on.

"Ms. Ross, remember that belly to belly is one of the best positions to hold your baby. That way the both of you can be comfortable. Don't allow him to hang from your breasts. It'll make your nipples more sore than they already are.... good, you're doing well. Now make sure his mouth is open wide so he can latch on better." The LC instructs me.

Following the instructions, I watch as Austin begins to latch onto my left breast and starts to suck softly. My eyes light up with joy because this didn't happen the first time. When I tried to breastfeed him earlier, he just let my nipple sit in his mouth.

"I'm doing it!! I'm breastfeeding him!!" I say as tears roll down my cheeks.

Drummer's eyes water as he watches us. He walks over to the bed and gently gets in with us so I scoot over a bit to make room. His large finger rubs against Austin's small face as he whispers encouraging words to the both of us.

"You're doing amazing, baby and so are you, daddy's best friend." He says to us.

The LC smiles as she jots down notes on her clipboard. "Congratulations, Ms. Ross. You're officially a breastfeeding mama. Once he finishes up eating, please write down the time on the notepad I gave you and I'll come back later to pick up that information. I'll leave you to feeding and please notify a nurse if you need me." She says before leaving the room.

I continue to feed Austin until he falls asleep then let Drummer lay him down while I write down the time he finished eating. After breast feeding, I'm starving and low on energy so I call for a nurse to bring me food from the cafeteria which ends up being honey garlic salmon on a bed of spinach, tomato basil pasta, fruit salad with oats, a slice of dark chocolate cake, and water.

"How's the food?" Drummer asks as he eats a totally different meal than I have. His isn't healthy at all. Plus, my meal consists of nutrient dense breastfeeding foods to help with milk production.

"Mmmm so good! We need to find the chef and take him/her home with us because damn! They must have Gordon Ramsay in there."

Laughing softly, Drummer bites his double bacon cheeseburger. "Shh you're gonna wake Austin and if Ramsay was in there, we would've already heard him yelling and making the staff cry."

Once we're finished eating, Drummer rolls our food cart into the hallway then changes Austin's diaper. My eyes flutter as I try to stay awake to help with the baby.

"Lani, get some rest, baby. I got him. I know you're exhausted." Drummer says as he walks over and kisses my lips then uses the remote to let my bed back.

"I love you." I say as I let my eyes close. Right before I'm asleep, I hear him say it back which was all I needed to rest.

Four hours later, I am awaken by the sounds of two deep voices laughing and talking. Opening my eyes, I see Drummer's dad holding Austin and talking to him about how he's going to be a star when he grows up and telling him how good of a dad he has.

"You're finally awake. Girl, you've been snoring like a grizzly bear." Deandre laughs and I do the same.

"Hey hey hey, that snoring came from being so tired after delivering and breastfeeding your grandson."

"Well I'll let you slide this time. How are you feeling?"

Yawning, I cover my mouth and wipe my eyes. "I'm okay. Still tired."

Deandre uses one hand to push his wheel and the other to hold Austin, giving him to me. " I figured you'd be tired so I just wanted to stop by before it got too late. I'm gonna get going. Hazel is waiting on me outside. I got y'all that car seat over there after Drummer told me y'all needed one. I hope you like it."

"Thank you, Mr. Jacobs. I really appreciate it."

"Call me Dre and no problem. See ya son. Take care of them." He tells Drummer as they leave the room. Drummer is gone for a bit so I'm sure the two of them are making up.

"Everything okay between y'all?" I ask when he comes back into the room.

"Yeah, it's all good. We apologized and agreed to mend our relationship, no matter how hard it gets."

Nodding my head, I play with Austin and baby talk him, making him laugh. His sweet little laugh warms my heart. Looking over to Drummer, I notice that he's on his phone, but is barely keeping his eyes open. I'm sure he's just as tired as I am.

"Babe, give me that phone and go to sleep! I've got Austin. You let me rest earlier so now it's your turn to do the same." I say as I hold my hand out to accept the phone.

Drummer walks over to me and lays it in my hand then kisses me softly. He deepens the kiss by plunging his tongue into my mouth then makes his way down to my neck, biting and sucking on it.

"Alright now, that's why he have him in the first place." I tell him, pushing him off me.

"You know you lied to your folks right?" He says into my ear.

"What are you talking about, Drummer?"

He smiles before crossing his arms and getting comfortable on the couch. "You know damn well Ima shoot the club up and give you bout 10 more babies."

My eyes widen and my mouth drops open as I start laughing hardly until I feel my stitches hurting me. Sometimes I forget that Austin tore me a little until it's too late.

"Shit." I hiss, making Drummer raise up, looking concerned. "You okay, Milani?"

"I'm fine. I laughed too hard and made myself hurt, but trust me, I'm okay so get your rest. If I need to get up from bed, I'll call a nurse."

Drummer nods his head before quickly falling asleep. I continue to play with Austin until he's hungry and breastfeed him again, smiling when he latches on so easily. I make sure to write down when he starts and stops eating.

As soon as he falls asleep, I slowly get myself out of the bed and wince in pain. I know I said I would call a nurse, but I hate depending on everybody. Making it over to Austin's bed, I change his diaper and lay him down; covering him up then kissing his forehead.

"I love you, my sweet baby boy." I whisper and he smiles in his sleep.

Holding back my tears, I walk to the bathroom and finally use the toilet on my own. It hurts like hell, but at least, I did it by myself. Once I'm finished and cleaned up, I make my way back to the bed so I can get some rest.

When my eyes close, relief sweeps over me until

I feel buzzing on my leg. Looking down I see an unknown number on Drummer's phone so I glance over to him and see that he looks so peaceful. Deciding not to wake him, I answer the phone and finish up the conversation.

After talking with Penelope, I'm no longer sleepy and all I can think about is her saying she needed Drummer to come to court in the morning to testify against Brandon. Hours pass and I'm still wide awake so I flip on the tv, watching American Dad. As two episodes pass and a third one starts, Drummer starts to stir awake.

"How'd you sleep?" I ask him.

"Damn good. Would've been better with you next to me though." He smiles, but I keep a straight face. "What's wrong, love?"

"Penelope called your phone when you were asleep. She said you have to come to court in the morning to testify. I told her I just gave birth yesterday and to let you stay here with us at least until we make it home. She said that sounded like a personal problem and that if you didn't come, prison would be your new home."

Tears fill my eyes as I finish talking and Drummer is in bed with me within minutes with his arms wrapped around me. He kisses all over my face and rubs my back until I stop crying.

"Milani, everything is gonna be okay. I gotta do what I gotta do. I'm gone head home now and give her a call about the details for court. While I'm gone, don't worry about me. Keep being an amazing mom to our son and I'll update you on how it goes. You have to get some rest or you'll be no good to care for Austin." He says as I lay on his chest. "Promise me, you won't worry too much and that you'll rest."

Nodding my head, I promise and tell him how much I love him. He does the same before heading for the door.

"Drummer, do whatever you gotta do to stay in his life. He needs you more than I do." I say, pointing at our son.

"I got both of y'all, baby. You know that. I'll call you in the morning."

"Okay, be careful."

As soon as Drummer walks out of the door, I start boohooing, releasing all of my emotions which wakes Austin up.

So much for getting some rest.
