《Last Chance✔ (Completed)》Chapter Twenty-Five

Elena's POV
"Noah please talk to me. I'm sorry."
I speed up significantly to try and keep up with his long strides.
"Noah," I try once more desperately.
Finally, after the fourth call he halts his determined steps and slams the clipboard he was holding onto the reception counter with a loud bang.
He turns around abruptly. "What Elena? What is it that you could possibly say to me right now?" He barks. I'm taken aback by his sudden outburst, but try to recover quickly.
"I just want to explain things. That's all." I give him my most desperate look.
"And why should I allow you to do that?"
"We've been friends for awhile now Noah and I don't want to lose this friendship. I'm willing to fight for it. You haven't talked to me in weeks and now I just need you to give me the time to explain some things, so it can all make sense," I reason.
He pinches the bridge of his nose and clenches his jaw. I can see him on the brink of giving in.
"I promise you that I'll tell you everything. I hate that you're hurting because of me. If you just allow me five minutes. That's all I need," I practically beg.
He looks at me blankly for a few moments. His tensed shoulders and scrunched eyebrows relaxing slightly.
"Five minutes," he replies monotone.
My face breaks out into a huge smile and I take his hand to lead him into an unoccupied room and close the door behind us.
We stand there awkwardly. The light and joyous air that used to surround us is now replaced with tension and apprehension, definitely a feeling I'm not used to feeling around Noah.
He starts to tap his foot impatiently on the tiled floor, his already short temper flaring up once again. I better say something before he changes his mind and leaves the room.
"Pierson and I are mates," I blurt.

The tapping ceases at once and Noah's face pales and his eyes grow wide at my confession.
He stands still before he runs both hands through his hair and starts to pace around the room reminding me of a shark ready to strike its prey.
"Wha..Wha...What?" Comes his stuttering reply a few moments later.
"Pierson and I..."
"I know what you said Elena," he interrupts.
I close my mouth and wait patiently for him to say something more. He now runs his hands over his face and then places them on both sides of his hips before staring up at the ceiling blankly.
I fiddle with my fingers nervously. What is he thinking?
"With the alpha. When did you find out?" He finally says.
"When I turned eighteen. He was the one that didn't want me as I told you on our date. I thought he loved Rachel," I confess.
His eyes shoot towards me and I can see the hurt still swirling around in them.
"How come you didn't just tell me it was him. Do you not realize how big of an idiot I feel like right now?"
I look to the ground like a child who has been accused of grabbing a cookie from the cookie jar when they weren't supposed to.
"I didn't tell any one about Pierson because I was embarrassed. He rejected me for crying out loud," I stress throwing my hands up in the air.
I turn around not wanting to see the probable pity or anger on his face.
He lays his hand on my shoulder and gently turns me back toward him.
I don't look him in the eyes, but instead focus on my black shoes. He grabs my chin and tilts it up. I'm surprised to see his now calm demeanor.
"I get it," is all he says.
His statement surprises me.
"You do?" I whisper.
"Yes I do. I told you my sister went through the same thing. I get what it must of felt like. I know that bond never goes away until you've mated with another," he expresses.

My heart twists at his understanding words.
Why can't I feel something more for this kind-hearted man? He deserves so much.
"I know. It was just so hard to fight him," I say.
"When I got back and found out him and Rachel never mated I felt..." I pause not knowing how to describe the feeling.
"Relieved," he offers.
I nod my head.
Noah gives me a sad smile. "So what happened between the two of you? What changed?"
I take a deep breath in before explaining the complicated matter to him. When done I take a seat on the counter and he takes the place next to me.
"So, I never really had a shot did I," he says into the quiet air.
I snap my eyes to him. "I liked you Noah. I do like you and you're a great guy."
"But I'm just not the guy. For you, that is," he finishes.
When he says those words it's like something inside me awakens and I realize that maybe I just liked the idea of Noah.
Somebody who gave me the time of day and someone who I knew would never hurt me. We have the same interests and are so much alike, but that's not enough. I can't pretend to like him more than a friend. It wouldn't be doing any of us any good.
I look at him sadly and shake my head.
"I really am sorry Noah. It was never my intention to lead you on. I've just been confused and I didn't want to address the growing feelings I was gaining for Pierson," I state.
"Now I know where I stand and I hate that it took me hurting someone like you to get there." I place my hand on his forearm and squeeze it reassuringly.
"I completely understand if you hate me still and never want to talk to me. I just had to explain why you saw what you saw," I say blushing at the awkward situation that had occurred.
One side of his lips rise in a small smile. "I don't hate you Elena. It just kinda sucks how the situation panned out, but I do think our friendship can be repaired...eventually. But right now I just need some time to take care of myself," he sighs.
"I understand and I'll give you you're space."
He gives me a grateful smile and hops of the counter. He offers me his hand to help me down as well.
I turn towards him once again. "Thank you."
He looks at me confused.
"For understanding that is," I eleaborate. "You're a good man and you deserve the best. Somebody will be lucky to have you one day."
He looks down sadly. "Thank you Elena. I hope she's half as good as you are," he says before exiting the room.
